Bearing in mind that there's probably more involved with sifting through the myriad of articles on the front page, and knowing the response people get when they could have found what they needed on it eventually...than there was to simply checking a systems commodity market...nope.

If that was someone's first contribution to the thread I'm sure they'd have gotten a sharper response from more people, but because Sterlino has been around a while everyone turns a blind eye.

I like to think I'm an equal opportunity rager, nobody escapes when it's justified :)

In other news I've been up since 4am on three hours sleep, and it won't take much to set me off, so apologies for that.

Here are the latest ravings of a man who has spent the day stripping wallpaper.


Working on the thought that the Feds have had the UPs longer than we have and may have actually decoded the image this is what I've come up wth.


We have been looking at the image all wrong, ie. its upside down. So if we turn it the right way up the binary numbers now become 4 1 2 6.


The probe points to Merope 5c so that is the centre of the image.


Starting in the top left we looking for a system within 4 short Star Jumps from Merope.


Bottom Left this system has 6 orbiting bodies around its main star.


Bottom Right the system has 2 stars.


Top Right the planet we are looking for has 2 large asteriod impact craters on it.


If I am right is this why there is now a Federation base on HIP 17225 A 1.






I must lie down now the doctors think I've being overdoing it.

Dumb question - and I know its probably been asked but I don't see an answer.

Has anyone tries to unlock Polaris with a UP? Or Unveil something there? Someone has supercruised to it before.

Note squares are 20 deg latitude and 20 deg longitude if looked at like a globe.

Now the question on where to look....Pleiades, Bernard's Nebula, etc.

I like the idea.

But if |-- is one, and -|- two, how can -|| be three? THree would be ||-?

It can surely only be :
--| 1
-|- 2
-|| 3?

Look it up.. someone did it. But there was no star. It does need to load the new system in. But for s n g's why not honk the thing outide polaris or try to jump to it. I can't find anywhere on google or forums that anyone has tried it. Its the one system that is locked pretty much without a permit that isn't a swath of stars.

Also the last star the Thargoids were at..

It's binary and binary counting. The least significant digit is the furthest right and you carry the one much like traditional math.

| = 1
|- = 2 = 10
|| = 3 = 11
|-- = 4 = 100

Of course you can supercruise until you are theoretically in the system, but aren't really. You are still in the old system. Try it with some system you already have permission to hyperjump to. You will not get there. No stars, no planets, no moons, no stations. I tried it some time ago (but I must admit, not Polaris).

One way to look at this is to read the numbers from the center of the circle (like you are standing on the origin 0,0 latitude, longitude). With the present orientation,
-|- =2 and -|| =3. Then from the origin (flipping the diagram) looking towards the other two numbers, |-- =4 and --| =1. Here 1 and 4 would be flipped if looking at the diagram the normal way. But for aliens, who knows how they read?

A second way to look at this is just to look for the planet with the four characteristics listed. There is no particular step order needed, but finding planet with the correct orbital inclination is the most challenging. There are many ringed planets orbiting larger ringed planets, now need to find the right one. I encountered a few, but not with all the for characteristics.

Easy:
The cyphered message is the UP Transmission, the Purrs/Tuba sounds, while the drawing and the glyphs in it are the key to decode them. ;)
