UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Its been established that its a PROBE so they tend to seek out things.

The only place we've found them were in human possession so that means they probably were initially found in the bubble. It also means that it is probably probing towards the bubble.

Also we know it can detect life. So logic dictates this probe is looking for a life based planet in or near the bubble that matches that schematic.

  • There are only about 95 Earth Like Worlds under 1900LY from Earth.
  • There are only about 60 Water worlds within 1200LY from Earth
  • There are only about 25 Gas Giants with water based life within a reasonable distance from Earth .

Best guesses are this:
  • I believe the top left quadrant represents ATMOSPHERE of 2 which in the periodic table is Helium.
  • I believe the top RIGHT quadrant represents radiation coming from outside which means a star luminosity of a type 3 which is a GIANT
  • I have no clue about the bottoms but I would think they would describe the exact planet a little more.

Anyone who has a UP - please take it to LHS 417 5. Report back whether it detects life. Wouldn't hurt to check the Helium gas giants too :)

Someone was mentioning Combat Aftermath areas? How do we find these?

FYI, now I've played around with a few signal sources pre and post patch, I've worked out what's going on.

FD don't appear to have added new signal sources to the game, just added different categories to distinguish.

In the game now we have Combat Aftermath (wreck + private data beacon) and High Grade emissions (Very Rare Materials e.g imperial shielding/Military grade composites)

All three of these were "Degraded Emissions" previously as this is where I've got all three before... FD have just introduced new categories since the patch.

That's all I know about that's changed, there could be more still. As for finding them,, fly around in SC and spin the RNG wheel.

EDIT: Correction, private data beacons are encoded emissions.

UAs were also first found in convoys in human occupied space and I don't think they've ever been found by players in human space since then. That kind of puts a damper on the theory of UPs first being found in the human bubble. Or, at the very least it's a counterexample. As for it detecting life, don't barnacles qualify?

Ahh okay. I thought we were maybe seeing hints of someone's tech being based around heat damage.

Okay, this is a stupid question... and it's probably been answered, but I can't keep up with how fast this moves while I'm away. Sorry.

Has anyone else noticed a random... chirping - for lack of a better word - over certain regions of the 18, -40 crater on Merope 5C?
High pitched tone. I've heard it twice this evening while flying around the crater (toward Merope 5, and then back toward the center). The chirp was pretty similar to the sound when you first discover a star.

Maybe it's normal? I don't normally fly around in craters.

Convoy Dispersal Pattern (Threat 4) in LHS 1928

Relevant to anyone's interests?

You need to give more info. What was in it?

CDP (Threat 4) USS appear everywhere,, would only be interesting if it had a UP convoy in it. Other convoys (Hafnium/weapons/etc) appear in these also

Sorry for not being specific, but I actually have no way to tell... since Sirius is only 39.95 LY away, it seemed like someone might want to check it out

If you drop into the USS and hear convoy chatter, it's almost certainly a UP convoy. No cargo scanners required.
Anything else, it's just a "normal" convoy.

Aha, okay! I was just hanging around in Supercruise in case someone with C/S wanted to wing and drop in

No comms chatter, just seven "Federal Navy Ships"
