I hope the Cmdr that posted this original thought can forgive me for not quoting him, I copied his text to read later and can't find his post now. The highlighted portion is the bit I want to focus some attention to, he may be on to something.
"A few things that have got brushed under the carpet as it were.
The mysterious Diamondback Explorer designated “S6 -7” found briefly ‘scanning’ Obsidian Orbital. If this report is true then perhaps our unknown ‘friends’ are scanning suitable ships through the Unknown Artifacts which actively scan ships and the surrounding area. These UA’s may relay this info back to the owner.
Could this indicate that our friends know how a Diamondback Explorer(1) now works and if so, would the Unknown Probe, when scanned actually be able to FULLY control or access this ship? If so a brave CMDR would then honk the probe in a Diamondback Explorer.
The other thing is the way these guys communicate. Image and sound. The UA’s react to proximity and the UP’s react to being scanned. Is there any other way to communicate to them via other modules?(2) A lot has been tried so far but we still might be missing something, be it a module or objects we can store in our holds. Like Hydrogen was key to unlocking Voyager’s disks something similar might help in this endeavor.
Also FD hinted in a Galnet article that we might have ‘a key’ . Nicely hinted in a green colour. Could key actually be a musical reference? And ‘a’ be a tone like a-minor? There are hints that these things like to sing and then they find you.(3) And on that ‘note’ ( see what I did there? )could those that have sung ( scanned the probes ) be expecting to be found? Prepare yourselves"
1) I think it is worth trying an ADS honk with a DBX just to rule out the importance of this one make and model ship that was clearly named in Galnet. Others have said that FD is most likely to communicate there, people in and close to FD keep stressing the importance of GNet for hints and news.
2 & 3) Item 3 makes reference to musical scale and singing. I think this Cmdr is on to something, I hope we can name him so he can have credit if this works. I did some looking and here is what I found.
A) The hex code for that color broke down to 226131 or in ASCII "a1".
B) A1 is the Contra Octave, the lowest octave. Perhaps someone should check to see if there is something in a low octave in the burst from the UP.
C) 226131 also broke off into two separate Alt-codes for ASCII, Γ â. This may be reaching so you decide. Going with music, Γ would be "C" and â is just "a". If someone here knows anything about music perhaps the scale is worth looking at, scales have keys don't they?
D) Back to Item 2 - If something does come of the music and singing angle, is there a way to transmit the needed sounds back to the UP? Does an instrument in our inventory allow such interactions? I would be curious as to why the ADS woke it up, obviously it uses some kind of sound-based system to scan. It must have hit the sweetspot the UP needed to say hello.
I'm thinking this first contact will be a little more along the lines of '
Close Encounters of the Third Kind'.
