yeah, the planets between the bubble and the shell have hundreds of players going through them all the time, someone would have stumbled on the UP "Hive" by now if it was there.

Certainly it's a clue, but I think it is specifically a key in the sense of one of the three. Cryptography, a lock, or map key. I'm leaning towards map.

Try to jump to those systems with UP onboard? Maybe it unlocks access?
Not sure the free floaters will be in the permit locked region if you need a UP to access it in the first place, as it's implied the UP's recovered so far (from the convoys) were the harder versions to get. I'm not saying they're not the key to the permit locked region, but I'm guessing the region isn't exclusively the place where we'll find them.
Do you have the numbers for traffic following a precise path from merope to a nebula since the appearance of UP convoys? And do you also have confirmation they stopped and waited in every system on the way?
We are scientists here, baseless assumptions that prevent proper testing could prevent us finding a target. I'm proposing a documented test. No guesswork.
really? I was providing a couple of ideas as to why I didn't think they would be found. I didn't say you shouldn't look. In fact I almost put a sentence at the end saying "I'm glad you're looking though because it will cover all the bases". I didn't though because I'm typing on mobile and I was being lazy. Now I have typed a lot more just to assure you that I support your search, despite a differing opinion.
I am am sorry if you thought I was discouraging you. The more people we have doing different things the better off we are.
The question being, if It's a map key, where is the map and if it's a cypher key, where is the cyphered text ?
This is drivin' me nuts XD
But my gut feel at the moment is for a map key somehow.

You can get UP's from convoys. Its just the free floating UP's that we cant find.
While it's nice to get input from FDev, it hasn't really helped. People have been exploring the idea of it being a key since the clue first appeared.
Or if it's a lock key, where's the door? Although I feel that's more unlikely. I agree though, this is what bothers me too. A key without a lock, a key without a map, and a key without encrypted code is fairly useless
We need to figure out what the second part is before trying to solve how the key fits into it.No hard feelings, just a misunderstanding . But seriously traffic data would be awesome.
Yeah, I know. 75% of ideas are using it as a key from the start. The "key" hint is a bit meh as far as usefull hints go XD

Yeah the only indicator of traffic (and not a reliable one) is if the system has had all the planets discovered, and I think if we are this close to the bubble most of them will be. I'm going to try searching in a direction perpendicular to the line drawn from sol to merope, about 250 LY out. Probably will find nothing but worth a try.
