I agree.
The intact ones are not giving meta-alloys... (I believe)
Any chance of putting this stuff at some other stations?
I'm close to 400 LY from Maia!
We know the unknown probes are not regular UAs. I think no one has found one yet. Where can they be?
- Convoys? Planets in the Shell?
Hello 2.1! I started out just over 200LY from the Cave nebula, ready to check for signs of a UA shell. After being distracted by a rocky/ice landable I checked not just the Cave but the following nebulae, at the given ranges from the star nearest the centre of each:
Cave Nebula (165-100LY)
Pelican Nebula (165-135LY) [by implication also a partial check of the adjacent North America Nebula but not the same range]
California Nebula (155-0LY)
I did not encounter any UAs around any of these, although I encountered emissions degraded signal sources (threat 0) in between the Cave and the Pelican Nebulae and a couple in quick succession ~120LY from the California Nebula. In these I found either illegal salvage (large/small data survey caches) or materials (including a private data beacon that gives a data micro-resource when scanned, e.g. Specialised Legacy Firmware).

I can confirm that Meta-Alloys are now available at Darnielle's Progress and have donated one to Felicity Farseer. Some idea of what she can do and her requirements (this is not complete, also only what was available for my AspE, just whetting your appetite to go and look!):

En route to one of the other Engineers I passed through Taurus Dark Region ZE-Q b5-1, about 136LY from Merope, and encountered a UA quickly (Anomaly Detected [threat 4]). I've never been able to make out the Morse by ear and don't use recording software, as I'm worried about memory issues, but it seems like the same old UA in appearance and was still pointing at Merope and scanned me at 1km. I left it alone and went on my way.

Note that almost everything seems to use new materials found in signal sources. As a result of my signal source diving today, it turned out I was able to upgrade the shield booster on my AspE: it turns out you only appear to need to make three upgrades to reach rank 2 with her. Some low/intermediate ranks require mining commodities (thus you have to go mining in the ship you want to upgrade!).
Thrusters: rank 3, uses tin at ranks 2+3, several materials found in *SS, one material found from basic scanning certain ship types, one new commodity
FSD: rank 5, uses polonium at rank 5 (ranks 3 and 4 need Yttrium instead), materials found in *SS or from using a wake scanner, one new commodity
Power Plant: rank 1
Shield Boosters: rank 1
FSD Interdictor: rank 1 (never used an FSDI, nevertheless I checked what other modules she can do, but not the blueprints)

I just came back to the game and find out that my ship has been teleported almost 700 Ly away from my last position in Barnard's loop nebula !

Very strange indeed. Is the system you were in last now permit locked?
Sadly I can't be sure because I did not wrote down the system name I was in just before logging out.
With luck I might find it again by exploring the Galaxy map, but no guaranty, sorry.
I am tempted to go back to Barnard's loop or to search for meta alloy in order to try and start upgrading my exploration vessel...

the first thing i noticed is that now the barnacle has the spikes all broken.
and you can scan it (in order to get some rewards i presume).
anyway, the wierd strange sounds i usually heard on my cockpit seems gone now.
no more glitchy sounds at all for me.

Sorry if it's been covered before, but have UAs become a common resource since 2.1 ? I was on my way to Maia, I decide to scan the first USS I come across ( Anomaly Threat 4) and bingo... Unknown Artifact. I don't even know what to do with it
...and now an ETA on if/when barnacles will come back into action again? Simply pressing J a few dozen times and then turning up to a station and pressing BUY is hardly inspiring
Frankly, nothing to do with barnacles, Meta-Alloys or the like is inspiring. It's all built around cheap static tourist attractions and gradually controlled information releases that have more in common with an ARG than actual gameplay that has ended up consuming far too much dev time and detracted from any progress into pushing actual exploration forward in the game.
But as was mentioned by a Frontier dev on the forums the market addition is just a quick hack solution as Barnacles should be dropping Meta-Alloys but aren't. All they changed with Barnacles (in relation to meta-alloys) is that there's a chance they can be empty now to stop farming of just a handful of locations and you can tell if they should drop Meta-Alloys or not by if they're 'Blooming'.

Did one of the barnacles on JU-C B3-2 1 always have 2 central structures? I can only scan one as it says it's already been scanned if I try and scan the other.

As Barnacles are bugged and are dropping random resources instead of Meta-Alloys they temporarily added Meta-Alloys to the market in Darnielle's progress as a stop-gap until the bug is fixed.
Old news.
Check out this thread for the Frontier posts some 12 hours ago about how Barnacles should be behaving in 2.1 and then later on confirming the bug and temporary measures to source Meta-Alloys, page 3 onwards.

It may be of interest to note the difference in the amounts received for scanning the different barnacles, maybe the most interesting thing is the fact that the 3 lowest amounts are for the ones that are still producing materials. I wonder if we're getting more, because there's more to study on the ones that have been used up.
