before 2.1 nothing near barnard's loop was permit locked

After 2.1 a number of sectors between witch head nebula and horsehead nebula and beyond if you're going from witch to horse in a line are now locked. Barnard's loop has never been "locked" You can still traverse it even now and the same sectors that were locked at 2.1 around it are sill locked now.

I'm interested in going barnacle hunting for the foreseeable future, so I was wondering: how do you find new barnacles? I know most of them show up in deep places, like craters and canyons, but do they appear as points of interest from above, or do I have to visually look for them by flying right along the surface?

Barnacles don't show up as POI's you have to either spot them from orbit (+/- 2 km or lower from surface) or spot them on the raar of your SRV, they have a specific signature on it. If i were you I would get to a confirmed Barnacle spot first and note how it looks on your SRV radar and from the sky before attempting to search for them

I've seen plenty of them in both forms, was just hoping there would be a faster way than visually checking every nook and cranny, thanks though :)

as a matter of fact i am somewhat on my way there. I noticed the strange star placement as well as i was planning my way to Sig A. gonna pop by and see what is what. barnacles?

not necessarily barnacles... i would go there to understand why those stars are in those positions.
To see what kind of systems are they.
To see if those stars are something of very rare and why.

in few words, if you go there please report anything, any kind of info about those stars, if you can.

Hey all,

I've found an interesting Unidentified Signal Source - jumped in, and this is basically what I saw. The message was sent as soon as I approached, and I've been there for roughly 5 minutes, only one rogue pirate attack so far.

Hiya Commanders:

Meta-Alloys are currently available at Darnielle's Progress in the Maia system. But having heard a rumor that the Barnacles seemed to be "bleeding", I decided to take the trip to Merope 5 C to actually see for myself. You know, up close and for screenshots. I was joined for the search by CMDR Zusagid (who actually did most of the spotting ). The placement of the Barnacles were well documented, so we headed to the coordinates provided. [-26.3496, -156.4044 ]. I began by cursing the dark-side approach, but I think without the darkness, the noticeable glow of the barnacle would not have been seen. Blue against the darn red in the distance, there it was.

Upon reaching the site, a Viper immediately appeared, warning us to keep our nose clean. There were 3 to 4 skimmers patrolling the barnacle site. A trespass zone was in effect. This was something I hadn't seen others deal with. After the skimmers had been eliminated, we took the SRVs closer.

All the formations were intact. The glow from the central structure seemed to be more evident than I have seen when others visited. It looked to spread out in rays from the center beneath the ground.

There also seemed to be flickers of blue, like fireflies in the darkness. Taking a closer look at one of the spikes, some of the pods seem to have "bloomed". This was the source of the fireflies in the dark. Emerging from the open pod were what looked like blue fireflies. Streaming out and away trailing what looked like pollen. If it's pollen, what is it pollinating? If it's fruit, what will it be when ripe?

There was one more site in the area to check. The wrecked Anaconda site. [ Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 1 Coordinates: 20.8259, 91.7045 ]. There was supposed to be several barnacle sites in the vicinity of the crash, possibly the cause. Upon entering the system, I realized that I was not able to scan the planets. No matter how close, no scan. I will have to return to see if it is just a momentary glitch.

There it was, buried in the ground. You would think and impact great enough to bury 50 percent of an Anaconda would make a sizable crater. Following the path the ship would have flown backward, CMDR Zusagid and I found the next barnacle site. It was ruined. All spires were broken but that did not diminish the glow underground from the central structure. I also did not know that the center could be targeted and scanned for data. More and more interesting.

Well there seems to be many more sites found by others. Maybe I will be able to check out a few more or find my own before they rise from the ground to claim us all [alien] Stay safe out there Commanders. Check your ships carefully. Be sure not to bring back one of those little glowing blue fireflies. They may be watching, monitoring, growing ^_^

That's all for now from CMDR OutpostAntara9
... transmissions from the Outpost have ended ...

I'm talking 1.0/1.1 times. I'll need to do some googling when i get home but I'm confident there was locks on horse head then.

i found this site as a great help for understanding the SRV's wave scanner.

Presuming they are actually spawning.

What if Merope is the breached, the UA design to secure the beachhead and scan who entering and exiting it.
The barnacles are deployed to secured resources
unknown probes are deployed to search for resources.

Then the unknown probes would at the next nebula that the Barnacles will infect.

what are the three nebulae that the Barnacles have been found in, Pleiades, Horsehead, Bernard Loop,

if that's the case, cone, butterfly, or Thor Nebula might be logical choices to check out for unknown probes, if my theory is right, an my theories are never right!

Pleiades, California and Withhead. Those are the three nebulae.

I was at WitchHead, Orion, and Bernards loop. Heres what I know about what systems are locked:

Between Pleiades and Witchhead there are locked systems. You can get through but it is very tricky. Between Witchhead and Orion there are locked systems as well. Right after Bernards Loop there are more locked systems.

Almost every system inside "The Triangle" is locked.

I spent a week searching in the one and only system in the Hind Nebula. About 4 hours per planet. I did not find any barnacles.

I still suspect that the symbol on these barnacles represents the 3 nebulae where they are found and the locked systems in "The Triangle" are it's origin. We will know once those are unlocked.

The main leads right now are Merope... Merope.... Merope... and Merope...
I also suspect that the Devs are not caught up with us. We are waiting on them. Just my theory though.

I have been to the battleship in Merope 2A. There are literally fleets of ships protecting the barnacle's area. I had to sneak in underneath them to get at the barnacle. The barnacle is fully functional. No one has tampered with it as of last night.

i insist:

there is something strange in the eagle nebula

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTrMPWjg3Q0&feature=youtu.be

these stars are in strange positions

a glitch/bug ?
intentional ?

it seems to me like a message of some kind, like a DNA code or a word composed by some alien runes.

i am very tempted to go there... but 8000 yl.. it's a looooong trip.

Those are real-life stars imported into the game from a catalogue. They look weird because their distribution doesn't match the distribution that the procedural generation code would generate and also because of accuracy and rounding issues with the data (that's why they are in discrete planes). There are plenty of other examples of this, for example there are lanes of stars towards Barnard's Loop and going just past California Nebula that also look weird.

I really doubt there is some clue or secret code. Sorry.

Does the fact that Barnacles have two have two nektonic (active swimming) larval stages mean our Space Barnacles are related to UA's and Unknown Probes?

Probably not. Just because these things are called "barnacles" by us doesn't mean they have anything in common with real-life barnacles.

Basically it's since 2.1 dropped, and yes we don't know who they belong to. If the Merope 2a one had skimmers in addition to the Capship, then Fed would seem to be a good shout - but it isn't; so they ain't :)

Unless the capital ship is there installing defenses. If it disappears and some skimmers turn up, then we'll know.

8 different capital ships for 4 days later.. how many feds are needed to drop a skimmer? #justfedsthings

It would only take one if we didn't keep running them off

Seems to me that the different names are just the way the game is implemented: they get a random name each time an instance is created. So I'm not attributing anything to that from a story point of view.

well, from a story point of view doesn't make sense they were there 4 days to drop some skimmers at the end. they had enough time the first moment they were discovered before they were attacked.

I'm really wondering if it could be possible for the devs to add a bit of persistency into the mix because that kind of thing is killing it from an immersive standpoint.

Not talking about right now, but 1.0/1.1 days. For example, California nebula and bubble nebula both had locked systems 'back in the day'. Original question was asking for a timeline about locked regions. Pretty sure areas around horsehead and barnards were locked originally, then became unlocked around the time of wings or PowerPlay, then got locked again in 2.1 as per the dev fix 'some region permits weren't working'.

Can't pull info on that right now, but if you look for bubble nebula permits you might find info on that and subsequent posts about barnards and horsehead. I'm certain enough about bubble nebula and California as i reported the permit reqs has been removed to the permit list thread.

Edit: have a theory about what happened but it's for another time
