I think FD really want us to check the local news. It's a great vector for them to insert stuff (hints etc.), but NOBODY* checks local news and that pretty much ruins it.

they get mixed up with all the bgs news, but can be spotted
all fd placed local galnets (player and theirs) are published under [system name] Herald:
there's also 19k inhabited systems I think, that's a lot of stations to check ;)

nice and safe in my hold hasn't come out since I got it ;)
I think priority should be to find a location to get a good recording?
got to keep in mind we might only get one drop and it will bug so got to get it right

Whatever you decide to do, I recommend doing the tests alone. I know it's a bit boring, but I have a strong feeling these issues are instance related.

Deep space sound recording is probably the safest and most important test for now.

It would also be interesting with a high orbit pointing test in 5c (Enter orbital cruise, drop to normal space, deploy UP).

news about jaques is up

Galactic News: Jaques Station Found!29 JUN 3302
Two weeks ago it was reported that Jaques Station, the legendary travelling starport, had survived its attempt to jump from Gliese 1269 to Beagle Point.

Unfortunately, however, the starport's location could not be verified due to problems with its communication systems. Fragmentary messages, picked up by a number of outposts, gave hints as to what had befallen the station, but the incomplete nature of the messages left recipients with no clear idea of where it might be.

But a recent report indicates that, despite all odds, the starport has been found. An independent pilot by the name of Commander Cly happened upon the station while exploring the Eol Prou AA-A H89 Nebula. The pilot has confirmed that Jaques is in the Eol Prou RS-T d3-94 system. Commander Cly also reported that the starport is still suffering from technical issues, presumably due to Unknown-Artefact related interference.

It is hoped that Jaques will make a statement soon.

Did anything come of the initial recording of the UP's sounds containing the word "singing"?

It seems interesting that one the logs in Jacques news feed mentions the UA's "singing" and then finding you or something to that effect. Plot is thickening nicely.

Hey guys still catching up on the thread due to being at Glastonbury the past week, but I just wanted to add to littlee's post above it is completely true!

Jaques is found and here is the reddit post complete with videos for you guys to start pouring over. I suggest we send a cannon detatchment out to investigate and confirm :) good luck guys I will finally be able to get back on in the next few days!

This sounds plausible.

Max standard jump range combined with max fsd upgrade from engineers plus max fsd boost. Then jump with UA/s on board.

Maybe jump with both a UA and a UP in the hold....

How many light years would we be talking here? 100+?

Yeah, That would be about the maximum, i guess. As someone else mentioned, It might also have to be a super-duper-megajump through a specific area of aspace, though I think one only needs to be somewhat far away from the bubble..

Wise. Let's get collecting for when they are no longer plagued by... er... bugs.

I'm checking the news in every station I stop, I know I'm not the only one.

As my study into barnacle reproduction goes on, I find more and more evidence indicating complex communication using echolocation and whale song. This only is possible if the artifact, the probe and the barnacle are three parts of the same entity.

It has been suggested that humpback songs communicate male fitness to female whales. (barnacle mating call)

Echolocation allows the odontocete to easily discern the difference between objects that are different in material composition, even if visually identical, by their different densities. (searching for planetary grow site)

Also, found this interesting tidbit;

Voyager Golden Records carried whale songs into outer space with other sounds representing planet Earth

...and as I read more into this my mind is being blown...

you mean, we learn.

No. I meant "they".

The local news is always filled with automated messages. I Know some people read it but I can safely guess that most people have just stopped reading them a long time ago. Or else we would have had some clue appearing here last week.

Edit: What I meant by "they" is that maybe FD should take into consideration that their approach did not work. I'm pretty sure this is not the first time that we miss clues that were just buried deep probably somewhere like those Powerplay reports that no one ever reads ! :)

I still find it the way it should be, in fact I'm using the news to see what/when BGS changes in the systems I use to work for, so I don't understand what do you mean, but I get what do you want to say.

I think it's funny how people were criticising FD for being surprised that someone found Jaques so quickly when the thing on Merope 5c that we've all been searching for has been in the game for the last 5 months (according to FD) and we still haven't found it, even with the galactic equivalent of a giant neon sign pointing at Merope. Granted, they are two different things, but you have to see it from their point of view. They might have just thought "well, it seems to take these guys a while to find these things, I'm sure we have time..."

It does feel that when you've read one set of local news you've read them all.

But given that I've previously asked FD to make use of Galnet to insert story progression, I can't really criticize it too much.

I always skim through the local news, and since 2.1 it's providing more useful BGS information. Where did they expand to? Where are they retreating? Who's about to invade?

So I could provide a list of a couple of dozen stations (out of 80k+ ?) where it wasn't published :)

I disagree. In this case, we were just idiots. There was a "main" galnet post that came as close to explicitly telling us to go read the local news:

Several outposts throughout inhabited space have reported receiving messages over the past 24 hours, suggesting that the cyborg and his travelling starport survived the attempted journey to Beagle Point.

Unfortunately, however, the messages are extremely fragmentary, giving no clear indication of where the starport might be. One of the more complete messages reads as follows:

"...witch-space...drive engines...station infrastructure intact but...we are..."

That's pretty direct. And via the universal galnet feed, not local news.

Did anyone actually follow through on it? Well, either "no" or the messages were just too rare.

I suspect FD would have repeated the hint with more emphasis (since we're apparently a bit slow) had Cly not happened close by and seen the colored dot.

Added: And local news is KNOWN to have contained a number of Formadine Rift clues that have since been lost to time (since local news is not archived forever). Possibly all sorts of other Easter Eggs as well.

I hope FD do learn from this, though, and somehow get us to check the local news. Maybe even have the headlines pop up or scroll (as a news feed) when docked.
