The time has come

I wouldn't mind an offline mode, my internet connection gets a bit useless at times... Just before it goes out entirely for hours at a time. Hooray for crappy service.

I think if the offline thing were to work though, it would have to be like Diablo 2, separate characters for offline so people can't hack/cheat their offline character then bring it online.

Just thinking back to the horror of Diablo 1 and all the crap cheats people used because characters were not stored on the server at that time.

Single Player games have survived this long, I doubt a Single Player Elite would somehow be any different than business as usual.
He's asking for it alongside the big multiplayer version

Do one or the other. We're all in it together or we're not - and i love it that we're all in it together.

if he wants his solo offline galaxy sure but it can be dead and sterile - free of NPCs and interdictions and hassle and story - play nice and safe while we take on the utter nightmare that's going to come out of Dryman - just listen to that name? That's not good is it. That's going to be terrifying - these people wanting easy mode will utterly destroy any possibility of us having any kind of updated version of the Thargoid threat

Climb down from your high horse - offline single player is not "easy mode", it's a different game, and it's existence does not preclude the game you prefer.

We need the single player offline game we had originally been promised, that's for sure. Right now, nothing else will see me play Elite Dangerous again.

I know quite a few (My Father and many gaming friends) Who were looking forward to the Off-line mode for modding purposes, none of them play now. I admit offline would be cool, and would certainly open up lots of possibilities in the mod dept (I know its not possible with the current game structure). Sad that it wont happen, would certainly boost players :)

I, for one, backed ED on Kickstarter for what Elite2: Frontier (and the two other Elite games) was: a single player game. I play no MMOs and I was not happy when they cancelled Single Player Offline mode. One should note three points though:

1. They did offer refunds to backers that could not live with the change
2. The claimed 40 to 80 TB of required disk space to host the whole game are quite believable (400G star systems)
3. If tailored to the maximum that they might have practically done without servers, let us say 50 GB download and 100 GB disk space, we would not nearly have the game that we have today.

So, I did not claim a refund, grudgingly accepted the server requirement and went on to enjoy playing the game. I still don't play any MMOs and feel that Elite Dangerous does not really count as one. However, I feel sad thinking that ED will eventually die completely the day they shut off the servers - no chance that someone will enjoy it on a Windows emulator 30 years from now.

Frontier to release that 'offline' mode/patch that was developed before elited launched in its current form, yet never implemented.

Elited needs modding
Elited needs a true singleplayer offline mode decoupled from onlineplay
It is impossible to balance solo with online/wings gameplay
It is impossible to balance current implementation of open/groups ( with pvp ) and solo ( with pve )
It is impossible to cater to both open mode folks and solo ( who are playing solo because that offline mode that actually came with elited was cut out and instead it was switched to needing a server conection whatever and whatnot)

The effects of disgruntled customer base ( and players leaving ) is already in effect
Do this before its too late

ONLINE GAMES OR ONES NEEDING a server to actually be playable never have an future ( save for wow wich is an exception , but elited is not an true mmo never will be at any rate )
If elited continues along this path there will be more and more compromises to the detriment of the game for both open and solo players, surely you the creators of the game can see this already
Look at fallout series , elder scrolls, gta to name a few, its very sad what is the current state of the game .[sad]

That's a big

They didn't exactly offer refunds, they said they'd consider requests for a refund on a case by case basis. I stuck it out, because I'd waited decades for the next Elite game, and at that point I still trusted FD and held a large stock of good will for them. I know what you mean about the inability to revisit this game on an emulator in years to come. It is indeed sad.

My mum made me eat sprouts tonight with my tea.

I don't like sprouts, FD, please remove sprouts from my tea before it's too late.

You mean like people do currently..... In solo play?
