Indeed - I know others have provided maps; but I was making mine before I saw this thread so you have to see mine as well But this is what is confusing me on where to look, it isn't clear at all - or even for what. But here I am looking I chased a purple background image for about an hour last night before I realized I wasn't getting closer.... I'm loosing it out here!!!


Looking below, the Formidine rift doesn't start until after the edge of the Perseus Arm (A) - the Outer Arm (B) begins after crossing the rift.

In this context the quote from the Old Woman: "Edge of the galactic arm. Take a line from Reorte to Riedquat to the edge of the arm and … keep going" - she is simply advising on where to find the rift. It's right past the edge of the galactic (Perseus) arm, of which the rift's location was confirmed by Drew as well.

It's not until the next passage that says where to look:

‘Once you reach the rift you’re going to have to plot a way across. There are no stars for dozens of light years and the dark systems haven’t been mapped, so take your time, watch your six.’ The woman leaned in closer to the recording device. ‘What’s there? Wish I could tell you, but they edited my memory pretty good, took me long enough to stitch this lot back together. Whatever it is, it’s something that Galcop, the Imps and the Feds don’t want us to see. Good luck, and … right on, Commander.’


So in that context - we know we have to cross the rift to find.... whatever it is. Crossing the rift puts you at the Outer Arm.... So is it the far end of the rift to search or the edge of the outer arm just past the rift..... I just don't know.

I agree although she never states whether she makes it across fully.

It could well be half way across.

Mapping the rift at 27 max ly is prob the best option.

The rift is long so finding the starting point may also be important.

It may be what we are looking for is along one unique path across the rift.

Good analysis.. all I needed to see is for her to say to "CROSS" the rift. That means our target is on the other side where the troll face is.

And we are relying on the word of a potentially schizophrenic Imperial senator who has both her own motivations (potentially nefarious in and of themselves) and who may in fact be being manipulated or misled by other dark forces. Yeah, that pretty much covers it. ;-)

Reading it and looking at the map, I get more and more drawn to the 'rift' that cuts trough the Perseus arm, just east of Wayfarer's.

What's bothering me is why Kahina decided to demote herself to Salome. In my mind, Kahina, with her Imperial title, has more resourses to achieve her goal of finding the Rift than Salome and her COR band will ever have. Why did she willingly(?) strip herself of power? Unless the Imperials are behind the cover up of the RIft mystery and she wanted to get away from them.

I had thought she (the old lady) may have edited her own memories to keep the knowledge secret but this doesn't make much sense since people in all the major governments know about it and are keeping it secret from the public. The governments dont need to gleen anything from her, they need to contain her.

The only way editing her own memories would make sense is if she after initially seeing what she saw, agreed with the governments in that this should be kept secret and was afraid some private party would try to force her to divulge what she saw. So for this argument to be true, we're actually doing exactly the opposite of what we should be doing because making whatever is out here public, was so dangerous that the old lady removed the knowledge from her own mind so it couldn't be done. In other words, we should stop exploration in the area for the benefit of mankind like the major powers have been trying to do for at least a hundred years.

Since we're obviously being encouraged to explore the area, the argument for self-editing must be false or we're being led to make an enormous mistake.

During both their trips home their imaginations grew into what they manifest today causing us all to run like hell to find what they see even though they only seen the ugliness of each other and after freeze dried food loneliness and water that grew into what we read they have found

Although this isn't the case (At-least i hope not) It would make for some pretty funny story's, questions and many, many marketing schemes such as

"FD Devs and Book Author Drew Wagar troll players since Gamma with "Fake Aliens" After more than two years and billions of systems FD released a statement on April fools of 2017 to say hey guys guess what solve this morse code that we have hidden. After 3 days of searching the Morse turned out to be "April fools the rift was a prank, Got ya mutha     as."

I would totally laugh about this. Afterall, it's not like this search has yielded me nothing. In fact, I'll probably end up hitting Elite Explorer running around this particular galactic arm as much as I will have at that point.

My take on this is you need to get across the rift first. What's got me is someone has already done the R&R line all the way out to the edge. There track is very close to the line, I'm starting to wondering if it was a bit too clean. I mean what would be the chance that two starts fall on the exact line and what ever is out there at such distance?

Also alot the galaxy was shifted to the left recently for some changes in systems and whatever else near the loop and across that way maybe they are realigning the rift to this change

Obviously a game with no instructions you make your own path, but openly allowing and even supporting people pursuing that route based on canon would be pretty irresponsible, and a good way to distance players. On a side note No Mans Sky is not as good as elite, and although I am enjoying it, I don't think it can replace ED if they keep pushing out updates.

Out around the Shadgoea region heading directly south from the galactic core/Eafots region out across the rift.

I have a 49.8ly jump range so I am making good ground and should hot the galactic edge by tomorrow evening.

Once I hit the end of the galactic rim, I plan to move inwards along the arm close to the rifts edge and spiral inwards in the opposite direction of the bubble.

There are some really stunning sights out here...but it sure is lonely...

ANOTHER EDIT: It's almost definitely a bug.

Jumped into Hypiae Aim PU-Z b55-0 and was immediately greeted with a short, repeating "buzz warp" sound about every 6-7 seconds. I'm not sure if it was an audio glitch. I was not able to reproduce the results by jumping out of supercruise into normal space and then back in. Jumping back to the system from another did not bring the sound back. The system is located close enough to the Formidine Rift that I figured I'd share this with the thread.

EDIT: Nothing out of the ordinary in the system. Just some landable planets. I'll jump back and do a more thorough scan of the system.

Gal dang, alrighty. I figured with the "listening posts" set up around the Rift, along with being relatively near/in the Rift, it had a slim chance of being something other than a glitch.
