Elite Dangerous is Done For

This must be Thursday's comedy thread of the day. I can see it getting to 10 or more pages soon.

To answer your question.

No the game is not dead. Where is any evidence that players are deserting. A few rage quits on here, a forum where very few of the total Elite community ever posts to (90:9:1 rule, thats Brett for reminding me of that), is not a valid sample.

The other games you mention are not even released, and also do not replicate what Elite gives you.

And the OP can't be serious about SC. It's looking more like Duke Nukem in Space, with its endless delays.

I am seeing more commanders online, post 2.1, and a number of my friends have picked up the game again, after taking a bit of a break. Anecdotally at least, "the sands of time" appear to be running alright - backwards. Frontier must be hating that. :)

Every major update, folks are claiming Frontier have to undo all the changes or the end of the world will happen, and yet - it doesn't.

Star Citizen?! Aren't most of the players in that gonna have fully upgraded modded ships that they paid a ridiculous price for? Good luck being a n00b in that game when it releases, or at least be prepared drop some serious cash to stand a chance at surviving... The flight mechanics also suck in that game, trust me...

No Man's Sky? Scan plants, gather materials and information? Sound similar? And pretty much do that all on your own..

Unlikely really. From a personal standpoint, I got bored with the game for quite a while. I'm back now after over 3 months not touching it and enjoying it more than ever. And I didn't even have horizons! Until today, but my luck: I bought the season pass, watched the tutorial videos on youtube (because I've not been exposed to anything about Horizons so had no idea what I'd be doing), went to fire up the game and the servers are down for maintenance lol.

I doubt this game is going to die. I think it gets better with every update.

Okay, so here's the facts. Frontier is losing large portions of their community by the day. Their forums aren't a place to have "discussion" anymore, it's a place for complaining.

Forums are like that since Beta 1 in 2014 May.

Elite is currently a grind hell that is mind numbing boring and is just not what a game should be.

It is most relaxing yet entertaining game I have played. And I tend to play a lot of games these days. Your opinion might differ of course.

There are arriving titles like No Man's Sky, Star Citizen etc that appear they will blow them out of the water. Star Citizen is far deeper and contains much more content even in its early stages.

I don't think I have answer on such obvious twist on facts. SC doesn't even come out till end of 2017. It won't have all things they hinted at 1.0. SC style still looks pretty boring if you ask me. Deep? It doesn't have even proper gameplay yet, everything's pre-alpha. That's 4 years into making. Yeah right.

NMS will take some people away from ED, but I suspect some of them will come back. NMS is very different beast and it is not one to one replacement of ED.

So what's your guys opinion, do you think Ed has a chance in the same pond as these other titles? Personally, I'm calling it an officially dead game within a litte over a year.

Nonsense. ED is there for 1.5 year now and it has been successfully sold on two platforms, and haven't seen even PS4 release yet.

After 2000+ hours... I'm losing interest in ED, so I have to agree with OP.

Having said that... I'm a premium beta and I still think ED was a good investment.

Well, that being said. Its not many games you can play for 2000+ hours and still come back to. I´m a big fan although I am 38 years old and have a life and woman to love. But I always come back to E.D :) We are still getting more updates and stuff. If we just could interact more with commanders and build something. People would stop complaining. With 1.person interaction, landing on planets with atmospheres and being able to maybe build something. Even a small outpost or station. Elite will become bigger and bigger. But with a big galaxy comes big ideas of grandeur and expectations. It takes time to quench these expectations. Be patient. :) Give Frontier time to work on 2.2 now and just play the game.

No man's sky is only on PS4. sony bought it. When star citizen is released even the first portion. YES ED will loose most of it's player base. Soooo many will deny that, but when SC is finally actually working (if they get it to work lol) they know they will be playing SC. ED is soooo basic and still has very little content. Not to mention if FD continues on this track it might be a MMORPG lol. Seriously ED is just a place holder for most; waiting for the first major part of SC. It would not be, if FD were to get serious and add more real content and add a completely new mission system that was fun. And more obviously. Hell if you think about it the advertising video for ED in the kickstarter showed a great scene and made it look fun. BUT You can't even do what that original video was advertising lol. It's not even in the game. FD will ultimately loose way too many if they don't start actually focusing on adding believable realistic sim style content and gameplay with immersive missions. Because right now.......I still feel like i'm playing the Alpha. Just look at the hud for an example. inside the stations, inside the ships. Everything is cut and past throughout the whole galaxy. Not enough differences.

What are you basing this on? I have a friends list that is several hundred players long. Since 2.1 dropped, I have to turn off my friend makers on the galmap just to navigate. Before 2.1, I had maybe 3-7 friends on at any given time. Gotta say, 2.1 is a huge hit. I am even experiencing lag for the first time, and running into random people in obscure systems fairly regularly, some even in Deep Space! Hopefully Frontier upgrades their servers to compensate for the heavy traffic!

Heh after spending not far off 100 days in the game, you can very well say that you got your moneys' worth, & it's entirely understandable that you might want to play something else, if only for a while before coming back to this lol

It's crazy how people always think that a game has "failed", or is "dying" when they either don't like it, or they lose interest in it over time, or because the devs change the mechanics, as per our OP here. That is very rarely the case, and it's your *preference*, not a universal truth. You're welcome to like, or not like any game you want. Just don't be so attached to *your* preferences that you think they are valid for everyone else :)
