VR with glasses?

Hi guys, assuming a 1070 is good enough for VR, I'm willing to look into it, as there's a good chance I'll be upgrading to that card later this year.

What I would like to know, is if VR becomes problematic to someone wearing glasses?

Not sure what details you might need, so any questions you have on my eyesight, please ask below.

Cheers.

I've got a Vive and glasses, and I can play with them no problem. I also had LASIK done twelve years ago, so I can play without them if I have to, but the Vive fits comfortably with my glasses on.

Mostly, I wear my glasses for astigmatism. I don't have a particularly strong prescription for the small amount of farsightedness I have. I can wear my Vive with my glasses comfortably, but it is a bit of a pain to take on and off the headset. I've found that the image quality is just fine if I don't wear my glasses. Depending on your prescription, you might be able to get away with that as well. Hopefully stores near you will start to get demo units.

I can use my glasses with the Rift without much issue (it does complicate taking the unit on and off your head a bit), they are thin lens wireframes. My GF can use her thicker uglier glasses without much issue as well :p

I have a CV1..... small glasses will be fine however mine are *just* too big.... they are not big glasses either, but I do have a large bonce so i guess are wider than some.

(yet another opportunity for me to moan that when i preordered it was with the promise of a separate insert included for free to accept glasses).

If you wear glasses, the only real choice is the Vive.

The Rift just won't fit them comfortably, and if they were so small that you could even get them in the Rift, it's likely you have such a slight prescription you could do without them anyway.

Not true.
It depends on the size of your glasses. Mine are 13cm across at the widest point and 3 cm vertical. I have no problem at all wearing them under the Rift. It isn't even a difference comfort wise. And I have a rather big head.
Wider frames than that might be problematic. In vertical size there still seems to be a lot of room at the bottom.
There is no direct correlation between prescription and the width of your glasses so prescription is irrelevant.

If you don't need glasses to read a book (short or near sighted), then you can do without them completely in the Vive and you can have the lenses as close as possible for the best experience.

Well, mine are 12.7 cm x 2.7 (Oakley Toast), and don't fit. And everyone I know who's tried my Rift/Vive, hasn't been able to get the Rift to fit. I've also done trade show demos with both, and I've never managed to get people with glasses into the rift without discomfort, but no problems on the Vive.

Caveat Emptor.

That´s not true

What you do with the rift or any VR device is actually to focus on distance, i have miopy, without my glasses i can see very precisely anything i have in front of my nose, but to see what's going on far away from 50cm i need to put my glasses on,

Without them in the rift, i just see everything blurry as it happens in the real life, doesn't matters screens are in front of your eyes... the lenses move everything away from you.

The Rift's focus distance seems to be at infinty (according to various sources). So it's the short-sighted that need glasses, not the other way round.

I couldn't find any reliable information about the Vive's focus distance but it's certainly more than "book reading" distance (there are contradictory claims ranging from 75cm to infinity).

It's frustrating that none of the HMD vendors publish proper specifications about their optics. I'm also missing information about the lenses' material and coating, that would help to find a suitable cleaning method.

Ah, now that's a game-changer for me. I'm long-sighted, so from what you're saying, I should be fine?
