Interdiction Death Squads

Could you please post a video of this encounter or something like it? Surely you must be able to replicate it, right?

I'm not saying I don't believe what you said, but I haven't seen any evidence of this behavior.

And you're saying a sidewinder whooped you at long range? Video please.

I don't enable shadowplay ever. I don't have the room on my SSD right now.

But plain as day it actually "flashed" like when a ship appears out of supercruise RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME 2 times. Each time I was in the asteroid belt and it had its tail pointed to me. A FDL .. I wish I could but I was too busy running.

At one point I actually did fight back I had the advantage so I used my 3 gimballed pulse lasers (class 3) with full pips to weapons and I ran out of power - it still didn't even take 1 ring of his shields. He was "Elite".

For future reference to anyone else posting / going to post on this thread;

This was prior to the Hybrid Weapon fix, and Engineer mods withdrawal from NPCs.

Just in-case we get ahead of ourselves. :D

Nope just last night I got his with an "Overheating" weapon from that FDL. They still have engineer weapons!

Now they are sending power play people in res zones .. interesting. Felicia Winters sent someone after me inside a zone while I was mining!

Wow..

Yeah, tell me about it..just got back into my non-modded, multipurpose DBS (after concentrating on modding my Vulture)..paid a visit to a HazRES..spotted a nice juicy FDL so engaged - just as I got his shields down a wing of Fed agents (3 Cobras) started laying in to me.

..now I don't run ever & managed to destroy them all with 24% hull remaining..but the biggest problem is I am now wanted & have earned no bounties except the FDL..& my ship is v low on chaff, no SCBs left & not really in any condition to continue, hence I have to return to repair & restock!
This is pretty commonplace, in my experience!

NB - Also happens when running missions - scanning a nav beacon..immediately attacked by 3 'shield of justice' ships..shields went down so fast - I hit SCB - but just too late..I killed two Vipers & get blown up by volley of missiles (never had a chance to scan the remaining ship that killed me!).

Don't get me wrong..the level of the AI is just right..every battle against wings needs 100% attention & no mistakes..& it's great that the AI now miss if you use evasion techniques (because they never used to)..it's just the inconvenience factor that pees me off - one ship would be bad enough, but wings of three!?

Way to go FD..to encourage people to get involved in Power Play..if I wasn't after enforcer cannons, I'd just unpledge!

The PP AI remind me of Cato from The Pink Panther movies!!..always sneaking up on me when I'm concentrating on something else!

I get the feeling that there is something wrong with the Python because most people that complain about getting insta-killed seem to be flying it. I had no such experiences in my Cutter and had no trouble getting away from a Elite FDL today, he did shoot me, but was unable to even dent my 6A Shield backed up by 4 A-Rated Boosters. My 2 Pointdefences went off though, so mybee it was because of the FDL did shoot missiles, still, did not feel threatened and made it savely to the station without further problems.

You should maybee submit a bug report and/or post your exact fittings here so we can have a look at it.

I think Python users are reporting problems more than others because it's hard to fight interdictions in - bad pitch rate, similar to big ships like Anaconda and Cutter - and doesn't have the boosted shields of those larger ships. Combine that with its low boost rate and the new AI, and you've got a recipe for problems.

Please note: I'm not saying the Python is gimped or the situation is totally unfair. I have an A-rated python, and was mauled (but not killed) by an FDL, in 2.1. I'm just pointing out why most of the complaints seem to be coming from Python pilots.

Then add in the # of pythons people are flying that are built for MAX cargo for outpost trade runs - meaning they have small/weak shields - and you have more fuel for the python fire.

I have sympathy for these players. Hopefully they won't lose too much $$$ before adapting (or quitting). I know firsthand how frustrating it can be.

As for the other half - something is seriously wrong with the NPC spawn generator. In 2.0, I rarely ever saw an FDL interdict me; they were in RES sites, flying in cruise, etc. but never came after me much. Since 2.1, they are the vast majority that come after me. During a 12 hop trip, where I was only carrying 9 tons of commodities needed for my engineer mods, I was pursued in 4 systems by 4 different FDLs, 1 pursuit by a python, and 1 by Viper MkIV. Shortly before that, I was killed in a sidewinder by an FDL while I was making an in system hop to outpost to pick up one part (I flew my clipper to the system, not realizing the part was at the outpost and not the starbase, hence the sidewinder taxi); that FDL kill was while I was inspecting an Encoded transmission SS. He just jumped in after I had been there for a minute, said nothing, and blew me up in 20 seconds or less.

So there is something going on with the FDL spawns. For that matter, something seems off with spawns in general. If I'm on a mission (or even 3, worth $1 mill a piece), I'm usually left alone. If I'm just wandering the 'verse, or worse, wandering with a few engineer commodities (which are super cheap) in my hold: ambush, ambush, ambush.

Anyway... just wanted to add what I've seen. Nothing I can't deal with, I don't want the AI nerfed, etc.

So I jump into the game tonight parked at Lembava take some fortification materials and some cargo to a nearby station. No missions.

Soon as I jump to new system - Guy is looking for me trying to interdict me. I emergency stop close to the station to try and buy me some time by boosting far far away from where my wake would be. I recharge drives and I start charging.. .then POOF they appear directly behind me. He should have shown up at my wake km's behind.. well no matter I'm almost fully charged..

Nope. My charge meter stops to a crawl.

Its a Python he's hitting me immediately. I drop chaff immediately continue to boost away. I check he's dangerous python.

I took screen shots while this was all happening. He took my shields down from full to drained in 11 seconds. While I was dropping chaff boosting and trying to get away. (I dont have any SCB's I'm kitted for mining) he gets my hull down to 82% and I manage to jump away.

As soon as I enter supercruise "I've been looking for you"

This is stalking. This is almost comical how bad this game is. Not one ship can go through the highest security area in our Power area without pirates magically following you around every single run.

This was an assassination. No discussion just death. Almost like it was a player that was bored.. but it wasn't.. :) But an overpowered player!

I have encountered this same AI behavior multiple times. Hasn't got me yet in the Python but killed me at least 3X in the ASP and while mining on or the way to mine or on the way back from mining. Nothing sucks worse than losing your 1.5M Rebuy and 2M in cargo trying to grind into a Python so you can get some money so you can get some ships to stay competitive against this AI. Last "Git Gud Group' I was with had the startling insight of "Don't Die" I'll save you the repeat of their wisdom. Wiseass as it may B

Of course even when you submit something like 5-10% of the time you get "FSD failure" and the long spool-up/cooldown count. (though I've also mysteriously "evaded" a couple of other interdictions when I throttled down to submit)

I definitely believe the interdiction mini game is a bugged mechanic, I've seen pursuing ships on the radar instantly jump from one point to another with the escape vector doing the same, I think it's perhaps to do with internet lag.

I've taken some screens my self from this weekend playing. I've always said the interdiction rate in the game is a bit insane from enemy NPCs. Posting them on IMGUR or something soon?

entertainingly, some interdictors can crash themselves into suns, planets, or other large celestial bodies, as well as mysteriously fail on their own.

I'd say approximately 50% (very rough guess as I haven't been keeping track) of interdictions that I've experienced have no warning whatsoever. No tale-tale sounds, no ship on the scanner trying to get behind you; just a sudden interdiction out of nowhere. Its been this way since gamma. I've also seen the occasional sudden jump in the escape vector, and I've had the occasional (very rare) interdiction evaded when I was nowhere near filling up the blue side/emptying the red side.

In the last couple of days, (since the latest patch/fixes for the super-AI weapons) I've lost a python and a type-6 in encounters that I don't feel I could have escaped or won no matter how gud I was.

I lost the python first, in an encounter with another python. Despite repeated boosts he was keeping right up with me and firing the whole time while my FSD is inhibited by factor whatever mass. I think he was "deadly" but I don't remember for sure, I remember deciding to run rather than fight once I'd evaluated him though.

I couldn't afford the insurance on a python a second time so I switched to my type-6, and while doing trade runs to try to get my funds back up got intercepted by a dangerous viper (I am currently "competent"). It killed me in 34 seconds. I made some mistakes while trying to run away (forgot to undeploy and transfer everything to engines) when his first missile (of several) hit me with no warning (what happened to "missile fired" or whatever the wording of that warning is?). If I'd done everything right, maybe I would have lasted a minute. Maybe the cops would have showed up by then, but that would have been my only hope.

34 seconds seems really long in text form, but in battle, it was something like, okay, target enemy, deploy, start kill warrant scan, what is he? dangerous viper, hm.. no warning missile explodes right in front of me, max out thrust, boost, fsd, missile explodes (approx. 2 seconds after the previous missile) sheids gone, hull something like 58%, what is that message about can't start fsd charge because I didn't undeploy? canopy explodes, try to boost again, ship explodes...

I guess, basically, I'm complaining that the matchmaking isn't (sometimes) creating fair fights. (yes, I know life isn't fair, but this is a game). Not saying it should be easy, but survival should at least be possible. In the past I've had plenty of insurance deductibles paid where I was upset, but I knew I did something wrong or got too ambitious and could have survived, but the last few (mostly during the "Skynet" period, but then these last two since that was supposedly fixed), where I don't feel that way.

At least the type-6 insurance claims are (relatively) cheap.

A rated Python shields, and shield boosters.

Just took off from a station as I cashed in some missions for mining. I was kitting for mining with some weapons. I hit supercruise to hit another station very close.

Instantly interdicted by a FDL. I submitted. I boosted away immediately full speed. He was far at the full range of my radar I was going to get away easily as usual. Nope - LONG RANGE I start getting hit with multicannons ! Yeah Multicannons from KM's away. Thats not the funny part. He said something along the lines of "you must die" didn't want cargo or anything like that.

So 15 seconds later.. yep 15 seconds my shields are gone, my hull is pulverized and I'm dead 10 more seconds later. I did try some evasive at the end to buy time to jump out but

That was insanely overpowered. No questions asked an NPC jumped in and killed a python that fast.

I lost hours of mining I was going to cash in. No biggie I can do it again but there is something awfully wrong here.

When I was in beta I kitted a FDL and fought with it in res zones. It was NOWHERE NEAR this powerful! No way in hell you could take a Python's shields down that fast at that range and kill it in under 30 seconds.

Something is fishy. I'm thinking occasionally they send out instant death NPC's for people.

Either that or something is SERIOUSLY broken. THE NPC's were tough in beta but nowhere near this deadly.
and video proof of this claim ? no really because i dont believe a word of what some posters are positng and it has been proven many time what people think happened very rarely matches what really happened so no video no proof

One ship that I would never, ever, ever fly post 2.1 is Python

- weak shields
- weak hull
- gets outmaneuvered by every single NPC maybe except T9
- cant escape its slow
- gets masslocked by bigger ships
- its extremly expensive (price/performance)

Ships I would not fly post 2.1
Python, T6, T7, T9, Cobra mkIV, viper mkIV

Everyone of these threads is the same, I will paraphrase it in to 5 short lines,
I am flying a slow trade ship,
I am interdicted by a faster ship,
To escape I do not try any evasive maneuvers or use any chaff,
I fly in a straight line boosting, (most with 4 pips in engines which mean 2 in sys at most),
The faster ship can shoot me when I fly in a direct straight line and I don't think this is fair.

I tested last night in a T9 and escapoed every interdiction, think I had 5 all together and only 1 got me below 2 rings of shield, in nearly all cases here the problem lies between chair and keyboard.

This and this kind of other threads made me realize something in the past few days.

Apparently I am member of an elite club of godlike players.

A club, members of which can not only ace any and every situation the game can throw at them in a starter sidewinder but also will the game code itself to spare them the bugs and inconveniences which plague the miserable, average masses.

Thanks for helping me realize my incredible skill and giving me the appreciation of my status above that of the common man, undoubtedly spoken upon me and the likes of me, who are but few, by the one and only, our Lord DBOBE (I kneel before his greatness).

To those less fortunate; do not be dismayed! I will pray, with my kindred, that your pleas be heard and acted upon swiftly. His Mercy is boundless and His Glory is bountiful. Do not heed the words of naysayers, for their ways are evil and therein lies endless suffering. We will pray, The Pure and The Chosen will pray that you too, without delay, be elevated to the ranks among men that you undoubtedly deserve. Blessed so, neither disappointment nor inconvenience will bother you no more, welcomed by a galaxy of fair souls, where bugs are rare and far between and interdictions are mere acts of kindness to spread His Light and His Word. May no more spend plutonium slags cast forward through electromagnetic rails be thrust upon your shields! Believe, and you shall receive! Pray, and you shall be rewarded! For DBOBE, may His Blessing be upon us, wished upon me to deliver this message in my sleep; Fly safe Commanders!

Amen

Tl;DR: This is obviously a joke, your lack of humor if you take it seriously.

I got pulled last night in my mining conda, wasn't kitted for fighting as you can guess.

Long story short, I have around 850-860 shields. npc dropped them faster than a hookers pants, about 3-5secs.

Was it fun Yes was it scary heart beat was up was it overpowered just a little

- gets masslocked by bigger ships

This would be true of any ship though, right? The real question is can it boost away fast enough to get out of masslock without getting destroyed in the meantime (and the answer appears to be 'no' based on my experience with it so far).

Serious question:

Why people, including you, insist on trying to re-enter supercruise after an interdiction? If you jump to another system, and it's known as 'high waking', mass lock doesn't happen.

Is it because you don't know this, or is it too much of a hassle to hit 1, go up in the list, up again, press space twice when you are on a nearby system and then jump there?

I'm genuinely curious because since mass lock isn't an issue when high waking, why don't everyone do it?

Edit to add:

No, it doesn't take longer in the long run because if you try to low wake;

1. You might die, costing you more time,
2. You might and probably will get chain interdicted.

Why risk it?

Or just fly defensively until the masslock has ended, I don't understand the mentality that flying in a straight line is a good way to avoid being shot?
