2.1.03 and explorer safety returning to bubble

I constantly get interdicted by federal assault ships and gun ships and condas with ranks deadly and elite when running trade missions with my python. my ranks are expert, ranger and entrepreneur.
The ships are usually armed with lasers, cannons of all sorts and missiles and my 6A shields with 2x 1A Boosters usually get shot down up to 2 rings when i boost away after interdiction and cost me about 200 x2 point defence ammo (tons of missiles coming my way).
Every now and then i get shot at by plasma or rail gun fire but shields hold for now, tho i tried a few times and don't stand a chance when going for combat in these situations. Those npcs seem to have modded shields that my guns have very little effect on.

I am not sure I feel sorry for all those commanders that played "shooting fish in a barrel" in res and combat zones for CR.
As 2.1 shows you need REAL skill in combat, I hope that remains in 2.1.03.

But regardless the days of explorng without shields seem to be numbered.

Might I suggest missions with high-rank requirements? You'll see a lot of dangerous and very persistent NPCs while flying them. It's quite fun. Unless you're trying to scoop up a handful of free-falling experimental chemicals while being chased by an "I want to reach out and touch someone" Dangerous Annie and its five Eagle friends, a point at which the game became both creepy and exhilarating.

Yup, if you have an active bounty then it can get pretty exciting too. But playing as a criminal isn't really my style. And missions with "psychic" NPCs are not quite the same as the lovely ambient danger of 2.1.01 or even 2.1.02.

Just a fair warning to anyone thinking of going exploring who has had a bounty since 2.1.02. You may either want to get some A rated thrusters / shields, or delay your trip. There is a bug with the bounty system. They will disappear or increase/decrease when you jump to a new system. The bug wasn't fixed in 2.1.03. Had a high ranked friend lose an expensive (if squishy) explorer Anaconda to this bug. Wasn't even aware he had a bounty because it would disappear on him whenever he checked. Of course after the rebuy screen it reappeared as Dormant.

I still don't understand the bounty mechanism, so you're saying looking on transaction tab won't show dormant bounties?
And currently, since 2.1, how do we get rid of bounties? Do we get in to a sidey and ask a friend to scan and kill us?

The transaction tab for many players is completely bugged and will only show accurate bounties when you first log in afaik. Once you jump to a new system, they get altered in various ways depending on how your account is bugged. Some disappear after a hyperspace jump. Some get bigger. Some get smaller. Some stay untouched. I am not referring to the normal 09m bounties that disappear on highwake when you accidentally shoot a miner. I am talking cold blooded murder bounties, like you kind you get doing to NPC wet work for SEPP when trying to make the galaxy safe for explorers.

The issue was reported by multiple CMDRs in the bug forum. The fix didn't make 2.1.03.

Lords of Kobol help us, Ziljan has gone true believer - slaughtering innocent and defenseless NPCs in the name of a brighter future while ridiculing their combat skills.

Kidding. Just point my Vulture in the right direction, and I'll shoot. :)

I asked because I think I shot a copper once, honest mistake(he moved in front of me)

If he wasn't targeted, then very likely there was no bounty, at least none that lastest longer than 9 minutes and a highwake. In any case, you'd know because there would be high ranked assassins looking for you even in deep space which you may encounter shortly after logging in. I'd estimate that there is a 99.9999999999% that you're in the clear.

Combat is dead as of 2.1.03. The NPCs are same as 2.0 now. They won't even chase you anymore. I am almost Deadly and pledged to power play and my Exploration ranks is higher than my Combat rank, and even a Control Wystem with hostile NPCs and I get nothing but Harmless and Competent NPCs.

My combat rank is Mostly Harmless and exploration rank is Elite. Before 2.1.03 the game was unplayable to me to a point i was considering quitting ED. The NPCs were totally out of control. I tried Mining profession - my Type-6 was interdicted as soon as i put something in its cargo bay. Federal Assault Ship two-shotted me by destroying my thrusters. How i fight FAS with a Type-6? Tried missions and trading professions, again as soon as i put something - anything - in my cargo bay i am interdicted and destroyed. My exploration Asp was interdicted 3 times, by same NPC(!!) in about 600ls distance. Somehow it survived and jumped to the next system only to be two-shotted by a Clipper. Was interdicted multiple times upon entering the system even before my FSD cooldown goes off. Was interdicted when in orbital cruise - ended up below planet surface. Was attacked literally 5meters above planet surface when trying to land and prospect. After that i went 150ly away from Bubble in an uninhabited system. Was attacked there by a Python(!) when parked on planet surface.

So basically the only possible profession was Combat. That is, if you are rich enough to buy and A-grade a big heavy duty combat ship like Python or above. Trying civilian professions like Mining or Trading with poorly armed and defended ships was a pure suicide and a big money drainer. Lost about 1/5 of my credits just for two weeks. Basically all the professions were funneled into Combat. First, i dont believe this is a good game design. In any game not all players want to do combat all the time, everywhere. In all MMOs there is a substantial population of "civilians" - traders and crafters alike. And second, players who just couldnt afford a large armed to the teeth ship were doomed.
IMO, the NPC difficulty was a secondary problem. The main issue was the crazy NPC activity and the sheer number of interdictions and attacks. That needed to be scaled down.

Just my 2c :)

When on bounty topic - i had a rather painful experience so be warned :) While prospecting on some planet (and watching TV on the second screen :D ) i accidentally run into a guarded zone. Few skimmers took off and started firing on me. Before fully understanding what is going on i fired couple of shots too. Not sure i even hit any them. Then turned away and disengaged. As it turned out those couple of shots i fired put a bounty on me. 5-6 days later i visited the same system. Requested docking at the main space station. It was granted and my auto docking computer activated. At the station entrance i was stopped and destroyed by the system security [mad]
So be careful. The station first politely accepts your docking request only to destroy you when you come closer...

That's interesting. I flew a T6 half the time in 2.1.01 and 2.1.02 never died once. Had bounties on me, was in PP, low sec, with Pirates, in Open. Never felt limited by the ship. It was fun while lasted. Now combat is just like exploration, alt+tab to Netflix is the most used button in my arsenal.

Sorry to hear that CMDR Pirin. We must have taken different paths somewhere in the game.

I too am Mostly Harmless but an Elite Explorer & I have seen a different side to the game. Yes, Iv been 'dicted 2 or 3 times, but only in populated systems when carrying cargo (for upgrade entry level) & once when I sat on a planet while taking a shower!

Everytime, though taken damage, Iv always managed to high wake out. I plot my routes in civvy space to only go to 0 population systems until I reach my destination system - if I have to jump into a populated system then Iv already re-plotted to the next system & jump in then straight out.
This way Iv yet to even see any NPC's in 0 populated systems.

I don't do pewpew, don't trade now, don't mine, never pledged or will even bother with PP, basically anything that will raise the threat of NPC activity is avoided.

I just go out & Explore & still enjoy the game.

Well, i dont know. May be i was very, very unlucky :) Thats a possibility. But i guess others had same experience too and thats why FD decided to act.

I consider myself pretty cautious player and tried to take any possible measures to avoid interdictions. Nothing worked. As i mentioned, non-inhabitted systems were as dangerous as any other.
And not being able to escape was also a problem. I mean, I was boosting all the time and flying like a drunk butterfly :D Yet that Clipper somehow hit my engines twice in a row... with railguns?

I dont mind if they increase NPC difficulty a bit but the number of interdictions should stay as it is now.

...on other hand, i had some fun too. When that pirate attacked me while i was landing on a planet, it took me by surprise. After some consideration i decided to proceed with the landing, took out the SRV and dismissed the ship. The pirate didnt give up and started chasing the SRV. We were playing Kill Da Rat game as i was making 8s on the ground and he was flying around trying to destroy me:D At that point the cavalry arrived (police) and they started re-enacting the Battle of Britain with a low altitude aerial combat. At the end the pirate was blown apart and ship debris started raining on my SRV :)

Those are the moments you regret not having Action or Shadowplay running in the background. That must have been an awesome spectacle.[up]
