yes but the one in the video does not degrade that only happens when you drop one on a planet, or it's never been scooped up.
Though saying that did they used to degrade when lost from a NPC ship because of cargo hatch damage?
I wouldn't put much weight to that. It seems the UA is there when the instance spawns, so it isnt ejected in game, but probably is in story. The UA is there because of the mission, not the mission because of the UA.

Yes this probably is the case but it may be worth making a note of how far away from Merope these are, just in case they do happen to fall in the right rages.

Must admit i do like the religious side of this could go all manner of directions in future stories.

Yep, for example some kind of strange zombie-building structure may be build somewhere ^ ^. And then we will understand, that the barnacles were just a tool to change our race into servants of death and world eaters~.

And ... i have a question. Do we have any info about any aliens (Thargoids aside) in our galaxy? Or strange events like missing ships? I am talking mostly about older games.

Ok, after thinking about Barnacles, Nebulae and Michaels comment about how they relate to the Barnacles origin I have a headache and a theory:

Some unknown species (probably not Thargoid)... I'll refer to them in the singular, I think I'll call him Paul.

Paul lives somewhere in space that we are not allowd to go (Col Sector 70?). He has some very advanced organic technology that very efficient at extracting rare materials (Barnacles). Paul likes these materials because they can be used to build many things including strong vessels for travelling the stars.

Paul discovered that systems surrounding nebulae are rich in the rare materials he needs to build these ships, so he has been seeding planets around these nebulae with barnacles to extract these materials.

Paul is ambitituous and wants more of these materials, so he sent out probes to scout for other nebulae (Unknown probes - not found yet). A while ago he found a small nebula (The Pleiades) that is rich in the materials he is looking for.

Unfortunately for Paul, his probe also informed him that there are other life forms near the Pleiades. Paul didn't know much about these life forms, but he really wanted the material in the Pleiades. So Paul sent a seed (barnacle) to the Pleiades to start the extraction process) and decided to build thousands of devices to learn more about these life forms (Unknown Artefacts). These devices have been tracking the movements of these life forms and learning about their technology, relaying this information back to Paul.

Paul has learnt that these lifeforms are dangerous and they have hurt many of his devices including his barnacles...

Now Paul is deciding what to do about it....

To be continued...

so far..

Paul really finds his farming useful and valuable. So valuable that he sends thousands of 'artifacts' to monitor the surroundings of his meta-alloy farm. It turns out, that nobody has seen Paul yet, why? because he is too busy switching modes to reset the instance to gather meta-alloys to build thousands of UAs from only 4 or 5 barnacles. He could have planted 200, 400, 1000 in a resource viable area, but no, he planted one here, another one there.. lets risk a 600Ly trip to harvest a barnacle or two, when I could have 300 and do a proper harvest on time.

Paul found it grindy, so he actually left the game before FD had to shut down the business, but first he visited the forum and created his own 'I quite, I'm done' post.

Paul is happy playing Mario kart.

I think it's great. Change the name to Antal and you've really got something.

The morse may come from the bazillion crashed nav beacons we keep bumping into. And to be honest, I don't think FD would have hired a linguist to create a unique alien language just for this mystery, even if it's as important as the Thargoids. Remember when in Stargate SG-1 aliens would always learn English in five minutes? (well, when they didn't already speak it in the first place.)

I've got a question for Qubit though: what did Paul use to send the "seeds" down to these planets?

PS: Great theory.

The theory is nice and I like it.
Anyway the only real question still stands: why Merope?
Unless Paul would really like to "seed" Ms Merope himself, given her well known beauty.......

I have a lead I want to chase down.

Not that it means that much to my lead.. but can someone tell me the date that the first Barnacle was found?

Good question...

It might be one the funcitons of those unknown probes.... to find new suitable locations and plant the seeds...

We will have to find one to find out...
