Engineers Question

I have been outside the bubble since 19th December last year and am heading back to cash in my exploration data and visit the Engineers.

Should I cash in the exploration data with the Engineers themselves? Or is this not how it works?

Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance

I think Felicity Farseer in the Deciat system is the only one that accepts exploration data, if you've been out that long it should improve your rep with her noticeably!

You can do that yes. However you got to do couple of things prior to visit them.
Here's the engineers list, you will find everything you need there.

After completing the meeting and unlocking requirements I suggest to go for Farseer (Deciat) and/or Martuuk (Khun). (unlocking won't be hard at this 2 engineers since they're exploration related).

Hope it helps

Ps: one more thing: when you sell the exp datas at any of the engineers' base that listed above, check your rep stat after selling each exp data pages. When you reach the max in reputation, go to another base and continue the selling.

fraseer and martuk accept exploration data, you'll want to have 8-10 mio for one of them (for L5 FSD increase access), and 5-7 mio for the other (so you unlock next engineers). both require something for initially access, otherwise you won't be able to sell explo data to them.

here is a recent thread with best practise/safety advice/ how-to: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/273262-Could-I-ask-your-opinion-of-this-plan-of-mine

fly safe and enjoy.

and this is working very well for me!

Strongly suggest you follow the advice about docking somewhere safe and equipping a fast ship to move around the bubble in while you sell your data

I parked at Shinrata Dezhra as it was a safe system and I got the Founders World discounts (I also came in from below to avoid NPCs for as long as possible)

Thank you for all the useful information and taking the time to reply.

I'm 500 ly out from Jaques station and after I've had a rest there I will be homeward bound :)

I have a slightly different question. If I cash all my explo-data with an engineer does this also go to my exploration level?

Of course! but you don't cash in on the first discovery bonus, afaik.

I don't think that's true. Do you have a source? I just tried finding something to confirm but haven't been able to. What I do know for sure the game told me I got first discovery bonuses as I was selling at engineers, and my tags were assigned as per usual.

i'm very sure, that is wrong. i got first discoveries and still remember first discovery bonus messages by selling at fraseer. don't have a screenshot, but i just checked at a system i cashed in, that my name is on it - and it is.

You're still selling at Universal Cartographics, just a local branch at the Engineer's pad, so you most certainly do get the first discovery bonus.

Just conveying what I heard, hence the 'afaik'. Glad to hear it's wrong! And I wasn't referring to having the tag, but getting the financial bonus.

The BULK? Errr... no. You only need to sell 8MCr to get the level 5 access you require for her.

I've just finished bouncing around in a Cobra selling enough to get all the initial Engineers unlocked (apart from the guy that needs blackmarket visits) and sold the rest to SEPP. I didn't get interdicted once and it was quite refreshingly easy after all the horror stories.

Honestly, just do what I did. Someone will be available to drop off the required Relics and Meta Alloys for you and go from there.

Thanks all...then I plan on selling the bulk of my data at farseer. Hopefully I can reach elite AND get some good rep with the engineer.

Being out as long as you have, I'd be amazed if you didn't reach elite, especially if you scanned at least the interesting stuff. I got some 270 million after being on DWE for six months alone. Prior to that an expedition that lasted 2 months netted me some 220 million. It does all depend on your exploration style, but I digress...

Here's what I'd do in your shoes. Get someone to escort you in, and bring you 1t of meta alloys and 3t of soontil relics. Then dock, sell some data, get a fast, decent ship you can zip around the bubble safely in. Grab the cargo I mentioned above and go get yourself to grade 5 with both Farseer and Elvira. You should have more than enough data for both.

There are two other engineers who take exploration data, Selene Jean (armor lady) and Professor Palin (magic thrusters man), but I don't recommend trying to save data for them with a large haul aboard as unlocking them means doing a lot of fyling around the bubble doing engineer grind, and if you're not confident of your ability to survive combat situations of all sorts it's probably not worth the risk. But Farseer and Elvira are straightforward, dock, give them the cargo they want and sell data.
