Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club and Elite Racers present: Old World Hustle (11th-19th June)

Well done everyone who took part, great race furrycat. :)

Sorry I didn't make it, waiting for the replacement PSU cost me in the end. I spent a few hours on Friday and Saturday gather enough materials for a couple of thruster / fsd rolls each at Felicity's for The Nomad and Spirit of Icarus, and then planned to spend all Sunday afternoon racing.

Unfortunately I was much, much busier than expected on Sunday and ended up where I'd have only had time for a single rushed (and frustrated) attempt, so I gave it a miss. :(

Looking forward to seeing you all at BBRX. :D

Terrific race, thanks again furrycat (sorry I couldn't make the Gwynne last week or you could have had that thanks in liquid form). Congratulations to the winners (presumably cookiehole unless something radical happened at the last minute). I concur with Rankaze's frustration, I defintely had better runs in me. Pretty sure I could have done the regulation in 28:30 and I dare say there was another 7 seconds to be had in the unlimited (but then Rankaze would have been left even more irked). See you guys in the BBRX, just as soon as I get back from Vulture herding on Merope 2A.

This doesn't really do it justice but there are about 10 Federal Vulture's out there standing guard over a capital ship (which seems to be moored about 500m below ground!). The Vulture's are just drifting and, like reluctant sheep, can be persuaded to move if you get close enough to them. Thus it's possible to herd them all into a tight little bundle if you have the time and the inclination.

Oh, and the "buried" capital ship is of course guarding a barnacle site.

Anyway, that's why I'm not currently at BBRX.

The results for Regulation Eagle will be published later. This is because Stern Winter's entry was submitted in time but is not yet available for verification. It is absolutely not because Eagles are harder to mask in Photoshop than Vipers and Sidewinders and I totally would have had time to do it before leaving for work.

Set to public - again! Why does Youtube go out of their way to make it extra difficult for the user ?

EDIT: Not that I would in any way qualify for a podium place :)

If you send me the station clock times for each waypoint I'll add your entry now and verify it later against the timestamps you already sent. I won't be able to review the video until this evening.

La Soeur: 18:50:11
Brett: 18:57:17
End at Lave: 19:01:41

Time: 31:41

Sorry for all the problems.

Thanks, furrycat, for an enjoyable race.

I just wish I could've submitted some more enteries, but I wasn't able to get back home yesterday in time to do one more run. :(

It was definitely fascinating to review my performance on video, which allowed me to spot some flaws in my mass shadow braking technique. I think if I had managed to make it here on time on my previous day off, I might not have had to abort so many runs yesterday due to collisions.

If all goes well, I'll see you all at BBR X. Tonight I need to make that trip to Farseer, Inc, and get rid of that exploration data I've managed to keep. ;)

Quick correction ... surely Kliggish and Ozric should be joint 6th place?

I like your reason for editing the post Alec ;) and thank you for it. 3 racers covered by 2 seconds :D

Thanks so much for hosting this race Furrycat I had a ̶r̶i̶d̶i̶c̶u̶l̶o̶u̶s̶l̶y̶ ̶f̶r̶u̶s̶t̶r̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ great time. If only I could have stuck a fully good run together (story of my racing career) I reckon I could have gotten 4th, but there was no way I could touch the top 3. I really enjoyed flying through all of the various parts of the stations while making the loop around, although I must say that when they're completely in the dark it was much more scary than fun :D

Congrats to all of the podium placers and to Cookie, for winning both... again... when was your race coming by the way :p

See you over at Buckyball X

I think I haven't linked to my final Eagle run yet, so here it is.

Compulsory viewing for serious Buckyballers!

I never tire of hearing that "Slow DOWN commander!" :D

Also, an excellent demonstration of what should henceforth be known as "doing a Patterson".

Edit #1: given that (from his residency at the #1 spot) cookiehole clearly knows what he's doing, it's interesting that he persistently favours overshooting and then looping back around to stations (something I've been trying, probably too hard, never to do).

Edit #2: re: bookmarks, although I picked up on the tip to prefix all my BBRC bookmarks with "0" (so they appear at the top of the list) I went a step further and used "0.1 ...", "0.2 ...", "0.3 ...", etc to get them in the right order.

this was fun I must say;
frustrating and fun do start with the same letter anyway..... :)

great racing guys and congrats to cookiehole for the wins and the great run yesterday to obsidian orbital and back, showing us how it is done!

I have now educated the race-o-matic in the ways of tied competitors. The final table will show Kligg* and Ozric in sixth equal.

much fun as ever. what did I do before Buckyballing?

congrats to cookiehole, and thanks for the video. inspiration and instruction! using numbered bookmarks, lowering my graphics and 'doing a Patterson' all helped shave off a minute and a half. with a fair wind i might have got closer to 28:00 but 27:00 seems an awful long way off!

I'm off to engineer some thrusters and an FSD

Thanks to furrycat for organising a great race (which allowed me to take fourth place!)

After a quiet start, interest in the Open Unlimited class picked up as the event went on.

The Viper Mk III was the most popular ship.

No surprises that the most popular route was Shifnalport, Patterson, La Soeur, Watson, Brett. The second most popular route was ... those same stations in reverse!

Again unsurprisingly, the fastest legs were to Lave and the slowest were to Patterson.

By far the most popular route was Brett, Watson, La Soeur, Patterson, Shifnalport. Twice as many racers flew that route as did it in reverse. There was also some enthusiasm for Shifnalport, La Soeur, Patterson, Watson, Brett.

And now the stats you've been patiently waiting for.

These are AWESOME! Or rather they would be if I could read them. Any chance of hyperlinks to higher-res versions?

Edit: don't worry if not, you've already done too much - they look very nice.
