Sensitive topic... but about the store prices and game content.

I have spent £25 on the store for the alphabetical bobbleheads and 3 sets of paints. I really want to obtain more, but I consider with the pending purchase of Horizons that this could become extortionate, although entirely optional, I appreciate.

Bottom line... With this being a paid for game, will FD ever consider allocating some of the content as ingame unlockables?

Special chrome paints being £9.99 each fair enough, but some of the single skins could be unlockables, say for example you kill 100 ships in a Cobra, then you unlock a skin.

Ideas?

FD need to make money somehow. They decided right from the beginning to offer cosmetic items only. I would much rather they did that than have a subscription or (god forbid) sell pay to win items.

No.

It's too late to offer existing skins as unlockables, as many have already bought them. Doing so would be a PR disaster, especially for content that is widely accepted and even supported as being a premium add-on.

I don't see this business practice changing.

Well they are making money from the game sales too.

Forget current skins and content then, but surely some content could be created as a reward for meeting ingame criteria based achievements? Kill 1000 pirates, you unlock a ☠ and crossbones skin with a hole in it's skull with "Piracy does not pay". Lol.

I think it'd be nice not to have to pay an extreme amount of cash for content that arguably should be available in some forms within the game, too. It's not an entirely unreasonable request and adds to the appeal of the game for those who cannot afford to be buying the content they desire.

It's also not entirely unreasonable for FD to insist on cosmetics being a premium service. And they're the ones who get to decide what's what.

Trust me, it won't change. It's a well proven & successful business move on PC. It's added a lot to FD's coffers. Why would they decide to lose this income?

Fact is they charge because people like me are willing to buy. That's just how life is.

Ah well, it seems I've been entirely misunderstood if my suggestion for ingame unlockable skins results in a unanimous NO vote or talk about subscription or pay to win services. Totally unrelated.

Before the Internet you paid for a game and that was it. You had ALL the content. What's with the suggestion for some content to be available as unlockables being challenged when you'd think gamers would welcome it?!

Times have changed. Business changes over time. Games are more expensive to produce now, and developers need extra income, especially as a game doesn't cease development after release. That's what Horizons represents, after all.

It's not about whether or not we want it, I doubt anyone would complain about a few new free skins. Even so it will always come down to money and free dosen't tend to make any. --Momentai :3

This.

I'm not against the notion, understand. I'm just being realistic.

What has that got to do with me saying that FD should implement some skins into the game as exclusive unlockables too?

Once I've paid for Horizons, assuming it's £30 again, that will mean I've spent £85 on Elite for the Xbox if I include the 3 skin packs and bobbleheads. I'm one man. The point I'm arguing is that the company should offer some nice exclusive content within the game too, which could be unlocked through achievements. It's not exactly a criminal suggestion.

CG's for example could be good opportunity to unlock an exclusive skin or something, if it's a particularly important lore based CG.

I'm a nice pony, so I'm going to retire from this thread before I say something that I'll regret.

I honesty believe for the money. Elite Dangerous is a bargain compared to other AAA titles. If you look at games like The Division, Destiny, Call of Duty , Fallout, and Battlefield. The season passes and the extra content is a lot more expensive than what we pay for 1 season and a paint job. I'm ok with the current model for the cosmetic content.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, and personally I'd love to see ingame unlockables. However it's not likely to happen, I mean why release something for free when you could make a profit off it instead? I'm no business man, but even I know that much.

We're in an age where consumers have deep pockets and are stupid (I count myself among the second), so what reason does Frontier have to give us something for free? Now I will never complain about being given free stuff, but my experiences in life have lead me to expect a price for everything. --Momentai :3

Freedom of speech. Just spit it out. I'll spit out my dummy too, since I only suggested some ingame content to reward players as opposed to content being exclusively purchase only.

I'm willing as shown by the 25 quid spend on content to pay for content that I want. I do desire much more, but cannot justify paying out for it all right now - which I said I appreciate is optional.

Nothing wrong with a few ingame unlockables too. But anyway, this has gone way off track.

Let me put it this way.

You're beating a dead horse.

This topic has been brought up countless times even before Xbox release on the PC market. And it comes to the same conclusion every time.

The conclusion is where is Blueford Orbital. We all worked hard to build it and I ain't seeing no Station in the black sky! Gahhhhhhh!
