I think the poll needs to be closed. Why? Because the longer it stays open the more likely it will be biased towards those who complain ED is now too hard. Why? Because people tend to flock to forums to voice dissatisfaction vs bestowing praise. It's why all gaming forums are overwhelmingly negative post-launch. So, to avoid sampling bias, I suggest the poll be closed. If it's not, we'll simply see more votes towards "too hard" and risk ED taking inappropriate action. The current poll size is more than big enough to draw meaningful conclusions, and already suffering from sampling bias.

if you mean the "inapproriate action" is to Nerf the AI - then I say keep the poll on. Lets see where this goes. Clearly the BETA representative group didn't do justice to the game - Combat is no longer fun. I spent 15 minutes going Round and Round trying to get a Hauler in my sights - with a lot of PIP management and FAOFF in my 'Conda - that is NOT fun gameplay. Its just fun to the extraordinary hardcore who have all the time in the world to pull off stunts like that. Not for casual gamers who are becoming paupers while the rest of the commanders proponent for tougher AI are sitting on Billions or hundreds of millions during the "easy" phase!
There are a large # of people who don't like Dark Souls. Their voice has to be heard!

just got blown away in a python that took forever to purchase. If you have to spend so much time trying to upgrade your ship in order to play the game, then its time to move on to something different. Plus I truly think the engineers patch is ridiculous. Guys, its not even fun anymore, of course this is just my opinion. I want to play a game that's fun not a game that gets me frustrated. By frustrated I mean getting blown away in a python in like 6 or 7 sec by a clean NPC eagle for no reason, an eagle that can take down your shields in one or two hits. Anyways that's my take on it. Plus no adventure. I want to be able to disable ships and instead of blowing them away I would like to see if I could steal it from a player stuff like that. Plus that would save credits instead of having to buy another ship. Just an example guys...

AI is just too hard for the average Pilot now. I'm flying a Vulture which is meant to be the most agile combat ship, yet I couldn't believe it when an AI Sidey was out manoeuvring me. I don't claim to be a good pilot, however I did by the game to be fun and now its very much not fun. 6 million down in 4 hours is not fun. Before I could safely manoeuvre behind ships and now I just can't get behind any thing nor can I shake off any enemy that targets me. If I run I lose power and then sit in space waiting to go boom (around 10 secs). I think AI is a tad too difficult now and is making an awesome game less appealing. Don't want to do 1 years worth of mission grinding to be able to afford a ship.

This is a bad argument.

You're basically saying "I want to remove peoples ability to influence this because I don't agree with their viewpoint".

I also take an alternate view on the sampling bias point.

Forum users are more likely to be "hardcore" players with the ability to deal well with these changes, making a forum poll naturally biased.

To be honest, and other people have said it, paid beta is a bad idea

The npc's are way to hard. I trade in a Cutter and I seem to only get interdicted buy Fur de lance's and Anaconda's. they almost kill me every time and I barley get away every time. I've played around six hours and been interdicted almost every run which is 3 jumps 1 way. If I was pulled out of warp twice and attacked going the 3 jumps 1 way I would be dead for sure. My insurance is 20 mil a death. I played every night till this engineer patch came. This engineers patch makes me not want to play anymore. So im done playing till these npc's are fixed. Almost forgot my trade run I don't get as much credits anymore. Big patch Big fail for the way I like to play.

If that were the case the poll results would have been biased towards the "hardcore" players to begin with. Complainers > any other group of people on a forum, so leave a poll open long enough and it'll go "negative". That's simply the Internet and mathematical inevitability at work. Got nothing to do with my opinion.

I too trade in a Cutter - mostly D rated. I'm also Dangerous rated and also get interdicted by FDLs and Anacondas exclusively - all rated Dangerous or above. I've escaped every single interdiction and never lost shields. All you have to do is fit a 6A shield and all A rated shield boosters as utilities. As soon as you're interdicted submit. Then put 4 pips into SYS and 2 into ENG and boost away. Once FSD comes online high wake out. If you're in your destination system you can low wake out (nothing can mass lock you) but will be interdicted a couple of more times until you reach your final port. You'll never lose a Cutter if you do this. It's not the NPCs my friend - in this case, it's you, I'm afraid. But I can guarantee that you can "beat" them this way. That's the good news.

One could also argue that with the forum hardcore player selection bias, the fact that is statistically meaningfully leaning towards too hard is very telling...and different. Typically, the git gud crowd dominate these types of polls, so it looks like even some of them have switched sides...

Greetings Dragule!

Since you have three or less posts, some posts (or threads) that you create may be sent to the moderation post-queue. The forums anti-spam filter will think you are attempting to spam if you input too many url's or common spam phrases.

Additionally, since you are new to our community, you're restricted from some forum features. This includes the partial restriction from editing your user profile. It is unfortunate that we have to do this... and we know that this is a harsh inconvenience. Otherwise spammers, and automated spam bots would wreck havoc on the forums - public and private.

Feel free to make a topic in the Introductions forum, introducing yourself to us. Alternatively, you're welcome to post to the community thread to introduce yourself! If you'd like, jump right into the conversations by selecting a forum on the list! O wait heres my 3rd post am I considered a real player now ???????????

The game is much like the original - now: Dangerous. I'm not a brilliant pilot either, but I've practiced a lot. PIP management is key - high rated NPCs fly with 4 PIPS to Engines for maneuverability, use FA off and use boost to turn quickly. Practicing this will make you better and the game much more rewarding. Ditch the Vulture and practice in a Sidewinder or Eagle, if you aren't already. The problem with the pre-2.1 NPCs is that they didn't require any real skill from us humans.

I would be disappointed if FD nerf AI back because of mass complaining of more "entitled" part of the community. ED is a game with high learning curve and we like it because of that. For once in a while NPC combat is not a dull grind, I felt thrill and had to retreat more than I was expected to. I had my canopy broken, my modules busted, my hull perforated. But boy my heart was racing, blood was pumping, I was thrilled! Every victory was sweet and even getting away with my engines still on was already something to celebrate. Now this is Elite _Dangerous_ I want to play more! I certainly don't want it go back now. I'm rather unhappy with entitled attitude going on in this thread, with demands of easy combat and assured victory as cherry on the top. It's just more feeling of a mindless grind. Yugh!

Sure I understand that newbies might have a hard time. But we have _many_ wonderful communities that would welcome them, help them to adapt and excel at all aspects. Including combat. I feel that community aspect are largely overlooked here. For once in a while there is a reason to cooperate in combat because there's strength in numbers. And that's a good thing! But don't overdramatize it either. Sure it's hard without training and might take a while but it's something that you can get a hang of in a reasonable amount of time on your own as well. Just pick them one by one, don't jump on a large teams on NPC's alone and with a bit of training you would be fine even alone.

Opinions does matter and I respect all of them. I don't have to agree though. I feel some of you might as well disagree with me and that's absolutely fine :D

this new update means DEATH TO ALL NOOBS

Not quite. It's death of non-combat game play within Elite. Some people prefer to explore or trade but that will come to an end if nothing is done to resolve this.

In a way it kind of makes sense.. it is "Elite DANGEROUS" after all, not "Elite EXPLORE and TRADE".

I got a reply from support.

A partial reply, and they told me to get good.

I... don't even.

Apparently, it's working as intended.

So all the time I have been posting here and posting my stats is wasted because you didn't bother to read it? Par for the course on this thread. I will post again so you don't have to bother looking for it. No PP, no bounties, Novice pilot, take a newbie mission, fly out the slot, get interdicted by two master or higher class anacondas. Try to run, 4 pips to engine to boost away, change to four pips to shields when they start hitting me, FSD inhibited, dead before I can jump. I think that's six newby missions taken and five pythons in a row down the gurgler. or was it five newbie missions and four pythons, doesn't matter, python is permanently parked now.

Then that's me out of here, I don't combat, I can't trade, explore, maybe mine a bit without getting my ship destroyed every time I leave the station I don't play. Even if it was only every tenth time I could handle it. I can't believe it's working as intended because if it's working as intended they lost many of their non-combat players, which apparently is closing on 50% now.

Another AI Problem: Mining is almost impossible now.

In 2.0 (when I started playing ED) I would mine the 3 Metallic Asteroid Clusters in my home system and run into, at best, 4 NPC ships total and almost always one at a time. Sometimes it would be a pirate, others it would be a system authority vessel. This was good, because it gave me time to learn how mining works, but more importantly, it gave me time to actually mine stuff.

Now in 2.1, when I load into any of the 3 Asteroid Clusters, the whole instance turns into a bloody war zone full of hostile and friendly ships to the point where it is impossible to just ignore them and go about your mining. Even when the friendly ships are "Allied" and they out number the way-higher-level-than-me (Dangerous vs. my Novice) hostile NPCs, the hostile NPCs just focus on me. As such, I have to stop mining and run away every few seconds. I literally can't get any work done at all now.

These are plain old, stand alone, mining zones, not "Resource Extraction Sites" or "Combat Zones".

Please, stop.

It's funny you know, I've been spending the better part of a full weekend and last night, doing exactly what I was doing in 2.0 albeit with Engineers this time around and I've yet to experience the full wrath of the AI, when I have taken on the AI it's been a blast and VERY challenging but not impossible, I must be the most benign Commander in the galaxy.

Still waiting for the railgun bug.

My stats if anybody cares.
Combat - Expert
Exploration - Pioneer
Trader - Merchant

Friendly with all Superpowers- maybe that's the key to my non-threatening nature?
Maybe I don't get involved with NPC's I can't handle?
Maybe I'm not wanted in half the bubble?

Who knows either way the galaxy feels just the same (other than the great new features and a feeling of an actual working galaxy ;)) for me when I go about my business as I did in 2.0.

Such a sad day. I can see now there is no hope from players who aren't elite to stand a chance of hoping the AI gets toned down a bit, since every response is "I am awesome you should be too." I think even fans who don't think it is ok where it is at now are voting that way to sway the polls. No, I won't check for any replies because I know what they will be. "Get good, you suck." I really loved this game. It honestly pains me to say goodbye to it.
