Um... you sure about that?
This has *never* been observed ever.
I imagine this is a guess from the fact that the convoy with the UP had MA in the hold as well. Unconfirmed as nobody has successfully scooped one yet.

Were the original UA not quantity limited such that we kept running them out by the end of Monday each week and then reappearing the next week?
Could it be that these first finds exhausted the 'stock' for a while?
Hi RW
MAs & SAP8 containers are both commodities I believe (in that they can be sold at stations, and are carried in the ship's hold rather than the pilot's materials personal stock)
1) MAs affect the UA degradation effect, either by Palin's theory of distracting their self-repair mechanism or ( to me more likely) by acting as a physical shield against the fireflies which are actually causing the damage effect (I believe this is a more plausible theory because I recall that MAs were carried together with an UA in a ship's hold & it still suffered damage, implying the UA/fireflies have to be surrounded by MA to provide the shielding effect)
2) source of the SAP8 effect is the Unknown Artefact wiki (http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact) which states under Tests Done "Tests with the UA next to 8, 6, 4 SAP 8 core containers
Interesting result: the number of purrs (after the howl, after the morse chitter sequence) changes from 5 to 3 purrs with 8 SAP 8 Canisters nearby. More tests required to verify if this is an effect of SAP 8 specifically, or canisters of any kind? Will 12 have more of an effect? etc.[citation needed]".
I vaguely remember this SAP8 effect being reported in an early subthreadnought but don't think anybody continued the experiment.
edit: same wikia source Timeline of Events "27 June: CMDR Kerrash talks about various things, including Thargoid conjecture ("They are coming"), and that the UA and confirms there is something to it, and that "if any people watching have got in with the UA thing and got halfway in and not looked into it anymore, please pleeease carry on looking, there is something there, there is an interesting secret there, please look, and the SAP 8 containers as well, there is something going on, dont give up!" Seems also to imply SAP8 might be relevant to UAs

Not yet, it was brought up in the last newsletter, I believe that it's going to be included in the patch next week.![]()

Did I miss something? The surface scanner now shows regions where certain elements are likely to be found? Was this always the case? Is this shown in the planet zoom in the system map?
OK.... settle down and check your facts for a minute.
1. My screenshot also features the same spelling mistake, and is from a different system. I absolutely guarantee, many auto-generated news articles have spelling mistakes in them. That's not proof of it being hand-placed.
2. I found this identical article pretty much instantly after it got reported, in another system. I did this by checking a lockdown system's news reports. If it's hand-placed then damn I'm good because it's not just in any arbitrary system.
3. I can't find the link at the moment, but articles like that one have been posted before, including reports of "Alien Activity" and these have all been during lockdowns.
You can go out and verify this yourself, go to any system in lockdown and those articles will be there. Lockdown itself isn't a guarantee you'll see that article, because the BGS has a selection of articles to choose from; your best bet is to check a system with lots of stations, as each station generates it's own article based on the state. People involved in the UP spot themselves confirmed the system was in lockdown.
I'd be careful of saying "Everyone concluded X" and taking that as fact too, otherwise everyone would still believe the UA doesn't emit morse.
To try and shed some positive on this though, it's entirely possible that systems in lockdown are where these USS can be found, though I've had no luck with that, nor would I hand on heart say everyone should run out and check lockdown systems now.
So. I'm sure I read somewhere that Felicia Winters is ex-Sirius Corp. A while ago there was a CG to look for wreckage of SS1, following which the escape pod of Jasmina Halsey is found, who is then sectioned in a hospital on Mars. After a time of her being at said institution, the Federation see fit to deploy Farraguts to guard the Barnacles in Merope, for no given reason other than 'just because'...and Federal convoys are found carrying Unidentified Probes on the very edges of Sirius space. I have a strong suspicion that Felicia Winters (or possibly INRA? Are they linked too, who knows)learned something from Halsey, whilst dismissing it as the ravings of a mad woman publicly, has developed the UP's using the information gathered...and is now attempting to use them in Sirius space to find...something. Winter (or Winters?!) is coming indeed.
Felicia Winters in Sirius AI controversy...you heard it here first!
Found a UA at a crash site.
System: Izanami
Planet: A 4 a
Lat/Long: -2.26 / 145.13
Particulars: I was dropping off cargo for a mission and got a "Tip off" message. The message said to go to the above location and pick up a data packet from a crashed ship. Turned out the ship was an anaconda that was transporting the UA but crashed due to degradation of their systems. Data packet was worth 800K and I sold the UA at the nearest station for about 250K.
