Star(Citizen) Wars:
Year IV
The Publishers strike back
It is a dark time for CIG. Their teams struggle with basic functionality within the engine continue, as rival Indie developers have pushed ahead with projects like Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, and Rogue Systems. Facing ever improving competition and falling funding levels, Roberts has made a desperate ploy - move focus from the MMO sandbox Star Citizen which would compete with those titles, to building a triple A Space Opera 'Squadron 42' - a space sim/fps game which fills a niche which is largely empty.
It may come to backfire though as after years of being the butt of CIGs jokes, the dreaded publishers have finally started to make their move. Activision released a trailer for 'Call of Duty - Infinite Warfare' which is set for full release in November this year. As well as showcasing CoD's well established FPS gameplay it pushes into space flight mechanics, zero G FPS, making it a serious contender in the same field as Squadron 42. EA has yet to show much of 'Mass Effect: Andromeda' which is rumoured to be set for a 2017 release - even unseen it's most likely superior graphical, storytelling, and acting will make it a formidable rival. Lurking unseen is Bethesda's mysterious 'Starfield', as well as any projects of others such as Ubisoft. With time against them, the CIG developers desperately refactor code...
+1 this is beautiful!
