Explorer could be in big trouble

I set out in my Asp Explorer with the intention of travelling to Sag A* and seeing the sights on the way [up]. All has gone well so far and have travelled 8 KLy since my last pit stop and visited over 500 systems being the first to discover 200 or more as well as scanning neutron stars, waterworlds and earth like. However I have come to a sudden dead end in that there are no systems to jump to, space is empty and full of empty space. There aren't even systems a few hundred light years away on the galaxy map. I think I need to back track and find an alternative route however I used an enhanced FSD jump at one stage and now don't have enough of one of the metals for another so I might be in big trouble. [down] Going to do a bit of surface hunting to see if I can find the metal I need (might be Zinc) - I don't even know if it's possible to find what I am looking for but as this is the only way I can salvage my exploration quest I will have to try. Anyone else encounter a similar problem on their journey of exploration?

I recommend the explorers sub-forum. :)

If you are close to Sag A* then the star density should be very high. If it is not, it means you are most likely very far above or below the galactic plane. You may have to backtrack, that happens to explorers when they push the edges of the galaxy (although I've never heard of it near the core).

Make sure you zoom your galactic map correctly! Also, do you have star filters turned on? Be sure to have all stars showing in the galmap, not just neutron/BHes ;).

I expect that you are quite far above or below the plane of the galaxy.
Head back up or down towards it and things should get easier.

I am actually, deliberate choice to get off the beaten track. Maybe a bit too much.

At long distances between stars, don't use the route finder it doesn't work well. You have to manually plan your jumps one at a time.

You could try a low grade FSD boost (Vanadium + Germanium). Also, running your ship low on fuel will help your FSD range, depending on the size of your tank. Just make sure to jump to a scoopable star if you have to jump on fumes!

Edit: Zinc is fairly common if that is all you need, if you need a level 2 or 3 FSD boost then best of luck to you!
One final idea: Look at your contacts list in your left hand cockpit menu and see the list of systems. It may reveal a system you can jump to that you may have missed in the galmap.

If you're between the galactic arms and above or below the galactic plane then you can find huge bubbles of nothing that you have to go round.

FSD boost obviously doesn't help here. Backtrack , whilst looking for jumponium. If worst comes to worst and you find no mats and can't backtack then call the fuel rats.

/moved thread to exploration sub

___

@OP: this thread is full of good tips: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/266897-I-m-stranded!-No-way-of-plotting-a-route-back

if you don't get on, maybe post your postion, approach the rock rats, or an explorer friendly group - i wouldn't mind jumping over and search for the necessary materials in your jumprange... can be done very effectivly in a group of people.

i'm very positive you can make it back!

Thank you for moving it to the correct sub forum.

Really friendly and generous offer which I may take up if I don't have any success myself. +Rep for your offer Commander.

Might take a while for the Rats to arrive if the ship is a gazillion light years out in the black!

Make sure you turn on all the star types in the map filter. If you've boosted to a system and the only way out is another boost, then you need to hope that any landable planets in the system you're in will yield the mats you need. If they don't then you're stuck and it's game over.

Level 1 boost - vanadium and germanium
Level 2 boost - vanadium, germanium, niobium, cadmium
Level 3 boost - arsenic, polonium, yttrium, niobium

EDIT: what system are you in, we can look on the map and see if we can help that way

Nope, you'd be surprised how quick they can. As example we had a rat go back 10000 LYs to Beagle Point in under 2 days to save dopey "float like a butterfly till I hit the planet " corbin moran :D

I'm ok fuel, tank is full actually. I will see what I can do and regard it as a learning process. At least the asp is still in good condition so all is not lost yet just a slightly concerned pilot [cool][cool][cool][noob][noob][noob][noob][noob][sad][sad][sad][sad]

Ruger, how far away is the closest system you can find? You had to get where you are somehow....

Edit: I don't think any of the rats can help him since they cannot transfer materials :/.

I am in system PLOI AEG GB-0 D6-6. I jumped from PLOI AEG LH-C C-13-0. I have changed the map view to Realistic and see the closest systems are ~ 500 LYr. Funny I couldn't see those last night. I must be doing something wrong with the Galaxy map. Noob in the Asp lol.

Going to retrace a few jumps see if I can locate the Vanadium I need for FSD injection boost.

i was referring to the rock rats, not the fuel rats. basically a group of cmdrs could scout all landable planets for jumponium, so op knows where he can get some.

go to mapview, select all startypes. better for finding out.

500 LY?

Hmm.

This isn't the first time I've heard this story, since v2.1 dropped.

I found that this might be reachable: PLOI AEG KH-C C13-0. from my perspective its 23ly more away than your current system. You should fly down then because your 1466 above the plane ;)
