CQC Is CQC dead?

Currently there are a bunch of good players every evening fighting in the Deathmatch. Usually you find like 4-5 good players and 1-2 noobs. Team Death match is definetly more tricky to find a skilled group - or any group at all. We will see, where this CQC/Arena will go. Perhaps we will have a surprise within the next weeks during Gamescom (Cologne)?

I have been circumnavigating the galaxy since February and am nearly home but have abandoned that trip to instead get blown to bits in CQC (by you rather a lot too). This is a great game. Once you get past the blown to pieces immediately zone i.e around level 30, it really is fantastic. We need to spread the word.

I don't even know that level 30 is necessary, if you put in a dozen games you quickly find that it is very playable because you get oriented in the maps and how the ships handle and suddenly find yourself having a lot of fun. If only I didn't have to sit in a menu and wait for a match. If I could play in my Corvette in the main game while CQC tried to find me a game that would be perfect.

I used to be hopeful for this, but with FDev abandoning the tournament, I think they have decided to just let CQC die and not spend any more time on it. Which is a shame as it is a fun game, they just need to improve the matchmaking (lobbies, chat) and tweak the powerups and the loadouts (give all of them to everyone from the start).

They put work into CQC this update so hopefully it is still on the roadmap...

Yes, I think so. If you look at the bugs that are fixed, too, there's an obscure crash in Capture the Flag fixed which seems more likely to have been discovered in an internal dev CQC session than by a player.

They may not be able to put a lot of dev time into it for big features with the rest of their roadmap, but with most patches having something for it, their live streams, etc. I think it's an aspect of the game which the devs personally like a lot.

With the focus on ship launched fighters in 2.2, I would have thought it would be a good place to add a major CQC update. We shall see what 2.2 brings.

i'm sad because i like CQC, but have only been able to play on two occasions- when it first launched, and when they made it free the one weekend.

The rest of my experience has been sitting there for 10-15 minutes as no games are found.... this is the most disappointing multiplayer experience in a game I've ever had- literally unplayable! Made especially bitter by seeing "Mostly Helpless" in my ranks as I play the main game as a constant reminder that I'm unable to to anything about it. For the ambition and size of the game/players, why doesn't this aspect work?!? I thought there was a line about improved matchmaking in the recent patch, but I didn't see a difference.

I'd like to see something like:
a) the ability to sit in a lobby while playing the main game, so if I have to wait 30 mins, at least I can go do stuff.
b) play vs bots for half points while waiting for a match (so you can rank up without people)
c) integration into the main game with community goals and ways to get to CQC from stations/locations.

Something like that would be nice, but realistically a proper matchmaking system or even a list of public games might be better. I seem to always run across players in the main game, so clearly nobody is playing this or the matchmaking is literally the worst ever. Which sucks because the main game is so damn polished!

No its literally the matchmaking that doesn't work. Heh, I am in a DM lobby right now with 6 people.... and its still spinning waiting for players to join.... Matchmaking is simply borked in CQC, which is a shame because the game play in VR in CQC is amazing.

All absolutelly awesome ideas - hope that Frontier listen to you!
About playing against NPC to rank up, I do not agree with this. This should be a PvP Arena and not a PvE Arena. Or then it must be reflected in the ranks - but then it misses your purpose.

Well, even in the small amount of matches I have played, I found ranking up takes time, so bots would allow new players to get used to the maps/combat/ships...

But I see your point... I think the best way to solve is:
- Bots Only: No points, just training matches. - 1/2 the points (so people can play, matchmaking be damned)
- Humans with filler bots: Regular CQC - 100% of current points
- Humans only: Ranked CQC - 2x-10x the points

With a good ranked ladder, you could benefit your main-game and it would satisfy pvp purists even more to compete for actual rankings above and beyond a % point, I think.

But I think I'd just be ok if they dumped the three lobbies into one bucket and rotated game modes each round until it's playable, as adding more modes now would just scatter what's there. Maybe it is dead, but it could be cool. Would be neat to see things like "Starbase VS Carrier" or "Survive the waves" or "Asteroid Tag" (no shields/weapons, just ramming in an asteroid field), but before they add that, maybe just get it working for now, lol.

Have tried to join several times always no matches so havent managed to ever play... Saying that it doesnt really yank my crank and wont bother again.

Check Death Match and not Team Death Match. And during Europe prime time there should be matches all the time. If you can't get one within 5 minutes, clear it and reload the instance.

I'd play CQC if they put it in-game so I could fly to the various arenas, and if I was winged at the time, we'd stay winged for teams, or be in the same deathmatch. I think a lot more players would join if they could fly to the arena. It might also be fun to watch the matches as spectators from outside the boundary before joining. I think there would be a lot of activity around those systems.

I think the whole point is that you don't have to fly to somewhere in the game, you can access it anywhere. That said, I'd love to see the locations in the game, we know locations based on them are coming (asteroid bases and whatnot), but part of what I like about CQC is the ease of access. I don't have to fly umpteen Ly to play it, I mostly just want it to be more accessible, put the CQC queue button in my cockpit.

I wish they would put it into a completely different game! That way it would be easy for the adrenaline junkys to get their fix and I wouldn't have to be reminded in my cockpit how much I suck at it. LOL!
