I really hope that FD don't panders to the lowest common denominator, the game needed this, and has become a 100% better because of this.
The world need more challenges, not fewer. Everyone want instant satisfaction, if you can't shuffle a meal into your head in 5 sec. it "socks".

If you need to read a manual OMG, this SOCKS! It's the same in the DayZ community, the game has been doomed since 2012, however the devs there just explained the players.
Listen, this is how its suppose to be, you don't like it, you bought the wrong game.

WoW did one big mistake, they surrendered to all the whining, and that made the game worse, not better.

Ditto. I'm loving this game now 1,000,000 times and I hope FD won't downgrade the current AI. The more pressing matter now are the bugs affecting the missions and other stuffs.

Elite Dangerous should have been a game that changed the world. It should be right up there with World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Tetris and Angry Birds. David and team are masters of procedural generation. Their track record clearly demonstrates their success in the gaming business. Where did Elite Dangerous go wrong. Simply put; too much focus was placed on PVP and space flight combat. Very soon, the folly of this narrow focus will be evident when Hello Games releases “No Man’s Sky”. Where Elite Dangerous has a lock on being an Eve clone with space combat that challenges high skilled pilots along with pretty planet rendering; No Man’s Sky will have playability within easy reach of most every computer and console game player. I wish Frontier Development could have seen the forest, but unfortunately all they could see were trees. I don’t see ED failing because the game fills a niche. There are also way to many PVP space fighter jocks who must find an outlet for demonstrating their prowess dominating other players. Bask in the glory that goes along with forcing the developers to adjust the AI difficulty beyond ludicrous levels for your own pleasure. You also need to quit complaining about not seeing other players in Open. All I can say is you got the game you wanted. Please understand that average players are not qualified to fly in F-16 fighter jets. We are going to play the games we can and enjoy playing. ED is your game now, make the best of it but please understand that it could have been so much better.

There has always been this inbuilt conflict between 'hardcore' players, and people who want to see Elite as a great entertainment. I can see both sides.

But essentially computer games *are* entertainment, and a PC is not a real F-16. So common sense would come down on the side that it should above all be fun and playable.

I probably sound like someone saying patisseries should sell nice cakes - hey, I know that's crazy - but..

We were *promised* by FD that 2.1 would be the end to these widespread bugs. 3 missions completed today - two were bugged and impossible to complete.

No it wasn`t a crass decision, its called game developement. Do you work for nothing?, do you want the game to remain static for the next number of years because some people want to play the same game as everyone else while not paying for it. What utter horse****** to come out with.

Please stop trolling - development means developing something, the AIs didn't "develop" mods they came into existence instantly on launch. Did you not read what I said - "read my typing" - AI ARE NOW MUCH IMPROVED

It is crass to expose people who have paid good money for the game to vastly improved AI weapons when they can't counter it by modifications - 1.6 players are being shown the finger by F D over this.

Voted other.

The difficulty of the AI is something that one fixed scale / difficulty tiers will never be able to solve to the satisfaction of everyone.
There will always be people who find it too hard, and there will always be people who find it too easy.

Ideally, it needs to move away from static difficulties and become more dynamic based on how the player is doing during their particular session.
If they are in a combat zone easily blasting away ships left right and centre then the difficulty should scale up *for them*. If they are getting their ship debris regularly handed to them, then it needs to scale down *for them* until an enjoyable equilibrium is reached between the player and the AI for difficulty. Its no fun whatsoever to be massacred, and its no fun to be bored stiff grinding/farming away kills.

Failing that, there needs to be a way for those pilots who arent able to keep up with the AI any more to be brought down a few levels until they can cope with them again. Ergo - the combat ranking needs to degrade over time spent ingame or for deaths.

Those of you vehemently opposed to making the game better for those such pilots - remember you can always go and face human players if you want more of a challenge. Those pilots who are struggling with the difficulty level right now - less so.
"you better get good at it", "learn better" etc type comments aren't helpful at all to them.

do you for one second believe that when we get our "spacelegs" and can board ships, sneak on board and hijack other players ship, it will be easier? Hiding in SOLO will not be a safe haven. There you will just have to fight NPCS, on you ship. Unless FD make them 100% brain dead you will face many situations where you will potentially be able to lose your ship.

NMS is not in any way or form a threat to ED, as it will attract players who like the level of difficulty and complexity in ED.

Wow... what a lot to read!
The answer to the poll (in my eyes) is yes to all. Could it be changed to please everyone? Perhaps...

"It's too easy!"

Moving forward, high ranks could use adaptive logic. This just means the harder you fought, the harder the AI could fight. Would hopefully mean a good challenge for skilled players.

"It's just right."

Perhaps, but I could take it down a notch and throw in more tactics to create a more enjoyable and less predictable experience.

"It's too hard!"

Adaptive logic could dynamically downgrade AI performance to give players a chance. E.g. player is fleeing... Pirate AI could downgrade its weapon accuracy and boosting ability, giving the player a good chance to escape.

Well, just some of my own personal thoughts. :)

Sorry, I am not trolling, you are the one calling people crass, if you cant take criticism then cut back on the insults.

Sarah... 1st off you gave many what they asked for and I guess the adage rings true about being careful what you wish for;)

Good work!.

Lore wise dangerous and above ships are not that common and yet CZs and often res are often loaded with them... perhaps this could be used in the tweaking?

Thanks

By all means spend your time before a major release with your head in the sand, but don't be surprised when you get bit in the ass, and don't go crying after the event.
but you didnt quote the part about those with macs or on 1.6 who have no access to mods did you? people will draw their own conclusions from my whole post.

Degrading combat rating is a really nice idea actually, make it stack a higher multiplier for multiple deaths with out a kill like
1 death without kill = -2% drop in rating
2 = 4% drop in rating
3 = 16% drop in rating
4+ = 32% drop in rating

Add in a condition that it is valid for NPC ships only so PVP does not lose you rank.

This way your ranking only tanks if you are killed multiple times without getting a kill yourself, once you get a kill you reset.

Curious about this! if a pilot is showing off with FA-OFF doing lateral boosts.. the AI thinks.. lol, 'ere we go.. [cranks difficuly up to ludicrus] :)

Pilot is just turning around with no pip management, AI thinks: aww, have some charity !

Sounds pretty good :)

It's important to find what the root cause of people finding the NPCs too difficult is, i.e. is it:

a). Actually the AI itself being too good
b). The weaponry the NPCs using being too good
c). Players not adjusting their play-style to the new patch
d). Players having not yet upgraded their ships to match the enhanced NPC ships

Could be a combination of all of the above, of course, but if, for instance, it's more to do with the new weapons, then that might indicate what to [potentially] hit with the nerf bat...
