The AI is better than me. There is no way I will ever get to ELITE combat rank. Ships I could have fun with killing the npc ships in now get wreaked. I have seen the future gentlemen. It is npc sidewinders with rail-guns and no overheating or re-loading. Adders that can out maneuver Vipers. Vultures with military armour that lose there canopy as soon as the shields are down. The AI seems to have preference for player ships as target.

The npc cops kill more pirates than me. This makes me so sad. :( I weep for all those lost bounties.

All I wanted was for npc's not to go into the "spin of death". Now I feel like I am fighting a terminator and it absolutely will not stop.

Was it your plan to weed out the less skilled players? I know there are people out there who can beat even this AI. I take my hat off to them.

I may never go to a Haz RES again.

Love how this went from "Git gud, suck it up, get it up ye and learn to play" to "The casuals won, this sucks and woe is me".

Funny that when it was the casual players getting dumped upon you die hard combat vets were laughing so hard it hurt.

I'd talk about karma but... Let's just say it was democracy in action. I'm equally sure you'll all seek revenge in some other cruel way.

Personally, I think none of us won, and only FDev lost. Add to the fact there was little to know warning, only posts I read in beta was about how great it was, they should have known that not all are equal.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. You know it's sad but true!

IMHO, there is no magic behind it. The 2.1 was online Thursday evening (European Time) and hardcore players and also long time players of Elite Dangerous immediately started to test it. Than the pool started Friday morning and those players started to put their votes. So, the result was more attracted to "Just right".
Friday evening, normal players who play the game only couple of hours during weekends started to test it and they started to vote too, probably on the "Too hard" side. And during Saturday and Sunday, there was more and more voters, maybe from players who simply play game and have no idea that there is a thing called "forum". Those players started dying in game, looked at the Internet/Google with something like "Elite Dangerous too hard today", found links to forum, started reading threads and voted too.

I would like to know the more in-depth analysis of votes. How many long term forum posters vote, what was the ratio of "Too hard"/"Just OK" between them, how many new registered forum users voted and how etc.

I just hope that those detailed results are available for FD for more in-depth analysis.

P.S. In the poll, there was 2056 voters. According to Steam, today peak was 5534 players online only through Steam. This does not count direct buyers, Xbox players etc. I do not know total number of players, but I think that it can be said that ALL long term forum users are a hardcore minority of total amount of players. And if from this small hardcore minority 47% voted "Too hard" against 41% "OK" votes, than the "OK" camp is really small. An average Elite player who has no idea what and where the forum is and is not actively discussing for a longer time here is most probably much worse pilot than we all are.

That's what I was suggesting but without wearing out my keyboard 😉

That aside:
Those with a garage full of vehicles and a bank full of billions are going to want bigger challenge's but from a commercial point of view it makes sense to satisfy the more numerous mid/lower skilled players. I could handle the engineered npc's but I still voted "too hard" because in the long term it's better for the game. The more folk who play the better IMO.

You made it dangerous and exciting, Frontier. It went well during the Beta, it went well during Live, and because of a handful of players who can't be       to get off their A-grade Pythons or learn how to fly them, you take a whole layer of NPC spawning and customization that more than half the community was more than alright with.

Yes, the casuals won. And it sucks big time. Have fun with your pre-chewed slop, chaps, space is safe again. You won't have to worry about your superiority as players being jeopardized anymore. Back in the protagonist chair.

I think its time to necromancer this one FD, could we please get the Ironman mode?

Ironman Elite
During commander creation the player may set the "ironman" flag. Ironman commanders can never be grouped with normal commanders. Players can use the same name for both normal and ironman commanders.
Escape pod systems can be damaged and made inoperable (they are still invincible once launched)
Escape pods are disposable: after use, a new pod can be purchased
Escape pods must be manually activated
Failure to use an escape pod permanently kills the commander if the ship suffers catastrophic hull damage (breaks apart)
Permanently killed commanders can be resurrected as a normal commander (no ironman flag), continuing from when they died
Ship warning systems and visual/aural cues activate when the ship nears total operational failure
The commander is not killed by any amount of ship operational failure
Commanders have emergency personal life support which activates in the event of life support failure
Personal life support can only sustain a commander for a limited time, but restocks when the commander is in a breathable atmosphere
If a commander's personal life support runs out the commander is permanently killed

I for one would very much like to get this, then we can have that just as we have SOLO, OPEN, PRIVATE Add IRONMAN to the modes.
problem solved, everyone is happy.

Ups forgot,
There you can crank up the NPC skills to BETA 4 level, that would be just fine.

Word. Way too much OP NPCs right now.
Give us our beloved stupid NPC's back please.

And give those who want challenge extra missions with special super pimped AI full on steroids killer terminator robot unicorns as targets that they can have their challenge and risk their own A-rated Conda.
Other palyers don't want this challenge. So please don't force them to have it, or you might loose a huge chunk of players wo actually loved this game.

Except this mentality is promoting exactly the opposite, and the player population shows it. Forgetting the fact that I've had 6 friends buy the game and then ditch it because they didn't find the combat challenging, when people have nothing to set as an achievable goal in the game, such as.... (HURR HURR! Wait for it..... Wait for it....) Getting. Good. they leave. There are hundreds of other games out there waiting to be played and there is no reason to stick around and wait for this one to spontaneously become interesting again.

These players are gone, and only an infinitesimal percentage of them will ever consider coming back.

I play sporadically due to work commitments but I came back on to run some trading missions. Twice got interdicted by an Eagle (I have T6) and both times they melted my shields and armor within 45 seconds of interdict.

Not sure what I could do about that.

Try mining. Asteroids don't shoot back.

You can't fly your ship back to the station without beeing interdicted all the time or attacked a the mining site and insta killed by some NPC.
And not everyone likes mining. Some want to fight. Some earned ther money by doing real missions (not some design flaw like Robigo ect.) to afford a python. They don't want to risk their new ship and go bankrupt after 2-3 attempts.

But some small minded players don't get it. They want it hard and challenging on every aspect of the game. No matter what other players prefer. Well FD is on a good way to lose a lot of players. Then this game won't be an MMO anymore, but a single player mode with online option for those few "I need a challenge" guys.
I'm kinda currious how those few players that will stay left want to occupy a 400 billion starsystems big game universe with live.

Nobody said you had to profit from your mining, just dump the cargo and keep shooting rocks. Very Zen.
