I can probably see why he crashed, the planet Gravity was 2.66g's. I myself lost 28% hull when I landed.

A whole 2.66G? Wow be careful out there. :p :D

With all the excitement about the new barnacles.. what happened to the convoy with the unknown probe? I'm starting to think it was a false alarm!

I dont think so. Im searching for a convoy in the regions previously spotted. I will try to follow them all the way to their destination. I think the UA though of the same origin had nothing really to do with the Barnacles.

reading back to pleiades for more field infos. All the candidate planets I found in IC nebula are way too hot.

Utopian Enforcer Exploratory Mission:

Some pictures I took in the heart of the Barnard Loop Nebula before leaving for the california Nebula and then back to the bubble to upgrade FSD with bucks of exploration data and materials.

No dangers discovered. Explorers still completely safe.

I've been playing around again with a known barnacle location, this time I had to try several locations as I was looking for a destroyed barnacle in the dark side, and the results are.. meh..

So, a destroyed barnacle in the shade is hardly noticeable at 500mts when fully stopped and staring at it. It has a small light emission that barely illuminates enough to make it visible at fast speeds. However the same barnacle also reflects the light, and this reflection can be seen from 4km, what means to me that it is easier to spot barnacles flying the canyon with the star at some point between your line of sight and right on the top of the ship.

Just to mention, I still haven't discovered a single barnacle on my own, but I've been testing these with the existing barnacles and seems reliable to me.

Oh, also, as a quick reminder for when I was locating existing barnacles, looking at the bearing:
000 to 090 alt-- long--
090 to 180 alt++ long--
180 to 270 alt++ long++
270 to 360 alt-- long++

I find it easiest to stop them flying at about 2km with my nose pointed 45 degrees down boosting using upward and forward thrust to keep the alititude. Can look around left and right while travelling down canyons looking like this too.

Nice finding!! congratulations. This one is even more interesting.. is this in the middle of nowhere? not even close to a canyon!!

Thanks, in fact it is in a great valley, crossed by 3 canyons, looked like valleis marineris on Mars. I got in one canyon, and followed the valley to a large canyon at the end, its on a large flat zone in the canyon.

I'll do some more screenshots...

Ugh, don't have stats for Pleione 11a either.

Main thing I'm trying to find out is whether or not Merope 5c is an outlier or not. If you take it out, all the other planets so far (except the ones I don't have the pictures for) "fit" a lot better.

definitely. looks like merope barnacles were handcrafted, or there is much more than what we know.

A large view of the location on the barnacle on California Sector : the ship is pointing to the barnacle, on the large canyon on the right in shape of.... aaahh spider ?

Excluding observations that dont fit your theory will get your biscuit rations totally canceled
I'm curious as from MB's hints I got that there were some permanent hand-placed barnies and the others would be RNG based - yet it seems everything we've found is permanent.

Does this mean they are ALL permanent and placed automatically by the PG galaxy according to a rule like Jmanis is finding, or that the permie ones we're finding are hand placed but there are others we've not seen that are non-permanent? Or is the Merope one hand placed and the vast majority of others according to the rule and all permanent?
