Listen, every day now, from the moment i downloaded the game, to now which has been about a month, ive been disconnecting upwards of 8 times every day i play it and i want to know WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?! Why am I disconnecting so dang much?! This is seriously affecting my gameplay and its causing me to not even want to play this game anymore or even reccomend it to other people, and I GREATLY enjoy this game when its working. Ive tried going to the bug forums to no avail, none of my topics have been even brought up on bug thread to even be talked about. I live in america if that makes any sort of difference. Im extremely frustrated and i want to know why im disconnecting so much? I dont disconnect on ANY other game this frequently. Yes i'll have the occassional disconnect on some of my other games but that is in the allowable amount of at MOST 2 times per day. The disconnects mainly happen when im jumping between systems, wing or no wing. I want an answer and I want it fast, after a month of this happening im seriously frustrated!
The problem is unlikely to be the game or FD's servers. The logic behind that statement is that if it were either of those two then everyone would be experiencing the same thing you are finding. Since other commanders, including myself, are not having the problem we can tentatively say that it is either your equipment or the Internet. Now, you have said that you have checked your equipment and assuming that you know how to do this and have dealt with issues like port forwarding and disabling PnP, then that leaves the Internet.
Despite the seemingly good values you showed in the graphic you posted, that really tells you nothing. Looks good but that is all. The only way that this would be of possible use would be if the test were not only between you and the FD servers but also the routes followed by the test packets were exactly the same as the ones that the Elite packets followed. Otherwise, it's meaningless in this instance. It's also missing other vital diagnostic values such as jitter, lag and packet loss.
All it takes is one doggy piece of kit or connection between your router and the servers at FD on the main route and you're stuffed. Other games work ok? That's because the routes taken for the packets between you and the other game servers is different than the ones between you and FD. We can surmise further. If other games are working well for you, then it's probably not the line between you and your telephone exchange as that is fixed.
Here's a possible test. Do you know anyone locally that plays Elite that is not having the same problems? If so, then take your kit to their place and set it up using their Internet and see what happens. If not, then do you know anyone with a different ISP to you that you could try your kit on? Or do you have a mobile ISP connection that you can use temporary as an Internet tether that uses a different ISP to the one your fixed line uses?
If you use a different ISP or a known good connection and the problem goes away, then it's likely to be an Internet issue and there's not a lot you can do about it except try changing your ISP.
If the problem does not go away and you have checked it on a known good connection of someone who plays Elite and does not have the problem then it's your kit.
One final thing, if you phone up someone and the line is so full of static, crackle and noise so that you can't understand the person at the other end, do you rant and rail at them for not speaking correctly? Or blame the telephone? Or demand that they do something about their "faulty" equipment? No, you don't. You know that it's a bad line and try a mobile instead. Well, that's what you are doing with your "throw-your-rattle-out-of-the-pram" rant.
