lol We all want to be able to leave our persistent mark in the galaxy.

But seriously speaking I dont think that Frontier have added that feature. It would require some database work to keep track of persistent POIs, it would be complicated if everyone started doing it.

Good point, I hadn't considered that to be honest. Sometimes I get so caught up in the mystery I.forgot it is after all a game and has limitations. The load could be made manageable though. If they can only be grown on very specific areas on very specific planets in very specific locations in space (nebula), and if were a limit to how many could be placed on any one of the small group of suitable planets.

with the federation capital ships moving in and the expanded areas for this, could discovering them in a 4th or 5th nebula cause Fdev to expand the content around thme a bit further.

somethings had the federation and the empire in a arms race of carrier building of late, which mean what comes next ?? alliance expansion to counter the new threats

your theory is accommodated to whatever is hidding in the locked sectors as the source of the barnacles, and from what we do know (nothing at all) it is pure speculation.

whatever is hidding or coming from sectors COL 69 or 70 may or may not have anything to do with barnacles. what do you mean when you say your theory doesn't have any hole? or saying the logo of the barnacles correspond tonthese three nebulae, I'm having a real trouble imaging this (are there three nebulae drawn in that logo?) considering what the logo is.

but it is a theory after all, we all have to work to prove it right/wrong ;)

Yes I believe that the symbol drawn on the barnacle is three nebulae combined into that symbol. If another barnacle is found outside of the three nebulae we have already found then my theory on the meaning of the symbol is proven false. Just so that you can understand that I am not just wanting to be right, I spent a week, many many hours, trying to find barnacles outside these three nebulae. I spent a long time in Orion, and Hind. I found nothing.

I could be wrong about the secrets being locked away because some of the systems inside that area are open. But I (myself) dont think the story is ready to progress on that end simply because the game content required could potentially not be finished yet. Do we really know if we are not just chasing our own tales waiting for the next step in the story? Or can it be confirmed that the story or puzzle that everyone is trying to solve, is actually solvable right now with the content already made and waiting for explorers and scientists to find? The amount of work required for this task is not worth it imo unless there is confirmation that indeed the content is waiting for discovery.

Barnacles and UAs make very similar sounds. It's far fetched to not assume they have the same technological origin. Also there's the station damage/cure mechanic in place to suggest they are closely related. So, if UAs are Thargoid, then barnacles should also be thargoid or something related in my opinion.

One can draw no conclusions at this point. Only theories. Theories are meant to be disproved.

Nettles and dock leaves aren't closely related but have a perceived damage/cure mechanic.. They often grow in similar places too. Also have to bear in mind that the only shell of UAs we've found so far are around Merope yet barnies exist in other nebulae.

We have to be careful about jumping to conclusions (especially without a mat)

Because of certain rules on these fourms I cant say anything directly. But I CAN tell you that were not waiting for them to continue the story. Everything is there and in place. We just have to find it. What we can wait for is them to push is in the right direction.

2- Barnacles need Nebulae gases to breathe like an atmosphere.
I repeat: source
"Although denser than the space surrounding them, most nebulae are far less dense than any vacuum created on Earth – a nebular cloud the size of the Earth would have a total mass of only a few kilograms. Many nebulae are visible due to their fluorescence caused by the embedded hot stars, while others are so diffuse they can only be detected with long exposures and special filters."

Nebulae are far too thin to support anything.
3- The 3 nebulae where these barnacles were planted are depicted on the symbol found on the barnacle. The three nebula are represented by three shapes that come together to form the symbol. The symbol does NOT represent a single nebula rather three nebulae. That is why the symbol is made of 3 organic shapes.
Can you do a side-by-side image showing how you think each of these nebula match those symbols? The reason you're getting quite a lot of resistance is that they look nothing like those symbols and if you can show how you think they do then you'll get more attention

At the moment it feels like someone's gone "three things - and another three things! they must be the same as there's three of them"

Sorry to raise this again but I think this is important as they were called Barnacles for a reason;

Barnacles in the real world are immobile and last last stage of their life.
They have two pre Barnacle 'mobile' stages.

The first stage is Nauplius where they feed and grow.
The Cyprid stage is not a feeding stage but a stage where it is looking for a suitable place to settle.
They find a good place to feed and stay there (nebula?).

Barnacles cannot leave their shells to mate, To facilitate genetic transfer between isolated individuals, barnacles have extraordinarily long penises. Barnacles probably have the largest penises to body size ratio of the animal kingdom.

Barnacles can also reproduce through a method called spermcasting, in which the male barnacle releases his sperm into the water and females pick it up and fertilise their eggs (UA?????)

This means there is a mobile 'larvae' stage we have not discovered and when found will probably lead us to their origin.
Also if the UA are not sperm then they might be Cyprid stage Barnacle, scanning for a suitable place to settle.

This is interesting and fits with my own "seed theory". How would you feel about me suggesting that the mobile larvae stage is the player, the ship that picks up the UA and transports it?

Wait, but... who named barnacles? I thought it was players who created this name?

...And what if:

Where you put California, I put Witch Head Nebula
Where you put Pleiades, I put Barnard's Loop
And where you put Witch Head, I put Pleiades

...and its a view from above/below of all three nebulae and what we are looking for (the origin) is in the middle of the tree nebulae on the very top/bottom?

Just a tin-foiled though
xD

So, guys...
Lurking in for some time without making any comments, and not accounting for the recent small disputes among wich theory is right or wrong or whatnot about barnacles.

Couple things are striking me about barnacle defenses being sighted here and there : That Farragut battle cruiser and his escort spotted at MEROPE 2A's barnacle is clearly Fed as per IFF Faction displayed on the holo-target information.

Yet, I didn't see any evidence toward skimmers and turrets that were spotted earlier around other barnacle being from any origin at all (Fed, Imp, Alliance or any Corp or Power).
We know that settlements, bases, ruins, wrecks and whatnot have in common to have some markings, logo or brand onto them.
I saw that amazing work community have done on the thread related to wreck POI's, sourcing data around serial numbers and theorizing about them being wich part or other piece of that theorized kind of structure/ship.

My open Question to the Canonneers out there is the following : have we had examined and documented closely those ground defenses and saw if there were any markings / serial / logo of any kind?
And related to that is if the Farragut hovering the MEROPE 2A's Barney having any of them (be those different or alike)?

I would love to help cover that interrogation of mine but I have to say my IRL two-wheeled SRV met the ground pretty hard on a 1g planet lately, leaving the pilot with an injured shoulder, so being stranded at his Imperial apartments with medical interdiction to fly...

How often do we have to say it! Four pips to shields!

Bad luck mate, hope you get well soon - the important bit is can you still fly?

I"m pretty sure that when we found meta-alloys in a stations list it claimed "explorers found them from large barnacles" and that was before anyone had found one

But then it means that ppl on station knew about it... i mean, about barnacle's... right? Or at least the stations systems...

does Pleiades nebula actually look like the form in the picture? is not California way bigger than Pleiades?

why would a barnacle have a logo that points to their origin system and nothing else?

reminds me of Prometheus, where they left clues as drawings of a system to be found, but turned out that it was a super secret hidden military outpost at the very least.

I suppose! Its likely that when someone came along(in this case a plot line) to the station and went "found this weird metal on a planet" and they named it from then on due to how it looked(Attached to the surface like a real life barnacle) It seems the name caught on and has been kept or was on purpose
Its likely that they never knew where it came from though

I have yet to have medical Intel as to when, but I know it's a matter of 4 to 6 weeks.
Do to answer directly, yep but not in the short term.
Thanks for the nice words tho :)

Anyway, expanding on my interrogations...
I didn't really searched for them but I don't recall planetary settlements defense turrets (anti-air or anti-ground) having any markings while I was doing base attacks.
Thus I might send you fellow Canonneers to a potentially dangerous red herring, but I remember clearly ground structures to have some (I'm looking at you all, pre-2.1 millions of POI's with just two structures and a bunch of canisters of tea).

So it might not be as far-fetched interrogation as it seems, and I thought I'd share the thinking :)
