CQC The many reasons why CQC isn't liked/ used/ played

First, let me say I LOVE LOVE LOVE the main game. Always been great, and with constant upgrading it will continue to be awesome (I hope :) fingers crossed!

I actually HATE CQC compared to the combat in the real game. I miss having sub targets, or shields that last longer than 3 seconds when an eagle is firing at me, or a hull that can stand up to a sneeze...
The scoring is horrible. You have players that refuse to engage an enemy until their teammate does, then they go in for the steal. These are the guys with zero deaths, zero assists, and all the kills. They are ASS HATS. THE CORRECTION FOR THIS IS SIMPLE. Kill points should go by percentage of damage dealt by participants, and the player who dealt the most damage gets the kill points, all other get assist points. There, no more ass hats. Only reason I play CQC is I'm an explorer :(I just find it very frustrating when they have this "combat specific" portion of the game, and it isn't even a pale comparison to the actual game. Examples. Go ahead and use your "next target" or "previous target" buttons. Or maybe you would like the "select highest threat" to work while thy ass is getting lit up. Go ahead and try any of those buttons, in the combat-specific portion of this game... I'll wait...

These issues may be directly linked to the fact that it is very difficult (at times) to get a match going. I'll sit in a lobby by myself for a half hour before I start to see people. I assume it's because nobody likes CQC, but I need to get my fix of space combat. When I finally do get a room, it will have 1-3 "top" guys, and I'll have to fend them off my kills, because that's all those guys know how to do...Steal. (Again, fix the kill scoring!) Typical scenario: player 1 lights up target 1, but right before the final shots, player 2 who has been sitting back, will now move in for the kill. Everything player 1 has done, is limited down to assist points, and player 2 has the kill points for no work, no threat, no nothing. This makes the Dark Side grow within me...

For the love of all that is Holy, please fix this ignorance!!! I'm tired of loosing all my kills because some A-hole purposefully steals the kills via a "kick to the pinky toe". If you didn't know about this, then you don't play your own game (kinda don't blame you there). The fix for this horrible, non-sportsmanship style of play is VERY SIMPLE, and listed above.

Then there's the fact that other players do not play this game because of everything I've just listed above. I absolutely LOVE the full game, but CQC is loosely thrown together crap, and I'd rather refer to it as something other than "Paper airplanes in space", as I do from time to time on my Twitch streams. Oh yes, that's right. I articulate all of this to the viewers, because it wouldn't be fair to them if I didn't tell them all the things that don't work or make sense, or when what they just saw doesn't make sense.

Chaff in CQC. Yeah, you're allowed one per hour. (yes, finally sarcasm) Nothing like a 5 minute reload on your chaff, IN THE COMBAT-SPECIFIC PORTION OF THE COMBAT SPACE SIM...

I can't wait for Engineers! (and no, I will most certainly NOT pay an extra $9.99, just for BETA access; I can wait 3 weeks. Who thought THAT was gonna work? :/

Wow the ignorance is strong with this one. There is so much wrong in this that I am not even going to take the time to correct it all. If you hate CQC so much don't play it. simple.

Yeah, I want to find a constructive way to give you some encouragement, and point you in a direction that may help you find a way to enjoy all that CQC has to offer, but truthfully it sounds like CQC may just not be your thing.

Scooby,

I'm pretty sure that I played a bit of Team Deathmatch with you over this past weekend. I probably "stole" some of your kills. Getting that kill on my scorecard is in unintended consequence.

There are times I notice a teammate dueling it out one on one.... but that person may not have noticed that opponent(s) are headed his/her direction from across the arena. I'm trying to boost over to that person and help them finish off the kill before the other opponents get there to gang up on them.

Oh, by the way.... the two pilots who posted above me, Dutchy & Curtiss... are among the best out there. Good luck with them... they kick my butt all the time. *shakes fist them* :)

Well it's $2.50, since there are 4 betas.

It's a few dollars to mess around with it ahead of the release date, and report bugs if you're that way inclined. Lots of people were asking for it so Frontier put it up, no-one says you have to buy it. No need to get on your high-horse and start moaning about it either.

Here I was looking for a nice list of things Fdev should think about fixing, but instead I find a neon green rant from someone who has probably played less than an hour of cqc. Since this is one big opinion I'll just address two of your complaints.

First, there is no kill stealing in Team Deathmatch. You are working to help your team win, not for personal glory. Get over it.

Second, chaff only takes 30 seconds to reload(if you have power in sys), it's not that hard to stay alive that long, and I've actually run out of chaff a couple of times.

Maybe you should stick to open play.

You won't have any of your only problem in regular Deathmatch, and what do you call the guy angry at teammates for helping take down enemies? at seems to have already been taken...

The technics I learned in CQC helped me immensely with my main game combat techniques. I no longer fear anything lesser than a Python in single ship combat while I am in my Cobra MK3 or MK4, in open, vs NPC or PC. Verses wings I have to play smarter, strategize smarter, chose a weak link in the wing and finish it off quickly then move to the next weak link, peel the wing like an onion but I digress.

Try regular Deathmatch, matches are usually made within 2 to 3 minutes, chaff never an issue. There are heat sinks and silent runners. Rarely I will match in five minutes. The objective I tell myself is to die less than anyone else, but sometimes I just have to say, what the hell, you only live twice, or four. I think one match I died five or six times. Didn't cost me a thing ship credit wise. Long term, I got a permit to access every ship and modification at a nice discount. Hope to see you in there sometime.

Don't forget Artysu, I finally got him once over the weekend. Hot Rod Lincoln was playing on the radio at the time, made for a great match theme.

So much green ... .( bites tongue, mulls using chain locker language), A-hat indeed, a lampshade is better
:p

Artysu gives me nightmares he/she is so good. I admit I've backed out of a deathmatch because Artysu is in it & I don't feel like getting slaughtered. Other times I feel more courageous and give it a try... only to be humiliated. :-(

CQC is quite good enviroment where you can learn about mechanics and it doesn't cost anything... I know that Arena is boring after some matches but players are improving each time and there is everytime "new" enemy. Unfortunatelly i play CQC only sometimes for keeping myself in condition because i have enough of CQC and my CQC rank is done. I don't need be in top of killers and CQC/Arena is kind of rest from main game and stressfull beta 2.1

Key to beating Artysu is denying him the weapons powerup. If you manage to do that he becomes a lot less intimidating

True, and same can be said about many other top pilots. Still, I've observed Artysu, AlikCZ, and you too... and I simply cannot maneuver my ship nearly as well ya'll can. I'm guessing the finer control of a separate throttle/joystick setup is almost a necessity to be a top pilot. (I'm using a gamepad with a touchy right bumper button, AKA my throttle).

At least one of the "top pilots" mentioned in this thread is a vanilla KB+mouse pilot without VR or headtracking. So it's definitely possible to be the best without any special equipment.

Yes, but doing that requires so much discipline and focus on NEVER letting that weapons power up spawn without you being there to contest it, because you better believe that Artysu will be there waiting when it reappears. I really respect his power up control game, frustrating as it can be to contest. The guy is laser focused (no pun intended) on always having that WEP power up, but yes, that is also his one obvious weakness. If you can manage to consistently deny him the weapon's power up, he becomes much less effective.

Depends on your location and the time of day. Also subject to network conditions, your port forwarding config, and any matchmaking bugs hiding in the dark corners of the game client. :)

I'm not a great pilot, but I've prestiged once and have a 2:1 kd ratio. Having a good stick and throttle makes a 'huge' difference. I have a T16000M and VKB gametrix throttle about €100 worth of equipment, the T16000M with its hall sensors is a marvelous stick for aiming I cannot recommend it enough. Voice attack is also really useful for switching between engines and weapons in CQC, I find it invaluable(its also great for the main game). As for Artysu that guy destroys me with those beams of death every time I bump into him lol, only player I remember coming across that seemed completely unkillable(apart from obvious hull/shield hackers).

As for why CQC isn't used, I just wish it offered more rewards(not necessarily credits but maybe crafting items etc for the main game), the fun of PVP is enough for me but its not enough for everybody. Also a league or cup, would be a good way to make it more interesting IMO(just my 2 cents). As for the OP kill-stealing is part of the game and everyone can do it so I would recommend getting over it!

CQC is a fail.
They should give us some real pvp in main game but no they gave us a second game so coled CQC. Why they dident invest time and money from cqc in proper instances and some real pvp in elite dangerous ?

You should write Frontier a very strongly worded e-mail about this. Here is a link to their support page: https://support.frontier.co.uk/login.php?page=contact

Remember to include pictures for emphasis, preferably of your tears and of your great gnashing of teeth.
