Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous - Beta 6 update

I wonder whether Magicbean is playing on something under-spec such that one of the 2.1 optimisations hits a really slow code path? For older cards, some DX/OpenGL features are implemented in software on the driver.

That's why I suggested he raise it as a bug attaching his DxDiag (or perhaps even a ticket might be better as it could be something related to his machine). He's playing in 1024x768 which is a common laptop resolution so perhaps something to do with his laptop (i.e. internal graphics etc.).
 
Just tried to upgrade my new Corvette in 2.1 beta. Out of 96 total fish I was able to get a total of 3 "Effects" for my class 3 pulse laser.


  • 1x Wing Healing.
  • 1x Emission. No silent running NPC's.
  • 1x Malfunction.


It's fun because and easy now because of fishes, I can only imagine what it will be like when you need to farm resources for an effect.
Wheel of fortune really need to be pipeful ! Or unlucky guy's like me will look like zoombie searching after materials !

Just tried to upgrade my new Anaconda in 2.1 beta. Out of 96 total fish I was able to get a total of 3 "Effects" for my class 3 pulse laser.


  • 1x Wing Healing, I am a solo player and this is of no use to me.
  • 1x Emission(?) ammo. No silent running NPC's. (Actual Question: Dose this ammo make weapons tracking more accurate / better lock?)
  • 1x Malfunction causing ammo, I forget the name but I kept it.

You realise that in the current beta you can buy more fish at the engineer base so you are not limited to what you can carry in one trip? (obviously this won't be the case when the update goes live).

That may be the case, but look at the results - 96 attempts and 3 results he wanted. That's a 1 in 32 success rate. That's poor.

Was he doing something wrong or is there perhaps a bug / working as intended ?

I haven't tried to know (overseas training this week - holiday :D)

If there is a trike to turn the fortune wheel, am interest to know it !

Well the patch notes said that they'd adjusted the frequency of success to the level that will go live so it's not looking good.

I'm afraid, having had a play with it just paying fishes, I don't think I'll be bothering with it too much when it's live. I'll just go on playing the way I did before.

The grind of gathering loads of different resources and then only having an RNG chance of getting an upgrade you like as well as the extreme infrequency of success in the specials sweepstake is way more than I can be bothered with.

People have compared it to the gambling in Diablo 3 and I'd concur with that. I only used that three times and on each occasion I got a result that was completely useless to me so I didn't do it again. This is likely to be the same I'm afraid.

In the release, you will be able to ask an engineer for a special effect at the cost of reputation, if i recall the info in Frontiers live stream right.

It took Blizzard several iterations of their loot / crafting system for it to become fun - patch 2.4.1 is now at a good stage for that game IMO. The main thing there is that you have more control over the loot you end up with. Certianly the majority of the stats are subject ot RNG & there's a lot of junk, but the junk can be converted to mats and used to refine the existing gear you have.

I expect FD to follow suite eventually which is why I am not too concerned.
 
Beta 6 - Am seeing missing landing pad "stadium" light assets at Engineers bases. The six points of white light are present, but no structure.

As long as the loot is not aimed at us! We are not supposed to be the centre of this game, but part of a bigger world. That means the drops for crafting should be independent of what we are after and what we are flying. I would, however, like to see a way to recycle "junk drops" into something useful or something sellable.

It seems maybe beta 6 was the last beta version. Although I guess they will continue to balance the update after its released. Or we get beta 7 today, and get to test it until tomorrow. Well, anyhow the fixing of bugs and balancing will continue a couple of weeks more after it goes live tomorrow. All get to test and play. Its good :)
