Really?

Hm... At work now, so I can't check, but I think I am fine with less high-ranked NPC's in open space. It sounds, off the bat, more realistic for them to be more rare unless you go looking. What about HazRES / Compromised Nav Beacons? As long as they are still there, I think it might be a decent compromise.

(going off FD's word that the AI has not been dumbed down, just the weapons bugs fixed, and that the AI will gain more behaviors in the future)

I wasn't actually kidding. Mostly harmless and low ranked AI in SC. I ran quite a few missions this evening, and only the actual mission related ships sent to attack me were high ranked. Most everything else was quite low ranked.

High security system, maybe?

I agree with that, but the trouble is, it's not varied at all,it's gone from ranks comparable to mine to only harmless or less. One extreme to the other.

I would be perfectly happy and would love to see NPCs coming after me that are chosen by some combo of my rank, what ship I am flying, what rank the mission is and maybe even how well off the faction giving the mission is.

Nope. I rolled through a couple anarchy (I dropped into one to collect 'hauler' related materials at a nav beacon, no less) and it felt like high sec. Frontier have really wound down the numbers of elite/ deadly/ dangerous. It used to be you enter anarchy, you get mobbed.

Not any more.

Effectively the AI has been dumbed down by virtue of the massively reduced rate in which high ranks spawn. Virtually all of this rolling back because of the bizarre OP weapons the AI seemed to be able to build has caused CMDRs to see red (I mean, I can understand that) and demand pretty much the entire thing be undone.

The AI was far from perfect, but SJA did a fantastic job, and much of that is just being ripped out.

That sounds like an excellent balanced idea. I'd love that...

Bummer. :( Hopefully they intentionally overcompensated on the down-toning, and then will slowly ratchet things back up until they are comfortable with it. From an overall customer-service point of view, that's probably the best route actually. Shame though in the meantime.

It's the usual "okay, we hear you, Braben's Hammer has fallen" and pretty much a massive change is put through. I'm sure Frontier will nudge it some more. I do hope so. It will be laughable in a month or so. Sorry SJA; you did such awesome work. Argh.

Frustrating.

I am hoping that FD are just in mid-tweak and everything will work out OK in the end

Blame the RNG :) I am being stalked by Elite this and Deadly that still. Today, after patch, two Elite Annies and an Elite Asp E (that made me run I must add, thought my Asp was kitted out enough to take him but he kept hitting me with plasmas... I think, those balls of light anyways.)

Edit: My combat rank is only Competent, so that certainly isn't taken into account...

It must be RNG really, nothing but elite ships for me. To be fair since 2.1 ive only been interdicted by elite ships. But the biggest one was Vulture, no Anaconda or any of big ships so far.

I hope so. Will know in a few hours when I drag my butt out of bed (it's nearly 5am here now) and continue my quest to unleash the pre-nerf Python trapped within the post nerf one ^.^

So far in 2.1 I haven't been interdicted by anything less than Deadly in rank. Mostly FAS and FGS, but the odd bit of stalking from an Elite Anaconda. Doesn't seem to have changed today! Mind you I never fight them as my ships aren't set up for that kind of combat, so I run pretty much every time... maybe that makes them displeased off and they get their buddies to hunt me ;)

What is annoying is when they run... just spent 10 minutes with an Elite FDL and the         ran away...!

Handed in a few missions now and the eagles have stopped for the moment.

I assume this must have been related to a low ranked mission requirement. The game needs to take more than just that rank requirement into account,as I said above. Basing the quality of opponent purely on that one factor is just wrong.

Depends though, some players want a challenge from the AI, some aren't really interested in combat and would prefer to be left alone, and/or be able to buy a Cutter and fly safely into the sunset. Hard to please both camps - I know I would be pretty        if I was only interdicted by Elite Anacondas and Corvettes while I was out flying my Cutter... makes the ship a bit pointless really!

Now you know how the NPC's feel when you run. :D

Haha, that would explain the stalker Anacondas! Hope the FDL tells his mates that I'm not to be messed with ;)

Im flying only my cobra, and quickly found out that those elite npc are though as hell, at least for me. Surviving is not a problem, but killing them is really dificult, mainly because of lack of time my guns are on target.

Trying missiles and beams combo now, will see how it will work out.

Man, those Vipers, with that boom and zoom tactic are really Bf 109s of elite now.

Now I wonder :)
Deadly and Elite NPC's are the not supposed to be "not common" I mean for a cmdr to make Elite is an effort at least ! Why do people expect Elite and Deadly NPC's to be abundant ?
Please get a grip! They are not abundant and should not be, as there is not that many, and when you meet them prepare for a fight! IMO.
If the galaxy is swimming with high levels , how do you expect lower levels to survive?
I think that high level players will just have to cool down on ranking up as viable targets are more scarce and more rare. Working as intended. And anyway Elite status is just Epeen, will not get you a better deal at the bank ;)
Cheers Cmdr's
