Cool to hear that the info was useful. Do you mind making a report of the two UP Convoys for this spreadsheet? PM is fine, but one for all to see here would be better. Oh, and pictures...we need pictures!! ;)

I'm not one for writing research papers, but this mystery got me thinking hard enough to compile my thoughts into one.

TL;DR The probes are sensitive to EMP pulses, and are actively recording stellar emission data. By honking them, we effectively overload their systems (causing a reboot which involves a transmission), OR they use this energy to then honk back. Also, there is a conclusion section to the paper, so I recommend just reading that for a better synopsis.

I would agree if our ADS gave off an 'EMP' which, if I believe correctly, it does not.

This makes me believe we are not overloading anything. It just sees our scans as 'Intelligent' design and so goes ''Hey, you seem smart, read this!''

It is a great idea, however, to compile thoughts and ideas into a singular place like that. I've been doing the same, though it is for my own reference for the moment.

just checked the UP test sheet, i cant see any info on there about this test, if you honk at the UP and as its charging up its EMP to honk a second time, does it have any effect on the UP or the ship you are in?

Hi there, i read close to 24h in this thread and done some testing with the basic audio files where this gif was made of: http://rsln.net/random/data-anim-hires.gif

I have found some points that are really interesting for me:
1.) Why were always only the Frequenzrange of the hearable Soundrange checked?
2.) Everyone sees the 4 Markers @ the circle but why are they at these points at the grafic?
3.) Does anyone of you know a kind of writting where you write in an X-style? I mean in english we start at the top left write to the right and than the next line but here it looks different.
4.) What the Spektrumgrafic shows us depends strongly by the frequenz filters used but if you compare the Spectrumgrafic with waveform signal of the audio you can see some points where are Datas in it. Befor and after the circle.
5.) Think of with the Arecibo-Message send to Space by Mankind. Remember the prime numbers. Here we have 23 and 41 bothe are prime numbers. So we could read the databits.
6.) I would check the long audiofile for some data points or something like that, but i just can listen to it atm. So if anyone of you have the audiofile please let me know how i can get it for some testing.
7.) Did anyone tryed out to remove the noise shadow in front of the main grafic in spektrum. you can see it in the gif, if you look only at the thing that don´t change.
8.) For me is the Grafic not only 1 key, the complete grafic is at min. 2 Keys for me or maybe more.

For the moment that is all i could find out with my friends and now i try to rest a bit, because more than 24hours of work are more than engouh.

I hope that my thinking of the grafic and codes will help you and i will try my best after some rest.

Has anyone with an already "honked" UP has tried to scoop it back again and tried to enter some permit locked system?

Something like:

1- activate the key (top right)
2 - shield of the system goes off (top left)
3 - the shield opens (bottom left)
4 - you can enter the system

Just a simple simple idea

There is no trace of this in 1st page reported tests...

I'm still out looking for free floaters...

Anyone with an UP available?

40 systems examined here in the elephant nebula... and i begin to have a suspect.

the guy who wrote on reddit to have found the UP is so insicure of what he remember
that i think he wasn't in the elephant nebula.

my suspect began after seeing this screenshot
he claimed to be a shot before (or shortly after) the encounter of the UP in low orbit of the planet.

well, i used that screenshot as point of reference and i tried to match the shape of the nubula in the photo with every system i visited here in
the elephant nebula: nobody of them looks like it at all

he said that he was in the north america nebula before coming to the elephant neb.
i begin to think that the UP he found was there and not in the elephant nebula.

it's a pity that he doesn't come here to help us.

It's a probe.. probably made by Sirius corporation.

The barnacles are also probably made by Sirius Corp. What if the message is how to "open" the barnacles, which opens a gateway to another dimension?

Maybe the instructions are:

1. Align the barnacles in your HUD
2. Descend from orbit
3. Fire electronic counter measure to open a gateway
4. Release the probe

Maybe that is why it is called a probe, because it is intended to be sent through a gateway to another dimension... Maybe that is what the convoy is on its way to do. Maybe the next time we find a convoy with an unknown probe, instead of tatakinthe probe, we should follow it to see where it goes with the probe and what they do with it.

Hmmm so I have not seen a test where the UP is released first followed by the UA so the UA does its scan with the UP nearby. If there is one like that - Could someone direct me to it?

And, here's the descriptino of the Nav Compass from the manual:

Nav-Compass: This graphic describes a targeted object’s position relative to your
ship’s facing. The dot represents the object, the closer it is to the centre of the circle, the closer
it is to your ship’s facing. When the dot is hollow, the object is behind your ship.
The Nav-compass is summoned under specific criteria:
• A targeted hyperspace destination
• A targeted stellar body within a system
• An allotted docking bay pad
• An escape vector when attempting to super cruise very close to a stellar body
