So, what have you learned this weekend?

-Ulimited ammo - The devs keep stating this is not true (exception is multi cannon ammo)
-Unlimited chaff - Again they state that should not be the case, if it is happening it's a bug
-They can tell if you wanted in other system without scanning you down - So far I have only been hunted when I have a bounty on me and the NPC has been sent by someone looking for me. Similar to accepting a mission to hunt a particular NPC.

-Unlimited fuel/jump range - It would make the game pretty dull if we could simply outjump every combat build NPC, still I agree that is cheating.

What we have learned, thanks this weekend with gatling gun Plasma accelerators and rapid firing rail-guns that npcs.....
are experiencing a bug that needs to be hotfixed.

-Unlimited ammo Well from the hoard of bug videos I have watched and the sheer volume of Plasma or Railshots its clear they have unlimited ammo for certain weapons types. If that is a bug or not is unknown.
This also leads into the larger issue that a npc is able to unleash so much fire power with heat damage or wep capacitor drain.. Again whether or not is it a bug is unknown.
-Unlimited Fuel I Agree
-Unlimited chaff +1 bug

-Sending bounty hunters across the galaxy to collect a 1000cr bounty is ludicrous, 50,000 plus I can see but I would hope FD would have the foresight not paint wanted players with just one giant brush.

On the flip side I am loving the new combat A.I. for the npcs :D

i learned that the game is heading in a different direction than i'd hoped it would.

there's no way it could please everyone's tastes and eventually it would have to choose a side, which it did - challenge 1, casual 0.

i'll stick around for as long as i can, but i find these constant long drawn-out fights are a bit wearing and perhaps now the game is playing me more than i'm playing it

-Unlimited fuel/jump range - It would make the game pretty dull if we could simply outjump every combat build NPC, still I agree that is cheating.

I don't think it was boring; jump-range has always been an important trade-off in combat outfitting. You can't have a powerful jump-range against warships without simultaneously making yourself more vulnerable to attack if/when you lose an interdiction, and if you sacrifice your jump-range you can build a real killer of a ship that doesn't need to flee.

NPC outfitting being able to blithely ignore the foundational trade-offs that players are forced to make is kinda demoralizing IMHO.

(I'm guessing it's a bug, or perhaps more precisely; an extra level of detail needed in the simulation that has not yet been added. Not so much a mistake as a not-entirely-complete feature)

I just learned that NPC's have unlimited MC ammo and fuel. That IS cheating, and that is factual.

There should be no difference between NPC or PC: you run out of fuel or ammo, you're done. Why should NPC's be allowed to cheat with unlimited anything? That's just plain .

Because otherwise they would just run out of multicannon ammo and leave combat, so Commanders would have less chance of popping them. That's my understanding.

Sure, it isn't technically fair perhaps, but "meh." Just pop them first or leave yourself. Would you otherwise really need to stick around until they ran out of ammo to know things weren't going all that well?

I learned....

- NPCs have some pretty spectacular weapons, and thus I need to dodge and weave more.
- Seekers are fraking fun. And lethal in the right situation.
- There's still money to be made.
- 1 point defense turret is often required. 2 is even better.
- And finally, I learned that all those PvP fights I've engaged in, prepared me for the new AI. So my thanks to all those other CMDRs than I killed, and who also killed me.

-Stay close to home - high security systems can be managed, and I have avoided the multi-fire bug.
- When an NPC notes your tasty cargo, dropping from super-cruise allows you to avoid interdiction and give you more time to reach the base. The NPCs do not drop in on top of you as they used to, and often they make no appearance. They still keep re-appearing however, making long station hops an issue.
- Really lessens the opportunity to enjoy a beverage while running missions or fighting, but definitely increases the need for a strong one afterwards.
- trading with a good reputation in a rich system work out well; not the most profitable but does bring in ample credits for short hops.

They dont. its factual that they dont.
Yeah there is an issue with there weapon doing a lot of damage but thats an engineer upgrade , we can get it as well. it will be fixed

Yeah they do, they interdict you, you fight them off, they come back with full health and ammo where there's no way in hell they could have gone to a station to re-arm and repair and STILL catch you after you've gone 2 or 3 jumps from your last encounter.

I have learnt that most people have a view point and do not try to understand any other viewpoint, but I suppose I already knew that, just the last few days have reinforced it.

Murder is bad.
Bounty hunters have an uncanny ability to track me down.
Most bounty hunters are dangerous and use modded weapons.

That talk about waiting longer gets you a more stable product. Not!

As far as i'm concerned, that became an instant myth the very first time someone said it.
And a very popular one at that.

Not to rush

Flying Sidewinder, Economic route
70 jumps to Maia to get Meta Alloy
84 Jumps to [place] to Get Soontil Artefact
34 Jumps to Deciat to Deliver meta Alloy to Farseer
MANY more jumps to Khun to deliver Soontil Artefact
Come in hot too fast for Orbital Cruise
Cargo Hatch Malfunction

That is okay I can rescoop, I think

Gravity

Bye Bye Canisters

Scooping object in free fall, just as hard as you imagine, when you have to not make a new impact crater on the planet with your own ship

Shout have just taken the extra few minutes on the several hours journey

[note journey was fun as did stop off at places to run missions as I go to collect materials, length of journey fine]

On the Plus side puts me in mood for combat, Bounty Vouchers Tod acquired and deliver, he even up ammoed my railgun...which I cannot power... until I overcharge my power plant..... as I fitted the Enhanced Class 2 drives to the Sidewinder as it is too much fun..... seeing how they go with the clean drive upgrade as I lose speed but gain manoeuvrability.

I decided to reset my save for some fun...

Got so cheesed off at the stupid refit system and even more stupid screen layout changes that I figured I'd just do some missions...

Now it appears that i have to click through every faction to see what missions are available - click back through them to see which are the most profitable, click through them again to select the missions I want.

Got bored of doing this really fast. Not even got near an engineer yet but so far my thought on the game are...

I doubt I will be playing this game for much longer - to many poor design layout choices, poorly implemented mechanics leading to a lack of clear information. These for me are the signs that a company is rushing things - I've seen this to many times before.

A real shame, you have a great game before you messed it all up and turned it into click wars.

Still love the flying and fighting - well done SJA! You and your people at least did me proud - the rest... not impressed.

I learned that I should stop making exceptions to my "never play on patch day" rule.

Always wait for the inevitable bug fix patch. I waited over two months for a stable release of Minecraft 1.9 before updating, I can wait a bit for them to fix some of the more critical bugs before I start playing again (multicannon-plasma accelerators and beam-railguns, anyone?).

Also, I think after all the drama and fallout over this update, perhaps it's best to stay away from the forums as well during patch week. :p

I learned (again - repetition is part of the learning process I'm told) to not listen to 'Forum Rants™' and to play the game to be able to make my own judgements.

So far I like what I've experienced and have had zero problems with "OMG interdictions" and "OP AI".

Better lucky that good heh? :D

1. Trading is still the safest way to make cash.
2. There are ways of evading interdictions in SC.
3. T9's aren't built for stand-and-fight tactics... :(
4. 4 Shield Boosters FTW!
