oh dear.. Felicity wants me to shoot Barnacles

Well the Farseer really only deals with FSD and Engines, which understandably some combat pilots want to get a hold of quick.

Engines are so important to combat one might consider them the first upgrade to do on any combat loadout.

so much complaining about the grind, turns out instead of bambling it is more about hide and seek. I like it! stop complaining and start searching!

Sounds like taking awhile to update won't be a problem. Hope all the info for the missing/moved relics and bugged-or-not-bugged Meta Alloys is sorted out in a month or so.

Overall it doesn't sound like it's anything to be missing... nothing more than ye olde rep grind in Star Trek Online, albeit with with a different, simpler but better balanced space combat system.

...and no lockboxes.

For now.

This thread is hilarious.
Yes!

min/max madness at work it seems. :D

Me? Gonna play the game and see what develops. I visited the Dweller and made my donation and collected a blueprint. Right now I'm close to Todd. Gonna make my introduction to him as well. I have plenty of bounty vouchers that I have not claimed. Get a blueprint from him and see where it takes me.

I foresee fun before the winter storm. :D

I certainly hope the engineer that is combat focused doesn't require me to shoot anything.
BWHAHAHA! Yes that is exactly what I see going on too. +1.

The truth that a disappointment.

I lost time looking for that      for 3 hours and does not appear on any side.

Find something in an entire galaxy to make something simple is frustrating, as always frontier does not value their players.

I will not play more Elite until it fixed, I expect this update for months and also the game is still boring, like the power play and all within elite and dangerous.

Thanks for the update, the truth that I realized that I will not buy another season.

It really disappoints me, I can only wait for No Man's Sky.

You seem to think this a whole new game because of a update.... A update just adds to the existing game... AND by making it harder it becomes something that actually takes time.

I my thinking that making a game where you HAVE to get out there and find stuff rather than just give it to you is what MAKES this a good game... playability for the long haul

Are you a roleplayer?

Do you want to make money? Trade slaves! Are you against slave trading? Too bad!

Do you want engineer mods but RP not shooting barnacles because you feel like you're committing genocide? Too bad!

Do you want to compete vs other pilots and even NPCs but dont want to do their dirty work? Too bad!

Do you want to blaze your own trail and not follow the story fdev want you to? Too bad!

Wait - I dont instantly get everything handed to me??!!

Bug! /ragequit! how could they / I have limited time to play / my kid is in tears / the wife will divorce me if I dont find barnacles for her / the dog just ate my sandwich due to this bug / my hamster died, I blame frontier / Where is my super drive! I want to go ludicrous speed!/ Where is the I WIN button on the new UI? / OMG Frontier have gone pay to win! / Its all because its been released on Xbox - everything, including the Brexit referendum...

Clearly you didn't get any of this. It is nice to live in your own universe, I suppose.

This seems to be another example of people who program not talking to each other.

So one department is working on bringing the barnacle story further along. They remove the meta alloys and destroy some of the barnacles.

So the other department, that already was not doing the engineer part right thought what to do besides bringing fish. Oh yes there was that meta alloy that requires to fly 400ly so lets use this ... well if someone just asked around the office ....

Are you two on the DDF?

In that case you both know what's going on, and we don't. Maybe it would be better to cut down on the knowing winks, because that got old the minute I saw it :/

Regards.

Can we at least just get some confirmation re: the un-harvestable Barnacles, are they:

a) bugged
b) simply farmed out all the time because everyone's after Meta Alloys (has anyone managed to harvest any Meta Alloys from Barnacles since 2.1 went live)
c) deliberately not yielding due to some aspect of the storyline that will become apparent in due course

It's just that I want to know whether to:

a) file a bug report
b) keep trying
c) wait

If anyone's in the know (nudge nudge wink wink secret handshake etc) - could they just respond with the appropriate letter of the alphabet (encode it in morse if you like).

Considering there's producers which are responsible about finished product, I ever doubt it was mistake. It is intentional.

Some play this game as a game and not a second job.

Meta alloys and soontill relics were next to useless in 2.0. Barely anyone but Canonn will know of them.

Why not make these things that are nothing to do with exploration or thruster upgrades critical to unlocking engineers..... Yes, on top of that, now that they mean something let's move them somewhere else and not give any clues where to find them.

Pecisk says it's all clear and understandable. You just need to blindly look around for days or read through forums. I find those defending what FD has done here laughable.

What an epic game design fail to make the task of simply accessing an engineer require some of the rarest items in the game, of which they've decided to hide from us as of 2.1 release.

To be fair, that engineer is explorer-themed. Best go out and start exploring!

The problem with this method is that it could be a bug. So you could potentially spend a very long time chasing something that isn't there. Which unless you are an avid explorer, isn't very compelling. I think if FD intended for players to explore in order to find these things, then they should signpost it better. A GalNet article explaining that Barnacles are showing signs of depletion and a hint as to where to start looking, or even have the Engineer mention it might be more useful.

As it stands, having wasted several hours on missions that couldn't be completed in 2.0, I'm not exactly inspired to go on a wild goose chase. The track record for updates isn't good enough to implement new missions in this manner.

I'm a little surprised that this wasn't better signposted, considering DB's recent article on the subject. I may have to give this part of the update a miss until we get more info, preferably from FD through in-game means rather than Google over the next few weeks.

They never said they will signpost everything. And considering silence from FD support and acknowledgement that it is a bug, it is intentional. So start looking - or wait for someone to share.

This. Hunting for the stuff. Searching for it. That's a fine idea when you can be sure that it's not simply broken; which we cannot.

It's not a bug - barnacles can have an empty state now.

Michael

Care to elaborate please? Empty as in permanently exhausted? Empty as in "over-fished"? And what to do when all of them are empty?
