Another one bites the dust... Goodbye Elite

Everyone wants the T5 upgrades to feel special and have an edge over their fellow CMDR's... Except if they were easy to get, you'd all have them and then non of you would be so special! I find this to be hysterical.

Anyway OP, take a break, wait for Frontier to cave in and make T5 stuff easy to get rendering it totally pointless as everyone will have the same gear. By this time I also expect the cries of the AI are to easy to be back due to everyone having pink pewpew lasers of death.

And for those of you thinking the crafting to get the top gear is a grind... Play wow and learn to craft top gear items there - you currently have it so easy in this game.

Th eone point I am totally with is the way rares spawn. It is truly . And keep in mind - rares are rare in the bubble, not at the source, becaus eonly one place makes them - hence why they are cheap locally, and expensive far away form their source. Now, I'm not condoning unlimited purchases, but a bit of respect for the players time, and having your full allotment being purchasable straight up would be kind of a nice thing for FD to do.

It's a typical case of something being too good (which it truly was, like the first incarnation of the Python), then being not simply hit with the Nerf Bat™, but smashed to Pluto with it (also like the original Python), then ignored forever.

Yes, not perfect, I know, and I love the game, and will play on regardless, as I truly enjoy it (regardless of the flaws), but some things do need a re-visit, and I'm sure adjusting rare spawns is fairly low down on the complicated list.

Of course, a way to trade with other CMDR's would actually help this out a little...

"Hey, yo CMDR!"
"Yup?"
"Can I haz yo' Brandiez - will pay 75% of full price"
"Make 85% and you got deal"
"Blargh.. Okayz yo, done!"

*trade mechanism that allows money to be swapped for cargo, and fast cargo transfer, not scooping...

Z...

I have to agree. Rares should be revised, the change comes from a time when every other profession didn't give you any money. This has changed over the last year, maybe it's time to make them interesting again, even if I don't like to talks about credits / hour...

The thing is... He has good points about the stuff that should get fixed or revised. But he also asked for 'can I have your stuff' posts. Most people are just joking, I don't think anyone is attacking OP here.

I think it's very interesting that people feel the have less after 2.1, when in fact they got more. Maybe it would be better if the Engineers didn't exist, so people would see all the glory that came with 2.1.

Completely agree - if someone explains why they are going and are rational about it then FD can see if it was something that warrants changing as it could be indicative of more to follow.

Op had valid reasons.

There was a bug in the launcher that kept keeping me from even starting the game.

Added to some bug report, tried to narrow it down as good as possible, "looking into it" was the only update in the thread, iirc.
2 weeks later it worked again miraculously. Guess someone was looking into it.
If a random bug shatters your enjoyment of software, stay away from computers, or it will be a very shattering life.

Option b: only get mature software that had it's bugfinding cycles (I don't even bother with a Microsoft OS before Servicepack 2 or the next Version being published) - so wait til the end of the season to get the expansions. ^^

Option c: stick to systems that left the market before internet broadband was available (after that, "going gold" became the synonym for "bananaware"). There's a lot of good Playstation 1 titles to be had.

Hey Cmdr give it another go. Dont focus on this "engineers" crap it is uterly useless. Do what you did before, and enjoy that. You did do that did you not ?
Get back in the pilot seat and do other stuff :) , Leave this behind you.
I completely understand your frustration from your ok rant post , I do feel the pain of lost time to nothing.
Give it another go, and leave this 2.1 RNG bug fest alone.

Cheers Cmdr's

While I can understand that someone wants 200 tonnes of X product it IS completely insane that someone would want 200 RARE products.

It's ok if it was a multiple of DIFFERENT product but this is just punishing and not very rewarding.

I mean, it's not just the time required to unlock said engineer but THEN we need to find the materials.

To me Engineers is no end-game goal but rather to have fun with builds, this sucks ALL the fun out of it.

one of her requirements are 200 Lavian Brandy. At first it was very frustrating as I could only get a quantity of 1 every 10 mins

I can't believe you even attempted this, I've just assumed it's a bug/typo and it'll get fixed because there's no way I'm doing that grind. Sometimes you can feel much happier about a game if you just decide there's parts you don't care to play.. If it isn't a bug, I'm not doing that bit, it's that simple.

To make a long story as short as possible for anyone that even cares. After doing a lot of work gaining rep to unlock Marco Quent I found out there is a bug where I cant unlock him. This means I also cant get Prof Palin or lvl5 engine upgrades (which many other cmdrs can). This is obviously frustrating as others not only have an advantage over me, but I put in a lot of work for nothing. FD is pretty much ignoring the issue under bug reports despite of many complaints (currently probably complained about more than any other bug) and two weeks after launch, not even a word about it getting fixed or at least an update of why its taking so long, or a temporary fix, basically just deal with it, too bad so sad.

Either way I decided to chill out and cut my loses and just move on to the next engineer. Started doing Didi Vatermann (that didnt sound right), one of her requirements are 200 Lavian Brandy. At first it was very frustrating as I could only get a quantity of 1 every 10 mins. Finally after doing about 15 one at a time, I was able to get a quantity of 2. As you can imagine this takes forever and the kicker is, once you have 10 in your cargo hold, no more will spawn at that station. So its not just a lot of waiting, but many deliveries. I've actually been doing nothing but this for days now and finally got to 178 out of 200 and then it just stopped. No more brandy spawning at all, zero. Not 1 in the last 8hrs, tried everything. Switching ships, doing missions and getting my rep up, logging in under solo/open/private, but nothing works... Its no longer even listed as a commodity at that station showing its stock at 0, its just completely missing. Dejavu of Marco Quent, I just put in a ton of work and once again like some sick joke, one foot from the finish line FD places a brick wall. Frustration doesnt begin to explain the feeling Ive had today. This just isnt right and I wont even bother with bug reports, I know I wont get any help there. And who knows maybe tomorrow another quantity of 1 will spawn, like a dangling carrot on a stick, urging me to go on, but for the first time, I just dont care anymore. Maybe because I asked a simple question. Why am I spending my free time doing something that ends up making me angry and frustrated?
You make some valid points. The problem with the "bring me 200 of these that you can only get 10 of at time with a 60 minute cooldown" is that it's simply a time sink. There's no skill involved, it's no more difficult to get hold of these commodities than any other, you just have to spend a *long time* doing it and that's not fun. If there's some sort of Engineer progression, it should be *harder* to unlock better ones, not just take *longer*. I really hope that Frontier are listening on this because it doesn't just apply to Engineers, it applies to the game as a whole.

To make a long story as short as possible for anyone that even cares.

I can understand the frustration from what you describe.
This Lavian Brandy thing for Engineers is a big mistake.
I have no doubt this will be addressed.
I admire the fact that you even tried to acquire those 200 Lavian Brandy.
Personally I won't even try. Not ever. I think these are absurd unpleasant requirements that will only make me hate the game.
Not gonna do it.

So for now goodbye Elite, I might come back and visit again, but for now its over. Dont call me, Ill call you. Cue the pleasant "see ya wouldnt want to be ya" replies, and the "can I has your stuff?" (I wouldnt expect any less :D)... In all honesty I really did enjoy Elite and certainly got my moneys worth, the game owes me nothing. I also especially had a great time on this forum and good conversation with some of the cool people that frequent it, thanks for all the good times, see you all.

Nobody forces you to do the Engineers thingy

Forum has gone downhill when the responses to an explained 'good bye' post all attack the OP with one liner / put downs. Used to be friendly around here ...

Maybe its because people get tired of listing to nonconstructive goodbyes. I've take a break by playing Cities Skylines, because I needed to do something else. Should I make a post proclaiming that I took a break? Maybe I'm doing it all wrong around here?

No matter how many warts this games has, its still the only BDSSED around in this galaxy.

Oh dear. It's like Frontier wernt ready for Cmdr's to get this far so soon?
everybody is dropping like flys recently. :(
Flimley

There should be a subforum for quitting people and their stories. Why clutter up the general forum with such threads? No one cares that the game offended you by simple mechanic of dependence between system state and production.

Why am I spending my free time doing something that ends up making me angry and frustrated?

Because you chose to do it?I doubt that game forces you to haul that brandy. I didn't do any engeneer upgrade yet (only tested advanced thruster @ farseer)... sry I'm to busy having fun. Also could you stop making other people angry and frustrated by not tellin the whole community that you are quitting (who cares). Because it's waste of time to have to dig through all this to get to some more interesting threads.

Quitting instructions:

1. (optional) Go to suggestions or bug forums to make a suggestion and report a bug.

2. DO NOT write another thread in general forums about quitting the game.

3. .

It's that simple.

Only the blinkered cannot see the problems within the OP and the direction the game is going............

I'm pretty sure that developers'd love to know the reasons behind anyone leaving their game, in other to analyze the feedback and further improve their product.

But not in this forum, no... Let's instantly bash every goodbye post -even if written civil and politely- and let's encourage people to leave the game in silent.... Yeah, seems a pretty smart move.

I'm certain about one fact, though. Elite Dangerous will become exactly the game this community deserves, nothing less.... and nothing more.

Hey Slack,

It would be a shame to see you leave dude. Just out of curiosity, why did you bother with Didi Vatermann? It's clear the requirements are screwed up, the devs need to leave rare goods out of these requirements, I reckon they will change it with one of the updates.

Lei Cheung offers the same upgrades, only requires 200 tonnes of gold & a invite from The Dweller. The Dweller is easy to rank up with, just do a few low level power distributer upgrades with him and trade commodities. Trading with these engineers unlocks higher ranks.

Edit - My plan for a level 5 FSD upgrade (Am using Felicity Farseer) I got myself to LVL-4 quite quickly, just did normal upgrades, for level 5 I'm going to spend a few days out enjoying NGC 7822, take the scan data back to her.

You could always head to the nearest Neutron field, pretty much the fastest way to get to level-5.

I think there are some sensitive people out there - I can't see any bashing going on and the replies reference the humour in the OP, in the spirit it was meant. I for one got as far as grinding landmine quotas and had enough at 7t per go - how anyone could persevere at 1t every 10mins for Lavian V.S.O.P. I have no idea. I just went off and did some other stuff instead - got a nice "tipoff" from the Anthill Mob, who sent me an encryption key and some co-ordinates on a random planet - found a load of wrecked ships and scanned £1.8M CR of data from a data core there. Much more fun and a bit of an adventure too !

P.S. can I has your bobble head ? and don't let the door hit you on the way out !

To the OP: so Sirius permit is bugged and last weekend i fly over 10k Ly to have the chance to unlock thruster lvl5 engineer. Not my smartest move.
