I think most people agree that it's very likely a binary number system.

...............................

Hm, don't get me wrong, i don't know it either, but i do disagree, at least for some part.
Every few hundred postings, people tend to "forget" that the so called "binary code" is not consistent in the picture.

The top left and right uses dashes "-" , where the lower left and right signs are shown with dots "." .

For me it is hard to believe that this is just "noise" or "coinicidence".

So yes, maybe binary, but not all of it.

(i'm personally not even 1% "sure" that it is kind of binary)

just my 2 cents

Just something I remembered: Didn't someone mention on the stream they have an 'angry UP' sound they were going to post up after the stream had finished, somewhere near the stream starting?

Wait...Wait...I just had a brilliant idea....Remember how UP convoys were talking about Orbital testing in i think "alpha and now heading towards beta site" Maybe this is our new hint?
Its possible while they were testing(even if its a completly different system) they found ideal locations for bases and now after the (Cg i think?) we have them in the "testing" locations?
Together with the image these are the only clues the game provides, plus have the location of the convoys. We should focus on that. The basic unknown is the location where to apply the instrucition from the image. Since our interaction with the probe is very limited, it is very likely we need to honk at it in a specific location, most probably in orbit of some planet or moon. Can we determine, where "beta site" is?

Just a remark regarding Educating Ed the other day.

At 58mins 40secs Ed is asked if he has any ideas.

At 59mins 20secs Ed says "you're trying things in different locations and I think that's important"

Just checking we have noted this and the way it's said......could be nothing. ;)

Apologies if this had been mentioned.

I'm 5k ly out from anywhere but I did notice this. By the time I get back I should have Palin's racks unlocked. At that point I'll hunt a UP of my own and basically just travel to various places testing it. I did convince me that location is important.

Cheers, I knew he said something about locations, but could recall the exact words. I asked ages ago so thanks for posting.

So I checked out the Federal Incursion yesterday and today. Tried mapping the locations Jmanis found. Incidentally I did not find any free floaters in Hyades Sector AB-W B2-2 ( It was on the upper edge of the UA shell 145 something ly) - I didnt stay super long though either. Was hoping there was a pattern beyond the "stepping stones" that might give us some ideas about UP locations ... The only thing I noticed was that the progression of stations didn't follow in order from Fed Space to the Pleiades ... Alpha Outpost is in the middle.

Straight to the front page

Netslayer and Myself tried to reproduce the angry sound in the same location 5 times, We both think it was some kind of bug, I'l ask Net if he can post it up to the thread.

Hello Doctor!
The UP has already benn honked in many different locations, without any change on the spectrogram.
That does not mean that we need to go deeper on that. I strongly support this line of thought myself.
The very big issue is, it's hard to do this with no UPs at all :D

The thing all of us should be doing is trying to locate where free floating UP are. Then the feast could begin.

Anyway we are in August, when many people, me included, got holidays, so it is very normal that the thread is calming down a bit.

SERVICE INFORMATION:
I left the seaside and I have a couple days at home where I am able to update the Frontpage, before going on holidays again for another couple weeks: to the Alps this time (from sea to mountains, from Sicily to Alps (Dolomites), from South to North, from 30° to 10°).
So if you think something should go on the Front Page, please tell me now.
I've already added a couple of relevant images and news.

I don't think it's necessarily a change in the spectrogram we're looking for. It appears that testing it in different locations more likely relates to the natural wails that it makes.

*Edit* Or maybe even what happens in general when you honk it... One thing I did find interesting about the livestream was that Delmonte said to me that the limit of the effect was 300m and it hadn't affected his ship at that distance previously. However when we were around Earth and I parked myself at 300, it disabled my ship but didn't move me at all... Now was this because of the location that we were scanning it in, or maybe the fact I was in an Asp not an Anaconda (though I can't see why ship type would stop it disabling the systems).

Indeed, lets hope it isn't too long before they are roaming free.

BTW May I take this opportunity to thank you publicly for taking over running these threads and doing such a sterling job. [up]

Hm, pretty sure you mean 300m, right?

Could just be a matter of meters, the Conda is longer than the ASP and if it takes the center of the ship as a range limit that could make the difference.

Hehe, well spotted cheers, I've edited it.

Ed has no inside knowledge of what the Devs have planned, so he is only making an educated/logical guess

So, it may or may not have an impact on testing things out... but it does seem like the logical thing to do

Was testing a theory that the convoys *should* be heading TO or FROM someplace in particular, I was looking in Ross 41 (not Ross 47) and found a "Convoy dispersal pattern threat 4" in that system. Popped in, scanned the 3 ships I could see and found nothing interesting in any of them. Then noticed a high wake far ahead. Apparently, there had been a fourth ship far enough away that I hadn't even known it was there, darn it. Obviously, had no chance to scan it to see if it had anything of interest (like a UP!)

Do we know that threat 4 convoys dispersals always have UPs? If so, then this would seem to indicate that UPs could also be found in this system. Will keep looking and hope I find another so I can try scanning again to confirm if UPs are available in this system or not.

(Was trying to follow a line "outwards" from Sol in the general direction that other UP convoys have been found.)

P.S. I do have video evidence of the threat 4 convoy spawning in Ross 41, just no evidence that that convoy contained a UP.

To be honest if you watch his reaction to being put on the spot there are only two possibles.....he does know something and really didn't want to ruin it, or he knows nothing but for some reason he was acting like he did. Interesting/useful or odd....one way or the other. :D

Worth also noting his reluctance to shoot one in earth orbit, now as this hasn't caused some kind of in game calamity on earth (so far) it's difficult to interpret his reactions and leaves us taking everything with a pinch of salt........as he/frontier could just well be trying to fan the flames of intrigue given that this whole thing is making news headlines for them. ;)

Ahh well over a year later and how much and how little has changed.
