Entitled Gamers and Other Logical Fallacies

Well if you miss that, I suggest you ask for collaboration in another way :D

Cheers Cmdr's

Apart from finding materials, I am not really struggling. Just trying to help people that are still looking for it with whatever I can do. Getting lots of flak for being accused of telling people to "git gud" in the process. It's very frustrating trying to be helpful on the forums these days.

I thought the video ironic. I got the impression that he is the sort of person who whines about having to pay for content, or that he got beaten in PvP and is labelling arguments not aligned with his viewpoint as "dangerous".

I might be wrong, because I only watched the first few minutes. I decided that I'd already lost a few minutes of my life, and didn't want to risk any more.

I truly dont know what these players were doing for nearly 2 years because they were not learning anything about the game and IMHO its the fault of having such an easy switch from open to solo (easy mode ) players became Lazy grinders and the AI was easy both side are to blame FD made it easy for lazy gaming and the lazy gamers did the rest

Fixed your post. :D Because that is what you wanted to come across. Thank you for your deep insight. I could not have existed without.

Don't. Modifying a quoted post can (and will) be considered to be "User Impersonation" and may be dealt with accordingly.

Saw this video, and i immediately though of this place, especially with all the recent arguing about 2.1

thoughts?
Yeah, a good video, for a lot of the issues that are going on in a lot of games of late, not just Elite. Gaming communities/culture has gone a bit sideways.

Quick question about this, off topic but allow me:

Does replacing the original quote with a placeholder like 'snip' or 'fold' count as impersonation too? I do it a lot for visibility purposes when replying to very long posts since it makes it easier to read for people following the entire thread. Should I (and many others) stop doing that?

Not in my opinion.

A cleaner way to do it is to place the quoted text within the quote tags in a spoiler.

Why over a half?

Exactly half of people are at or below average intelligence - by the definition of an arithmetic mean. So why over a half? That confusing message has been caused by you including the condition 'of people you meet.'

That depends who you meet. If you are a university professor, slightly over half the people you meet may be of over average intelligence. If you are in prison, over half the people you meet are likely to be under average intelligence.

Your clever statement - which went slightly awry - would be better stated 'half of people are of average intelligence or below.'

Well, these are all hypothetical statistics, seeing as none of us truly "meet" a sterilized, clinical sample of human beings so as to be representative of all levels of cognative ability in any given day, or even in a lifetime, but it does depend on where you are taking your average from. Please refer to this abitrary, unfounded graph of real-legit scientific data showing the bell-curve of the inteligence of the human race:

as you can see, only a small portion of people are geniuses, while most are genuinely close together. so if we take our "average" as meaning the top 50% and the bottom 50% of humanity (which if I'm not wrong is called a "median" and not an "average"), statistically you will meet just as many sub-par beings as you will outstanding ones- however, if we state that our definition of "average" is rather the halfway point between top of what can be possibly achieved but the most absolutely stellar god-tier pc-elitist human beings, and some sort of absolute baseline, which we will arbitrarily call the point of brain death, a larger-than-50% portion of our random survey people will be below average. Science!

Wow. that was so arbitrary and not peer reviewed or backed by any meaningful research or consensus. I can't believe that I felt that that was an appropriate reply. seriously, I made a curve chart in paint with three colours at 3am to defend a moot point on an internet forum that is without any doubt completely unrelated. I must be tired. time to stop.

Not at all. Consider the following numbers 7,2,3,4,9,2,1.

The mean (average) is 4. (1+2+2+3+4+7+9)/7.

The median is 3. (1,2,2,3,4,7,9)

The mode (most common) is 2. (1,2,2,3,4,7,9).

It's OK Robert, he didn't actually modify my post. Just snipped out the part he wanted to focus on verbatim. Completely changed the meaning of my post, but hey that's what happens on the evening news sound bytes too :)

Apologies, I should have put a jk emoticon in.

I was trying to make a wider point on how statistics are used erroneously by using statistics erroneously.

Edit:- having read the rest of the thread now - IN YOUR FACE, I am right.

I think I am a bit in love with Dr Seuss too xx

It was clever though wasn't it?

Bit of a bias there... wasnt there a (US) study in which they found the prison population was significantly above average intelligence?

Not enough Ps and Qs in that video. Oh and every time I see Baltar there, I want to smash his face in. Damn Cylon lovers - no wonder he's such a big fan of 2.1, he loves aimbotting AI.

Also never forget that over half the people you meet will be of less than average intelligence.

Actually, exactly 50% of the people you meet will be of median intelligence, or less.

Just as 50% of E: D players will be of median skill in combat...or less.
