about to lose 68 hours of gameplay

Downgrade all primary modules to D and add A rated thrusters. No NPC will catch you.

Edit: And Deadspin, you do realize that the only person mentioning these things are you, lately...

Edit 2: And OP, if You want help, feel free to contact me in game and we can think of something. :)

If only that were true :( There was a promising post just a bit ago indicating that they have isolated and managed to squash the instakill weapons, though that does remain to be seen. They still have not figured out the overly aggro NPC's yet. It does look like once they get those kind of bugs worked out, it will be playable for casual players again. Lets hope at least. In the mean time, it is still going to be a bit dicey out there.

The insta kill weapons are still in the game sadly, Zac has stated that they should be gone sometime early next week, possibly sooner.

SirW you are not alone in being a victim to this dreadful AI bug, it’s really slammed a lot of commanders. You can contact support to request credits be refunded, they have been doing this. I suggest you simply stop playing the game until the middle to end of next week, or until you see the devs post that the AI weapons bug is finally squashed. Hopefully this will all behind us very soon.

Thank you for all the tips and your offers to help.

I generally never play in open. I hate it to mess with people who have fun hunting other players. So assisting me is not an option.
Exploring is not my game. Tried it for a while. I don't like it. It bores me.
I disagree with people who say 84 was harder. I played for a very long time Elite on my C64. If i remember correctly my joystick in this days just had two axis and one button. But maybe i'm just getting old...

The best way to me really seems to buy a small ship and let the Mk III in the shelter.

I am currently in Empire space, if by any chance you are near, add me up in game and I'll take you to some resource sites and earn you some cash.

NPCs were pretty brutal after 2.1, but now that the engineer modules were removed from them, they are actually more manageable. Like someone else suggested, do the training missions :) They offer a good way to train and practice flying without losing anything.

My CMDR name is Oridinn. I am currently in Yan Musu, and I don't mind flying a few dozen light years to help out.

Also, you don't need to play in Open to team up. You can create a private group and invite only those you want to have in it. :)

Yes, you can just use a Sidewinder or a Eagle, which by the way is incredibly fun to fly.
You could go to a Resource Extraction Site (make sure it's marked as LOW) and help the authorities destroy pirate ships; that should help you get more credits and afford to fly (and lose) bigger ships. Always avoid being the first to shoot a pirate; let the system authorities take the initiative and join then a bit later, that way the pirate won't target you first. Right now I'd say destroying pirate ships in a resource extraction site (RES) is one of the most profitable activities. It can help you not only make credits, but also to polish your combat skills so you'll be better prepared to fight when need in the future.

Fly safe and good luck!

Yes, that would also be my recommendation. It took me a few encounters before I didn't get wasted by the changed AI behaviour. As vizvayu says, the Sidewinder or Eagle are very cheap options that can reasonably be fitted with your resources and rebuy won't hurt you. The Eagle is also really fast. A Viper is also an option, but fitting those can start to be expensive.

Stick to systems with stable governments and thus police, and when you get interdicted, well, "get better", try to maneuver around the attacker until police shows up, and then collect their bounty. If you're careful and hand in bounties frequently, that should eventually give you some good combat experience and credits. You can also try some of the lower-ranked retrieval missions (black boxes, trade data, etc.) that only require one item; you usually don't get attacked before you scooped the canister, so you can enter the instance, plot a course home, grab the goods, and then run like hell :D

Personally I think the Mk3 Cobra is one of the best low/mid end ships in the game, in fact I was using one to do specific missions earlier, including combat without any issues.

I'd stick with the Cobra but get some A rated thrusters and the largest A rated shield.

How much is your rebuy cost? If you will venture out into open, even temporarily, I'll transfer some cargo to you to cover your rebuy a few times over so that you can still continue using the Cobra.

OP, I feel for you.

Looks like a silent majority will have an extremely, extremely hard time. It will reflect in the sales. This game became very unfriendly for the casuals - maybe too much.

All the best, OP. Hang in there.

Yup, I completely agree CMDR.

....and those Eng mods have not been removed from NPCs...not the ones i have interacted with anyways.

But there are some very focused and capable CMDRs that can handle all this intensity but dont consider it fun to deal with at every corner whether they have loads or limited time to play. This design will in itself be the limiting agent to game play rather than many CMDrs IRL scenarios if this keeps up.

@OP

My brother has been playing for a year.

He has also lost practically everything and cannot afford to fly again because if he loses another ship he will be back in a sidewinder. And he lost it in one evening's play.

Yep, that's what I've been doing since 2.1. I lost an A-rated Python to the AI bug, since then I've left my expensive ships in the station and been flying around in Eagles and Adders. I'm actually having fun putting around in the small ships, and if I get killed by another bugged AI then the insurance cost won't be any big deal.

If he's worried about rebuy costs isn't A-rating it the wrong thing to do? The A rated modules are a lot more expensive than the ship itself, and the difference in performace is barely noticeable. Military Grade Composite plating is about five times as many extra hit points than an A-rated shield over D-rated and costs about 1/5th as much.

He won't have to worry about rebuy costs if he get's A-rated thrusters. A fast runner like this costs just under 6 million, it will be more than enough to escape NPC's in 2.1 (As long as he boosts away after an interdiction) http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_...303010101.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==?bn=Mission runner

6 mill is nothing to many of us here, especially the Robigo runners. I'd be happy to drop enough for him to upgrade to that build, Am sure it's the same for many others here.

So we're starting a 'Go Fund Me' for A rated thrusters for a down on his luck CMDR? [haha] Let's do this!

OP: Learn how to run away!

You are in a Cobra MK III for crying out loud! One of the fastest ships in the game! It is the defacto number one ship to learn to be a space pirate in... for a reason. You can escape.

So please, spend some time thinking about how to escape because you absolutely should be able to every single encounter you face.

Write ticket to FDexplain situation. 99.9% chance You will be refunded.if not some of us will make donations including me.
Cheers

P.s. Even we can do escort for you with 10 cmdr in wing to show that npcs        s we can adapt their ai 😉

To the OP, what are you doing when you say you cannot escape? Are you trying to fight and dying, or being destroyed whilst in retreat?
The cobra has speed on its side. Pip management is important. If I'm not fighting, I fly with four to shields and two in engines. No pips go to weapons. Boost in that configuration whilst dropping chaff and flying a random course.
Hopefully you submit to the mini game so you can charge your drive quickly. Do so as soon as possible. If you are mass locked, consider a high wake to a new system, or boost some more. It should be possible to flee most things with minimal impact.
Edit: take missions / deliver cargo in controlled systems rather than anarchy systems. Fewer problems that way and you get police help if you are stuck for a while.

I agree but I don't have the time for that. I just lost an A rated Python to an NPC DBS in about 30 secs. Can't really afford to do that many more times. I probably should just have tried to High wake out but hay ho, too late to worry now. If I try again it'll just be with the Cobra.

If you have an A rated Python, then you've played long enough to know when to fight or flee right? Dbs was bugged?

Hi,

i'm one of the casual guys here and i can tell you i'm more than unhappy with the new NPCs.

I am an awfull fighter and i know it. I'm also short on time. So i don't manage to get much better.
Since release day i played for 68 hours. I never used any tools to find top trading routes or cared for any ship builds that are discussed.
I just traveled from system to system earning some credits doing small delivery missions and a little trading.
Ending up with a Cobra Mk III with mediocre equipment and 2 million Credits in the bank. The last days melted my little cash like
ice in the sun. Because i never ever manage to escape any attacker. Now my ship stands in the docking bay of my home planet again
and i do not dare to start. Because the next time i get smashed, i will not be able to rebuy my ship. I will lose everything i played for
the last 1 1/2 years. You can't imagine how disapointed and upset i am right now.

So i beg to you FD, please give people like me a chance to stay in this game.
An option to choose a beginner difficulty level in solo play would be totaly fine for me. I don't need a challange.
I have challanges enough in real life.

You're not losing 68 hours of gameplay, it's not going anywhere, you're not losing any gained ranks, reputation, discoveries, enjoyment, sadness, disappointment or any other experience over the 68 hours played, what you are likely to lose is virtual material things that can be replaced, you will always have access to a basic sidewinder just as we all did and still do, if the loss of that concerns you so much send me a message in game and I will gladly come give you enough high value goods to cover it and more.

Leave the game as i do ! I had 600 hours played, one billion in bank, the bigger ship. But i stop playing this game, i have no fun, it take to much time for nothing, completely rng. So Bury the game is the best thing you can do and enjoy the sun out there !
