Phew, well +1 UP recovered. :)

Almost 3 weeks solid looking, 3 lost UPs, successful retrieval on the 4th. :)

Bit shellshocked, need to lie down, when it pops such an adrenaline rush due to the time invested.

I'm really out of the loop with UPs, this thread is just too much to follow.

Will review the 1st page then commence experimentation, as per the old UA days.

I guess step 1 is to grind rep for Palin first for special cargo bays?

Fantastic work! not much been going on here i think Riz has a few ideas for tests.

Repped

Ok, some notes.....

Anecdotally, my feeling is the UP spawn rate may have been upped over this weekend.

Aye it's not evidence, it's just the observation of one person (look up anectode!) but :

- 19th started hunting
- 1st encounter, 28th July
- 2nd, 7th Aug morning
- 3rd, 7th Aug late evening
- 4th, 10th Aug late evening

I don't know, it's really hard to say, it's totally possible as time went on I paid more attention to spawns hence frequency increased (I got more persistant). This totally became a grudge thing, I nearly gave up after the first loss but it became personal. Some sunk cost thing going on I think.

Saw quite a few people turn up with various loadouts.

My loadout evolved over time.

Final loadout had 3x 5A hatchbreakers!! (4 HBs was overkill). Just spam hatchbreaker limpets.

No other loadouts I saw had multiple hatchbreakers, to my mind they really help.

Well done Commander. Guess they aren't all dried up after all.

Care to make a more detailed report that I can fit into the UP Locator Spreadsheet? Oh, and pictures (or better yet video!) would be nice for documentation.
Thanks!

That... is a very long time. Good job on grabbing one. And congratulations on the patience. At least we know they are still out there in convoys. Just really hard to get.

I am currently in possession of the CRCRs (yay me!), so I will be spending my next game sessions searching for the UP    . In regards to that, I have a question for those who have searched for UA    . How long does it "usually" take before the first Anomaly USS shows up? I know there are extremes like "immediately" or "4 hours", but I am looking for a good figure to set as my time spent in each system.
I have a 91 jump(!) route set, and I really hope I don't have to spend more than two hours in each system. So currently I am spending around 30 minutes, or longer if it is a system I haven't been to and it takes longer to scan all the bodies while I am looking for USSs.
Anyone care to give me a rough idea on how long I really should be spending in a system and consider it "good enough"? I know that ain't perfect, but for that to happen we would send out every single commander to a system each and have them spend a day there each. "Nothing found in a day, move on to your secondary system soldier!" ;)

Any tips and tricks are appreciated. Except location ofcourse, I'll decide that tyvm! :)

Average UA spawn in the shell seems 5-10 minutes. Some may be more. Some almost instant. Most of the ones I've grabbed lately have been within 10 minutes.

WHERE

3302-08-10 16:27:00 Two attempts done 12,0 LS and 12,5 LS Distance to Singularity, Jump Target excatly behind, no effects, normal jumps
Next try, drop out of LS into normal space, Distance Singularity 30 Km -> the Event-Horizon is dealt with by on-board computer like a surface of ordinary body, it shadows the target.
Hence position my ship that way that the target was just (a scratch) above the Horizon, pointed my ship on center of Black Hole, loaded FSD and hit 100% thrust -> Heat Alarm *yawn* and the message in top right panel "You try to enter restricted Space" !!!!
Is that normal ?

any update on this one?

I've spent enough time in each system to scan its objects. That's usually more than enough if it's actually in the shell and it has more than 1 or 2 objects.

I found one of those huge wreck sites, ehile searchng for UP today.

Rescue 1 said: 'More than 300 people on this one, before it exploded. Keep searchng.'

Nasty stuff.

Can do.

No video, I did make a point of trying to get one but shadow play gave me nothing. Shame because I know how important video can be coming out of the UA experiment. =(

I'm using ED in windowed mode, I had to have a web browser with all the camping required.. Shadowplay has a tickbox which claims to record the full desktop but as I say it didn't write the file after I hit the key shortcuts. I do have a 33mb file which is just after the event and no use to anyone.

Not sure you'd want to see it anyway, I abused the chuff out of the game mechanics to retrieve this UP, it wasn't pretty. =p But given the time investment, and 3 failures, well stuff it!

ALL 4 UPs were found by just circling A8 close to the rings in Ross 47.

Pretty sure encounters 2,3 & 4 were "G 99-49 Life Industry" since I could infer this from the subsequent fines.

Unfortunately I can't tell you much about the overall structure of what I encountered, but I'm pretty sure on UP 3 & 4 the Python itself was in a wing of 3. Of course there may have been multiple wings in the whole group.

1st encounter I was a wing of one, subsequents 3 encounters a wing of 2.

You have the dates already.

In "hind sector fw-w d1-9" I got one like each 1 to 5 minutes after jumping to SC.

Sounds like my 30 minutes, or all bodies scanned if that takes longer, is plenty then. I'll stick with that. Thanks a lot!

Every time I myself was in a wing of 2.
Thanks! I'll get it added to the spreadsheet.
And now we're waiting for pictures of the elusive UP ;)

I disagree, Surely in OOJ they would be completely separate objects, that perhaps their separate classes are children to a single basic parent class appearance wise, though they still remain separate objects and one can't simply change the parent class behaviour and attributes for all derivative objects and thus it's illogical to consider this a bug surely? So therefore I would suggest it's definitively intentional.

Very well said LOL

any update on this one?
Nope -- that was all the tests i did. And as I just ground my ASP, neither I have UA/UP in posession nor
the capability to store ..... just now scanned the whole Coalsack Systems, but so far nothing suspicious found (neither suitable planets/moons for Barnacles nor Unknown signals).

Was a low shot anyway as the Plejades are a young, hot Gas nebula, whereas the Coalsack is a dustcloud.
Will work my way through Catpawn Nebula, NGC 6357 and so on - corewards, first of all as I anyway want go that direcdtion, secondary as some suspected that Barnacles / UA / UP are related to Nebulae and third, it´s another way to read the sound-diagram. UA´s point to Merope, UP´s to 5C, Barnacles found there. What if this way the starting-point of the vector pointing inwards (Sag A?) is defined by UA/UP. Orientation of big and small Magellanic Cloud would fit to that. And along the vector looking for B-Class Systems and/or Stone-Planets/-Moons of Merope 5C type.
Wild theory though [haha] but as I have nbothing better to do and can grind some cash for Conda ;).......
I´ll stay in touch and inform here and then

And now we're waiting for pictures of the elusive UP ;)

Here ya go! 10MB, sorry. =p

uc

I'm sure absolutely everything has been talked about but interesting the sparklies are red and match the head colour.

Makes me wonder if we'll find a red sparky barnacle type. The current ones emit blue sparklies I think.

Won't call myself an expert but I got 3 in the same system within 10 minutes just now by just heading directly at Merope from the star of system I'm in. I can't say whether that makes any difference but I have never struggled finding UAs once in "deep space"
