List of other Oculus/Vive Games that are good (v2)

DCS World is an amazing experience in VR. Given it is free and includes a free P51 Mustang trainer and Su25T Russian attack jet that are both fully modeled, there is no excuse not to try it. Oculus native support and a pixel density slider coming at the weeks end illustrates the commitment DCS has to VR.
I haven't tried War Thunder in VR but will and expect it will look great. Having flown everything pretty much worth flying since SubLogic first wrote Flightsim back in 1975, I have to say that if you really want to feel what it is like to be in a WW2 aircraft then ---DCS

Although Project Cars is surely fun when it comes to driving, IRacing it the pinnacle. With native Oculus support , as well as, a new DX11 engine this drive is as smooth as a babies bottom. The sense of depth to the corner is sublime. My racing lines have improved dramatically in VR. What a rush.

I too am disappointed with Vorpx. I do enjoy Skyrim, Portal, Black Mesa and Half-Life 2, so I guess I'll live with the purchase, but the program isn't high on my recommend list.

Adrift is quite good and gorgeous to look at. EVE Valkyrie is pretty but after so much time in all that is Elite, it just doesn't do anything for me.

I tried both DCS and warthunder and prefer warthunder.
I found DCS not as well optimized as warthunder. You really need a powerful PC. I have i5 and strix GTX970 which shows very much stuttering. Warthunder on the other hand much mcuh smoother. Also DCS not enough online players(compared to warthunder) and found that even though it suppose to be more true sim, you can fly thru trees and buildings as if they are not there.- what's up with that? Needless to say I unsunstalled it.

DCS is tough on a GTX 970 and as the engine is moving to higher GPU dependence you would find it juddery on that card. The trees will be fixed in 2.0
It is too bad you can't run it as the flight models are extremely accurate unlike War Thunder which is just too arcade like for my tastes. a chacun son gout

What I wouldn't give for a version of IL2 with the SAS mod that plays in VR....

If you like scary, make sure you check out Dread Halls and Town of Light.

Not exactly the same thing, but Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad got SteamVR support today. You need to edit a config file for it to work. I only have up to 1946, so I may pick this one up if the performance is good with an Oculus Rift.

I pretty much bought a VR set for elite only. Not to seem overly critical, but neither headset has any other 'serious' games that you would want to sink some crazy hours into. They are mostly fun mini games. The only way around it is to use hacks to play non-vr games which can be pretty hit or miss.

have you not been readimg previous posts? There are quite a few full fledged games besides ED like warthunder and DCS that are VR ready, and more shortly!

True, DCS has a little better flight characterisics than warthunder, but the difference in WT (in sim mode-full-realism mode that is) is not that much--Definitely NOT "arcadey". I fly real airplanes in real life so I can vouch here for this! ...but as you say a chacun a son gout ; )

I agree with the War Thunder statements. It also has a nice and simple (PvE & PvP) mission editor plus a dynamic campaign. Combined with a multitude of settings in terms of realism the game's a blast with the Rift. Beautiful cockpits and planes and a very decent scenery provide you with a very pleasing VR experience at little to no cost. If you want to fly some of the more modern planes you have to unlock them actually playing the PvP part of the game which is a bit annoying as the time to unlock is pretty steep.

Oh and tanks... you could also drive tanks through a pretty neat landscape but you don't really have an edge using the Rift.

In general though the Rift will put you at a disadvantage in any of the PvP modes, since the still somewhat mediocre resolution of the current gen HMDs makes it hard to spot planes or tanks at a distance unless you have the target markers on (only in arcade modes). Even in realistic modes a high res monitor plus TrackIR is more competitive.

I disagree! Even with the "mediocre" graphics I definitely find using VR in Warthunder an ADVANTAGE simply becuase of situational awareness. When I used to play WT using flat 2D 46" monitor I barely used to make a kill in a week of playing. Now with my DK2 (using 1.5 pixeldensity) I ALWAYS have at least 2kills EVERY SINGLE TIME I play in sim mode(and using hotas) and am usually in the top 2 in all my matches. The trick is to get up closer to the ennemy before shooting (which is what the ww2 real pilots did in real-life). Spotting ground targets like aaa however is another story.

I have an 980ti and even with all in low.. there is a lot of stutter. Was searching in Forums and seems the support is still in develompent, hope they make it playable because it looks awesome

not at all, if you play in arcade mode, of course... but in simulation mode playing with the rift is a clear advantage.. now i'm starting to feel competitive (i already had a track IR).

About the resolution is even better for finding targets in the rift... with Hd and ultra HD in a monitor is really difficult to find an enemy because it's literally a pixel in the screen, and when it's against the background is almost invisible until it is in front of you or in your tail, many people play in simulation mode without antialiasing and lower resolution to make targets in distance more visible,,

With the rift they are clearly visible from distance and the 3D and deep sense makes more visible too what is a spot moving and what is some static element of the background. Also i don't know how to explain it but i know better where to shoot and where my enemy is all the time.... much better than the track IR.

Again, all this is for simulation mode,, don't play in arcade or realistic against airplane toy pilots..i mean, those who only use external views, keyboard & mouse.

EXACTLY agree with you good sir!

I have a 970 GTX and I can play it just fine? I've set some settings to medium but it still looks awesome and runs fine. I'm using a CV1, not a Vive.

A little better? LOL. Gaijin licensed the Il2 engine to create Wings of Prey. By the time they got through dumbing down the flight model it had become a shadow of its former self. War Thunder flies (even in Sim mode) with the same exact lack of conviction as its predecessor. Much of DCS's PFM has to do with the detail that goes into the aircraft themselves. The DCS P51 was modeled because they own a real one and wanted to see how close they could get and according to their pilot and many other real pilots, it is as close as you can get on a computer. War Thunder's P51 has many glaring recovery issues in it's flight model. It's a toy game.

I was looking at ADR1FT, but it was only for the Rift. Saw it was on 50% off Steam sale and spotted a post saying Vive was in the cards soon. Bought it without a second thought. Looks like a decent game. ]

I only have a GTX 780, and ADR1FT stutters quite bad at times, caused quite much motion sickness for me. Maybe there is a way to tone down graphics settings to make it run smoother though(?)

Is anyone else having fun with Mountain Goat Mountain? I saw that it cost nothing and so I downloaded it. It's quite a nifty little game that's well worth the asking price, a few minutes of my download time.

Just played dirt rally. Christ!. In terms of vr being a game changer imo ED has a rival. Banging round in my 1960s mini is stunning

Tempted by pcars or Dirt. But like ED I really suspect playing these with just a gamepad would be less awesome.
I have been looking at wheels but I don't really do racing games so seems a little steep for something I might not play two weeks out.

Other rift game I have is Adr1ft.
It's the perfect game if you ever wanted to be a tiny Asian woman.
Who's lost in orbit in a very Leake spacesuit.
With the task of rebooting the dumbest escape pod system designed.

I generally liked it and I think I missed my calling as a space man.

+1

I pretty much said the same on the Dirt Rally forum. ED and DR are without a doubt the pinacle of immersion when you add the hardware to mix.

Within the limitations of rally driving you only really need to worry about the road, the immediate surroundings and the car. With a medium spec wheel or greater, I can't see how it will get any better. The wheel physics, sound, graphics and immersion factor is mindblowing.

Believe it or not Euro Truck Simulator 2 is also suprisingly catharic. VR and wheel required ofc. :)
