NPCs are particularly crazy at the moment. I just lost an Asp to a pirate Python. My bad sitting pretty at 0m/s, my bad that i didn't notice the comms while browsing the contacts, sure. My bad.

Shields (A5) down in less than two seconds (Around the time it took the ship computer to say "under attack"), my ship exploded within another three seconds. Not fun. This has nothing to do with "dangerous". It is completely out of whack. I don't care about the insurance costs but this is just plain terrible gameplay.

Pirates no longer use Hatch-breakers, it appears - I wonder why? A pirate has nothing to gain from destroying a ship like that. It makes no sense. They're just wasting a metric flip ton of cash on rockets for no reason, with nothing to gain. That's not funny. I'd file this as a bug if it wouldn't appear to be a deliberately change :\ maybe it's just carelessness?

On a positive note, I've seen other pirates (Eagles) shy away from attacking me when I was flying a Python - so in some scenarios, the NPCs are less suicidal than they used to be (and say so over comms). That's good!

i give you 10 points , for semi-orginal title, BUT -10 points for pointless and crappy content , i give this post a a 4/20

The Asp's crap shields are legendary. They're legendary for being crap, in case you were considering that there might be other possibilities.

I doubt that it took two seconds - the computer's "under attack" message often plays for me after I've destroyed the aggressor (if it's a small ship). It has played for me more than 30 seconds out of sync previously. In short, don't trust that as the arbiter of when you actually start getting shot at. Sure, that's an issue in and of itself, but two seconds? No.

I agree on "capable" - but should this be what a pirate does? If someone runs, sure, if they have point defence against hatch-breakers, aight... but like this?

Agreed, not really what they should be doing..Although I would get quite wound up if I was shouting in someones face for ages and they were ignoring me. I might be tempted to just blow them away too. :)

I have nvidia Shadow play which was free with nvidia drivers, which runs in the background with very little impact to performance. Anything wierd happens? I just press F5 and it records the last 5 mins into a .avi clip. doesn't even interrupt the game play. Everyone should have this setup and there would be evidence aplenty for all the crazy shinanigans.

That is pretty awesome! And it doesn't affect your performance? I assume your gaming rig has a lot of breathing space ;D

True. A lot of factors to consider in order to make a pirate NPC behave according to the role it is supposed to have in the game.

I wish I could meet one of the NPCs that are good at combat...
I have been playing nearly every afternoon sins 2.1 hit and post AI nerf I have not seen a single good NPC.

I met one FDL that got my shields down but nothing more.

I understand we all have different skill levels but what happened to the idea of learning new skills?
When you got ED was no one aware of the idea that combat was going to be key for every role (they said so even in alpha times)
And that you will need to manage your PIPs , bluezone and all that.

Currently the AI to me feels like a more advanced version of Xwings alliance ''officer'' AI.

To me what elite needs is a range of NPC going from
Brainless all the way to silver commet level of insane.

Every game on the market is dumbed down , easy and casual friendly.
SC combat AI sucks
NMS is aimed at kids it seems as its combat is power fantasy
X's combat AI is bad

Games like darksouls are not hard but rather akin to a dance game as the only hard bit is bosses and once you learn them you won the game for ever.

Elite , old games and 2.1 used to be that you needed to adapt on the fly , manage your ship , learn its limits.
There was a reason elite sold HOTAS's on its website...

I saw it... in Archimedes Elite 20 years ago.

Quite why ED standard of game design show be so much lower than then, I do not know.
I have seen NPCs scoop cargo.

Its rare but it happens.

Combat with NPC's used to be equitable. You'd hit them, they'd hit you, eventually through maneuver and firepower you could wear them down and win.

Now, good luck even seeing them from your cockpit as they're always above or behind you. *BANG* shields gone, *BANG* thrusters out, *BANG* insurance screen.

I actually agree with this entirely, but when you do meet the insane skill level pilots it would be nice to be able to run. You can't; they snipe thrusters and you are toast. I was in a Low-CZ less than thirty seconds before running with 14% hull left. I got hit by three NPC's with railguns. A Viper nailed my Python thrusters to 0%. I went into SR and coasted with FA Off. Once clear of the combat (no more shots being fired and at 140% heat) I turned off SR, went into reboot and repair. Ship rebooted, I got three percent thrusters back and *BOOM* got nailed by railguns again and was at insurance screen. Bloody frustrating. This has happened in an FDL, Vulture and smuggling Cobra which could boost to 455 m/s. Made no difference, dead, dead and dead.

Since I hit Dangerous combat rank last month I've not been able to kill more than three ships and am still at 0% rank on the meter. Since v1.0 I have died a total of twelve times. Eight of those deaths were in the last month. I had to hangar my Python and FDL as I could no longer afford their rebuys. Since doing so, the rebuys have almost perfectly offset my mission income so any progress for me has stalled. I have not played that account in over a week as I'm on my main account exploring deep space to take a break.

Oh and I see NPC's scooping cargo all the time.

If you haven't killed three ships since 2.1 dropped, what are you doing even attempting a CZ? When you're in over your head, you go back to the basics. Like, a Nav Beacon basics.

I swapped from a xbox 360 controller a couple weeks ago that I had nearly 1400 hours playtime on, and with it I could slice through the NPC's like a knife through hot butter in my FdL, to a X52 Pro HOTAS. I'd never once touched a flight stick in all my years of gaming, so as you'd imagine my flight skill was basically busted back to "nooby greenhorn." Learning how to use the stick even leaving a station was a huge challenge; within the first ten minutes I managed to see the rebuy screen twice just from accidentally ramming the station & firing off my multi cannon (almost 14 mil in rebuys). That was me trying to leave a station, obviously you can imagine what a dismal mess I was at combat.

So, what I did was I went back to flight school; I spent a few hours doing 'touch & go's" in the station until I could run through the keyhole at speed, then I moved to a Nav Beacon and victimized low level NPC's for a solid day or so until I got comfortable with where all the buttons were on my stick, then just slowly worked my way up until I got comfortable taking on wings of Pirates in a Haz Res.

With this "buckle down" approach I've accomplished quite a lot, and I think if you'd do something similar, you'd see improvement, too. If it's really true that you've haven't killed but three NPC's in the last couple months, you need to drastically rethink your approach. Taking on the current NPC's is very doable, just don't let yourself get gang piled at a CZ for starters.

that is why I used the word sometimes ;)

do you think people are spending their time doing vids while playing ? then they reset it automatically after each day ?

Shadowplay...

Alt-F10 saves the last X minutes of gameplay as a video by default.

Both AMD and NVidea cards come standard with this now.

I keep mine set to the last 10 minutes of gameplay at high quality, but it can be set for lower times/quality to safe disk space.

Rioja usually ....Oooops sorry thought it was another WINE thread.

I love wine from that part of Spain, sadly it's one of 2 Spanish provinces I've never been to.

I don't mind unpredictable ai, but I do mind irrational ai. The only ones I somewhat fear are elite Eagles or vultures with double rails.

My Rig is setup for VR with a 970 and i7 but honestly I don't think it is that demanding. I'm pretty sure it just keeps a buffer of the last 5 mins worth of frames sent from the Gfx card on the hard drive and then when told to do so it quickly spits them into a movie file. Modern processors are very effiecient with video processing, I blame all the p*rn.

Has anyone ever seen any NPC collect ejected cargo? I know I haven't in almost 2 years of playing.

I have. At my early start in 1.4 i had to abandon my cargo to a Conda. He said "that's what i was coming for" and stopped shopting. The npc collected the stuff and didn't noticed me anymore so that i was able to fly away

If anyone thinks NPCs are just easy meat, please go to Na Chem now and enter a CZ, low intensity. Alone. Shoot a video, I'd love to see how well you do.

Sandro is not a moderator, he's the lead designer.

Also, your opinion is much, much easier to take seriously if you use punctuation to separate your sentences. Just a tip, not trying to be rude.
well you are being rude i dont use any punctuation on forums deal with i t

Which is, BTW, not exactly a pinnacle of courtesy, either, as that is lazy and rude (you do not care whether others have problems understanding what you are trying to convey).

Personally, I'm puzzled by that attitude. Punctuation is ingrained. I cannot just stop using it.--

This news is a bit disturbing as I am on my way back from a trip outside the Bubble with a lot of exploration data.

I'll be heading for the first platform I can reach on the human frontier to unload it in this case........

The two basic rules of coming back with data...

1) Get yourself an escort

2) Find somewhere appropriate and hand it in. I have seen many posts here and elsewhere from explorers saying they are just going to "play it safe" with 50 mill exploration data until the next exploration CG comes along, and in every case shortly followed by a post from the same chap saying "Lost my exploration data..."

You have number two covered by the look of it. But do invest in an escort and turn wing-beacon on.
