The time has come

Maybe we need.... A Poll!
Lots of those going around at the moment.

No poll is needed, FD will not do it even if you had 100 % yes for a Offline SP game. However DB and FD team did say that the idea is not 100 % ruled out, but its not for now and only when most of the feature are in the game they will start to look at SP and modding tools. So you're maybe 5 years more out in the future before that will happen.

Offline games with their own BGS have been done before. The X series games by Egosoft are an example where players can trade with AI stations or build their own stations.
An offline Elite wouldn't have any politics though, but that's already something that doesn't concern some players. I would want no online aspect whatsoever, in other words a completely separate player character that cannot be played online.
There a people playing ED now who spend most of their time out exploring far away from the bubble. For them the BGS essentially does not exist and they don't miss it.

you aren't really talking about an offline mode then.. you are talking about a scaled down, static, if not sterile, volume of systems to travel around in, that would forever need to be separate to the main game. so basically a mini game, that wouldn't reflect the scale or premise of the original.. again to what end? yes there are other games that have done something similar.. but they are tiny in comparison, and well, not elite, the same as the game you think it could be. if creating this kind of complexity in a mini game was a simple thing, or worthwhile, why hasn't anyone else done it already? and that leads us back to the reason frontier couldn't make it work and didn't want to implement something half ass'd, it would have been too cumbersome, or a stripped down version just wouldn't be the game they are developing. in the future, post development, who knows what tech and what can be done then.. for now.. no cheese!

big difference is.. the engine used by bethesda now has a mass of documentation and they where complete game releases with custom built environments. frontier uses its own engine, it is unknown outside frontier, and the core feature of the game is the BGS which is something that constantly evolves and would become static in isolation. in order for your offline game to work it would either need to remain static, or update everytime you did go online, at which point the game would need to update everything to your static version of the sim, and then rigorously check your version to make sure it was untampered.. both of which would take a lot of time, with a lot of data.. while you may only have played within a 40 or 50 ly and visited maybe 20 systems.. in real game time, the sim has been busy everywhere.

an offline version would literally need to be a custom, scaled down version of the real game, as it is today.. no updates, noone to effect the mini bgs but you.. what a total waste of time, and effort.. it would be so pale and sterile beside the online game, that i cant see frontier touching the idea with a barge pole.. hence they couldn't find a way to feasibly do once development had started and they realised just how the bgs represents with the game.. ie, everything we interact wth, that isnt another player, is governed, controlled reacted to, by the bgs.

Plenty of games have a BGS that don't require a separate server. I don't think anyone is arguing that they want an Offline version that is somehow connected the Online version.

I'm playing Rebel Galaxy right now, and it has fluctuating markets that are tied to scripted and player triggered events.

Yup, but you know feature creep, gotta keep the focus on the ball.

There are already people who spend months on end far away from the bubble and the BGS. When they come back it's to sell data and after hanging around a bit, they often head out again for another few months. The actual bubble itself is only a tiny, tiny portion of the game galaxy and once you are 1000ly away (about 30 minutes travel time in an exploration optimised Asp) there are no stations or NPCs to be found hence no need for a complex BGS or many different factions.
Personally I don't care about which faction owns what in the bubble so long as they are willing to buy or sell goods to me or buy exploration data. Powerplay isn't something I'm interested in.
You mention that the systems we travel in would forever need to be separate to the main game. Yes, that is exactly what we want.

Wait, what was I going to reply with?

The effects of disgruntled customer base ( and players leaving ) is already in effect
Do this before its too late

Oh yeah!

That's one dead horse we're beating on, here. :)

Seriously, though, I think this is something that is impossible at this point. Going forward I expect incremental changes, not complete re-imagining of the core game structure.

Here you go Jenner. Just fill in the blanks.

We need the single player offline game we had originally been promised, that's for sure. Right now, nothing else will see me play Elite Dangerous again.
Yet you haunt the forums for a game you'll never play. I must admire your dedication to a cause, however.

Dead horse? At this point we're beating the pile of bone dust created by bashing this horse with baseball bats since beta...
Are you sure? I think we are beating the little critters that ate the bone dust created by bashing the horse with baseball bats, clubs, and really big sledge hammers...

If you looks close, them critters are moving. Listen closely and you can hear their tiny screams.

eeeeeeee!

Need smaller font. :)

Haunt? Hardly. I checked the forums yesterday, for the first time in a while, to see what the word on the street was about the latest updates.

*Edited afterthought after checking - before yesterday, I'd last posted on the 11th of April (2 posts) and before that a single post on the 30th of March. That must make me about the laziest ghost there is.

It did in fact exist and there were screenshots of it in the game menu.

?

That's news to me! and if such screenshots do indeed exist (i've never seen them myself) just because an option was shown in the menu screen you can't then extrapolate that particular mode of the game had been worked on, let alone completed! could be just a place holder for intended/wishlist features!

So here is the deal.... IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN WHILE THE GAME IS LIVE. You're going to have to wait till the game 'ends' then it was promised it would be patched for offline mode or server code would be released. Till then, get used to p2p instancing and a transaction server.

They abandoned the offline mode because they failed to fix the bugs related to AI, missions, etc.

Oddly you're not the person I originally replied to, you're not the OP and you're not the only one here in the conversation - I would beware assuming everything is directly addressed to you.

You should take greater care when replying to multiple quotes. The second quote in your post was not attributed to anybody, and followed a quote from me.
