Your Best VR Experiences in ED?

For me, there is one small detail that still blows me away:

When light hits the windows just right, you can see frost around the frames. When I tilt my head back and focus on it, with the rest of the scene kind of out of focus, it looks completely real. Try it sometime.

SRV. There is a slight sheen on the front canopy near the top. The switches look like you can reach up and flip them. Just a general sense of "being there".

Me and a buddy riding around in SRVs. My buddies SRV goes over a cliff and he falls into a deep, deep ravine and somehow survives. Seeing this happen I then park and step out of my SRV and walk (in my room) to the cliff edge to investigate what happened... After a few minutes of staring down into the black abyss my friend then slowly emerges in his Clipper and then at low speed he performs a low pass (just a little higher than the SRV) over me while I'm still stood next to my SRV. The scale was incredible, the martian ground reflected from parts of the clippers hull as it passed mere inches over my head - it was incredible, the whole series of events were just jaw dropping.

so many but recently it was sat on a planet in my SRV, I sent my ship off into orbit and as i looked up I realised one of the suns, which was quite close, was almost in eclipse with another planet so i could just see edge lighting.... the look was amazing, and seeing my ship taking off in the same shot was the icing on the cake.

Just something special isn't it.

VR and Elite are perfect for each other in every way.

Leaving your ship in the SRV and watching it launch and return is mind blowing still for me.

Some examples:

It's always beautiful to explore a new planet with a different landscape.

Getting into my Orca, hover just some metres above the ground and start "driving"

After long time not playing, getting into a eagle and fly full speed with a boost out of a station... "whooohaaa, I'm the king of the world"... ;-) ...it feels so good, I feel really unchained from reality then!

I was at a nav beacon scanning ships when I heard something to my right. Right as a turned my head, a ship skimmed me partially eclipsing the star behind it. It was both startling and beautiful. I had to just sit there and say wow.

Oculus are shipping MUCH faster then the schedule however. Currently up to 2-3 weeks early.

Are you sure you don't mean Vive? They seem to be catching up to the point that orders from just mere days ago get shipped. My expected June Vive is arriving this evening actually.

For me it is the little things like:
looking at the handles on the side of my DBS or
taking a few steps back and away from my seat when I come out of SC and looking outside the windows when the AutoDock kicks in or
manoeuvring around the outposts watching the various ports rise or fall from me or
looking up at my ship when I am in my SRV and seeing how impressive they look or
skimming the surface of the planets as fast as I can or...

So many moments.. lost in tears .. etc etc ;)

The first really memorable one was on the DK2, in my T6 in SC flying to some station behind a ringed giant. I stood up (luckily not losing tracking) and suddenly I was standing inside a spaceship, flying at multiple times the speed of light toward a massive planet with slightly glowing white rings. It only lasted a second, but it was glorious.

Very first time playing Elite (ever, I waited till my Rift arrived). Press the launch button, get spun around, look up realizing there's a GIANT station up there, and sit in awe as my ship is pushed up over the lip, gasping at how cool it is to peer out my windows into this huge, busy space port.

Next, after fiddling with my HOTAS to learn what all the buttons did, I reached for the in game side stick. Except my stick is center mounted... I grabbed air. After a moment of pure confusion, it registered, and I reached to the middle and smacked my palm into my trusty stick. PRESENCE ACHIEVED. My brain was in the game.

At first I thought the cockpit was a bit drab and plain (spoiled by flight/car sims). After the first time I saw the hardpoints pop some guns up in my view, I realized, "Hey, I'm in VR, I can stand!" Stood up, saw little doors open as I reached down for the hardpoints button on my throttle, and 3D guns came out of my ship. Boggled. Realized, I can see the whole fuselage from in here. Took in the lines of my ship, moved the stick to see the little blue thrusters fire. Sat back down, looked all over the cockpit, and smiled, more presence. I was in a space fighter.

Next one, also inside a space dock. Decide to get up out of my chair after a night of combat. Look out the windows at all the interesting things in the station. Explore the cockpit of my new Viper. Walk to the back door. Walk back to the pilot's seat, reach out, and my Obutto simpit is EXACLY where it is in game. The ingame chair back was just a few inches higher than my RL one. But knowing exactly where I was, being able to grasp my real chair as I leaned to see out the side/rear window at a cargo ship taking off... stunning.

I was fully immersed against a conda with my vulture, and as I took serious hits. I began taking heat damage....for a couple seconds my brain tricked itself into thinking I could smell the smoke coming from my ship! The smoke was right there, around me and I thought it was real. It was a grinner to feel that immersed.

Also, what everyone else has told. It truly is a unique and engrossing experience (hotas and voice attack help even more....now if we could do something about chat/keyboard)

Last one, when you move throttle up and in your peripheral vision see the avatar hand move with you. It's a nice brain trickster.

Very last one, I promise, flying through planetary rings. Especially, with a very fast ship. Just loooooove it!

Old Elite Beta 2 (before launch of game): first time using the rift, fisrt time exiting an outpost, in Azeban system, huge planet in front of me with a sun rise, i took the rift off and wiped my tears of joy. Since i can't imagine playing Elite without VR....

I just had a really simple moment. Finally bought some open back headphones and the combination with the Vive was... wow. Just piloting out of a coriolis starport felt like magic. When I finished my run, I spent five minutes just sitting in my ship (I mean my chair) watching and listening as new ships came and went on the pads around me. Hell of an experience this is...

Sitting in my Eagle in a crater just outside Farseer Inc Engineer's base. Another commander takes off from the base and spots me on the ground below him in the crater. The next thing I hear and see is the roar of engines and him approaching at speed from my right as he does a low level pass over my ship and accelerates up. I can still feel the hairs on the back of my neck a day later!!! Truly awesome.
