Best Asp explorer build post 2.1?

I know many disagree, but trust me, 6A scoops are NOT needed :) I buckyballed the last 40000 LYs (about 1200 jumps) to BP on 5A scoops, doubt anyone with 6A would have got there much more than 1 hour before me.
Releasing the 6 slot allows better shields, or in my case a quad hangar SRV. Normally I wouldn't take 4, but I thought with you guys there will be lots of shenanigans on the way to BP in DWE :D

the 6A makes the difference when you have a plotted route that only includes a scoopable every 5-10 systems. With every system a scoopable, even a 4A would probably do.

I have ditched the weapons and got thermal resistant 1A shield boosters from Ms Farseer.

I plan on running with full shields if in trouble out there, not fighting.

I'm looking forward to seeing some builds once everyone has upgraded the modules they want... for exploring of course. It's just a shame how much effort it takes to acquire the materials needed and then you might not get lucky.

Where? Only ever seen that in the brown dwarf zone, 60 LY below the plane. Sorry but even scooping every 5th the 6A's advantage is not much. You run a 10 jump ship ?

Using size 6 slot for 64-ton cargobay to use cargoslider for less-than-maximum range jumps results in fuel savings and thus scooping time savings, although after having flown past 6 months with a 6A scoop (due to 2.0 release shenanigans and cargoslide being horribly broken for a while) I think it doesn't really matter whether you have a cargoslider or not or big scoop or small scoop and so on. Unless you buckyball and want the absolutely fastest record breaking speed or something. But for regular exploring, nah, no matter at all.

My current build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/05A5A...Iw18WQ==.Aw1+gzCCMBMIg===?bn=Valkur's Blessed

Was hoping to ugprade the FSD with grade 5 engineering, but servers crashed, I lost my mats for the said upgrade, customer support "does not have the tools" to refund mats, and now I've kinda lost my appetite for Elite for a while.
.
Oooh, that hurts. I recognise that feeling, but somehow the bug gets me back!
I have found a bit of 'aimless' exploring - scanning everything sight, whatever the SC distance, with some relaxing music(up to 150k so far I think) - does it for me.
Plus aimless pottering around a 1g plane (don't like low-g)t, not bothered what I find (surprising what turns up then!)
Anyway, safe flying when you do return ... :)

Dognosh, going to try your suggestion of a 5A fuel scoop, makes sense to make room for a better shield. Different mind-set and tactics post 2.1, I am still thinking DWE.

That was just a suggestion :)
Remember your ship weighs 450t and your shield is for 540t optimal mass, does that mean you lose some of the shield's protection ? (as I don't know)
Or above optimal shields is a plus ?

right now i have a fuel tank in place of the 1 bay hangar. that will be changed when i returned from dwe.
without the extra tank i find it even more important to have a complete refuel before jumping since i don't want to check the route for scoopables ahead every 2nd jump. On fastest route mapping with a 6A i can make it only most of the times. 5A-6A is a difference of 55s-36s for a full tank. too much for my taste :)
but who knows what the engineers can do with a scoop. maybe we get some instascoop gear :)
when going the economic route, a 3A scoop is probably enough tho :)

good points :)

just to add to the topic: have a look at 5D shields, if you care about shields. less weight then 3A, and more MJ.

concerning engineers upgrades: beside the usual fsd increase, I'd give a D-class powerdistributor a engine focus. allows you constant boost, even 1 size smaller - less weight for the same effect.

i don't explore with weapons (because they have no defensive value in ED), but if, you'll like the lightweight mounts.

add clean drive tuning to 5D thrusters - you'll be as fast as with class a thrusters, or, if you like to cruise over surface, do the same with 5A thrusters, and you get as fast as a cobra mkIII.

if you run into power problems - D-class powerplant with a cool running modification, or an undersized a-class powerplant overcharged.

that said, i decided not to engineer an AspE. anaconda and DBE it is for me.

Just changed out my 6A Fuel Scoop to make way for 6A shields... Thanks for the suggestions

6A shields don't make sense on an aspE. because the class 5 optimal mass are already way above hullmass, you only gain 20%. in terms of power and MJ and weight you are always better off with a shieldbosster and/or an additional AspE. the class 6 slot is either cargo or fuelsoop.

This is my Asp Explorer.

I have hit the ground at 300 m/s and come up with 50% hull with those shields, so I'm satisfied they are able to provide bump protection. If I hit the ground faster than that it's all luck.

I have no idea what to do with that size 3 slot. I chose a 6D fuel scoop because it takes 1:03 to refill the tank, that seems fast enough to me - maybe I'll get a 6A before I go out next time. A 24 second difference between D and A isn't really meaningful to me personally.

I have an engineer improvement on my FSD that gets me just short of 36 ly.

I am considering upgrading the distributor just for QoL when boosting, though that's only important in an emergency........ but it's also only important during an emergency.

An easy cut is the vehicle hangar is you hate vehicle stuff: drop yourself to 1 car in the 3 slot and use it just to collect synthesis mats, don't do anything like I do with my space cars.

This is my trading Asp-X, Boar of Typhon. 112 tons cargo with max racks. Up to 120 if absolutely necessary for a really juicy mission in that cargo range. A rated for "boosting the hell outta there". 3A shields and triple shield boosters. I always fly with DSS+ADS if possible because that is Free Money. I could change the chaff to point defense if the meta with missiles and torpedoes demands it. No dirty pill-popping engineers have touched it.

This one suits me. Gets more than 30LY in a single jump and scoops to a full tank in one short buzz of a star.
Why 5A thrusters? Have you seen my landings? Better thrusters = better landings. At least in my case.
Why 4A power distributor? Let's me boost away from interdictions quicker when nearer the bubble. 2.1 NPCs are(were) nasty. Don't want to lose all that valuable data on my return.
Why 6G planetary lander module? Spares dear boy, spares!
Why 3A shields? Just strong enough to hold whilst escaping NPC interdictions. I have it disabled a lot of the time to keep heat down.
Why two AFMUs? One to repair the other. Plus I only had two slots left so fitted nicely.

This is my exploring Asp-X, Gatyaskuvik. As always, built to "boost the hell outta there". I recently gave up a light year jump range to beef up the shields and power plant for the recent patch. Has cargo racks because I like extra profit from rares trade when I can get it. I also got enough money for the 6B scoop, but 6C is plenty. 6A just costs silly money and extra rebuy. I could buy another nice ship for my fleet for the cost of a 6A scoop. I also replaced a heat sink launcher with point defense for the recent patch.

@Jigster

TWO AFMUs! THAT'S WHAT I SHOULD BE USING MY OTHER SIZE THREE SLOT FOR!

Man I've been fighting with this thought for some time, perfect!

Plus our fittings seem to be nearly identical. :)
