seems i've failed to make my case!
Well I guess i'll be proven right or wrong soon enough
thanks for taking a look anyway!

Well you had a theory and you explained yourself well enough for others to be able to look at it and express our views, that's a lot more than most manage :D Just because some of us didn't see it, doesn't mean it's definitely not there and if you think you have stumbled onto something important then you shouldn't just give up ;)

Though in all honesty, in this case I wouldn't delve too deep :p

OK at the risk of ridicule for quoting myself, i have added info on what i posted, i have removed the original pics of thursday morning and added thursday evening 19:00

I have fast forwarded time to thursday evening 19:00, see the 2 images, i believe there maybe an extra orbital body, which is causing a slight gravitational pull on M5C and M6, this is causing both orbits to be very different to other orbits in the system as they are on different planes, also if you look at the image of M6 orbit round M5 its not centered on M5 and its plane is not the same as the rest either.

Im not the first to say it but it could be something.

Why do people carry on with the Ice Hockey tickets!

Just an FYI Merope 6 does not orbit Merope 5, they have a barycenter which is very close to, but not on, Merope 5.

Im sure i am not doing this as clearly as possible, this is trying to use snipping tool, and trying to get files exactly the same size and alignment and run subtraction through image J, not easy to be exact.

I have to concur with our esteemed colleagues - I've been following your posts with interest, because I liked the idea a lot; and saw hints of what what you initially identified.

However, I have to say now I too am seeing noise.

I really like the logic, though - especially in terms of applying the voyager principle of 'it'll look like this if you've done it right' - so it's still a 'bravo' from me :)

the two lines that touch the circle but do not enter it designate that quarter as having 3 sections, making a total of 12 for the whole circle (hours?)..

not sure where this leads or if its already been noted

I think the video on page 1 is suspect.
.
1, Fires a ADS but has no scanner show up on his hud.
.
2,After his systems go down ,all he does is stare at the probe ,anyone would have looked at his panels to see if anything was working or if anything had broke........he does nothing.
.
But you all got your "Alien" blinkers on to notice anything else lol

You don't get an ADS scanner HUD element outside of SC unless hardpoints are deployed.

Plus, it's Riz. And plus: It's been repeated by several other pilots since, including by another CMDR I trust without question: Zenith.

Well, you know the only way to confirm is to get stuck in with the search for UPs and honk at it yourself ;)

I wish I could search for UPs, but I'm so far above the galactic plane at the moment heading out to Sag A* that it would just take far too long for me to divert course :(

Maybe someone should let the UP and the UA fry their ship and see if holding the UAUP with a half crippled ship might do something diferent? maybe they are just making "adjustments" on your ship. Maybe your ship start bradcasting "you will be assimilated , resistence is futile" in the local chat :D

Because some of us are trying to help even if its a bit silly or completely wrong but it could trigger a eureka moment for someone else, also unlike some of the others on here i'm not a bloody scientist, mathematician, astrologer, sound engineer or anything like that, i'm a gamer and a PC techy, i'm going by what i see using the tools i find on the front page and if its wrong so be it but be nice about it    .

This was brought up earlier in this thread.... somewhere.

M6 and M5 orbit each other. The 2 have a "barycenter" that orbits the Merope star. The orbit of M5 is so small, the orbit lines are entirely within M5 itself. I personally think M6 should be classified as M5d, but there must be a reason that astronomers would make the distinction.

I initially thought the same, but if you assign a key to the ADS you don't see the usual "charging" bar, that one is easy enough to test yourself.

+after 3 attempts at taking on a UP convoy solo I finally got my hands on one and tested it myself. Sadly I didn't record it*, but it behaves exactly as in the video, with the only exception being I didn't get pushed back. I was in a 'vette at the time so a bit heavier than the asp in the original vid.

*I despise having to install geforce experience to use shadowplay, it's nothing but bloatware. If anyone knows a better way to capture game footage please let me know :)

thanks for the explanation, i do have 1 question though, does that explain the wobble of M5 when you speed up the orbits to 10,000x speed?

The Ice Hockey tickets have been around since January of this year and were first mentioned in thread 5! I'm not being horrible about it. I've used and contributed to elite galaxy online a lot and if you look at the orrery you will see that 5 and 6 are orbiting a barycenter as it's described as Merope x3.

I wonder what you wrote inbetween it and the . :p

Sorry just a quick brain wave on the issue of where Unknown Probes can be found outside of the convoys.

UAs - Hypothesis

If UAs are indeed a scouting/scanning party, as many of us have suggested, then their placement is important. The shell is a vast volume of space, but the range is *very* precise.

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that they're searching for something that could move and which started out from Merope. Its speed was known, but the amount of time it travelled for, less so. Or vice versa. This would give you a region of space exactly in this shell shape - in which, if you had the means - you'd seed with scanners and listen for the lucky ones which said 'over here! over here!'.

So the placement of the artefacts around Merope was deliberate: what they were looking for was in that shell and can only have been in that shell, because that's where it started. They broadcast their location because that was their job ('reporting from here'), and they then scanned our ships because that's also their job - but not exclusively our ships. It's possible that our ships only served to confuse matters! ;)

UPs - Hypothesis

So, why the probes? The probes are more precise - with more capabilities (and perhaps produce less noise, because they don't scan our ships!) - but they're perhaps not focused on locations in space, but locations on a surface - because that's where what they were looking for has ended up. They're orbital surveyors.

The question is where would you deploy your more advanced probes? If you follow the same modus operandi as with the artefacts - then you'd deploy them where your lucky UAs which screamed 'over here! over here!' told you to.

So?

If correct - then unknown probes will found in the shell. But perhaps not in deep space - Unknown Artefacts have that covered - but around one or more planets or moons that have been deemed as good targets for the probes to do their work.

Problems

It might only be one planet or moon. But it's possible that either the UA offers a clue as to where; or perhaps more likely that the UP does.

Thoughts?

Also think about how Merope 5C's orbital inclination is 75° compared to almost every other moon in the galaxy which has almost no orbital inclination. This indicates something smashed into Merope 5C disrupting its orbit. Like a rogue planet or huge starship. Or giant barnacle-mother-thing. And it's out there somewhere.

Yes because M5 is orbiting the barycenter, but as it is so close it barely moves, but it has to move somehow as it is still orbiting something else. As Kerrec said the orbital path is so small it's within the diameter of the star.

I think you'll find it's purely because M6 doesn't orbit M5. No matter how small the distinction may be, M5 is orbiting something other than the main star.

I agree there is something on the surface. I haven't posted every screen shot I took because of the negative responses. Here are the last few I have. All I did was up the contrast. I was tired when doing this so if you see anything great.
