So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

You've all seen Drew's blog post from earlier today?

http://www.drewwagar.com/progress-report/tionisla-a-little-background/

I ran the link video file through a morse converter and it came out with the following:

OTSEAFOTSEETFOTITT T ETITETT TMTS E TTETNATTTI E TITEMT T E T ET RTMTE E T E M TTT TTTI EI E TEROTSEA *fades out to silence*

Which seems to be a carry on from the message left at Tionisla: OTSEAFOTSEAF except for the two underlined letters (my underlining).

I could see if anyone had converted it yet, so thought I would add it to the thread.

Except that video was made by someone in this thread. It wasn't made by Drew and should be considered purely a dramatization.

I have a g5 FSD upgrade on an a fit Anny and I get 30. How'd you manage that range?

I don't know, level 3 upgrades, A class everything, lightest everything else except weapons, and I carry no extra fuel. Dangerous prospect, since I can only do 3 full power jumps to a tank. Most of my internals are cargo racks that take up no weight unless loaded.

Then you'll probably enjoy this...

Kahina/Salome and Duality

Duality is a common theme in Greek (and other) mythology. For example, Persephone is both goddess of the Underworld (death) and Spring (rebirth and vitality) - two diametrically opposed concepts.

It is possible to read Reclamation as Kahina's transition from the haughty, aloof daughter of an Imperial Senator to a more compassionate and inclusive personality, in the form of Salome. As Kahina resurfaces from Salome's lost memories, her personality changes and she becomes more demanding and domineering, but ultimately reverts back to Salome.

Subsequent to the book, it seems that these two sides of Kahina/Salome are still struggling to find an equilibrium or coherent personality.
Who is to say which one will ultimately become dominant, or whether a balance will be struck between the two?

In the meantime, do not forget that Salome is still, ultimately, an Imperial Senator, with the arrogance and sense of entitlement which was instilled into her from birth.
This is manifest in the address to the Children of Raxxla, which, whilst delivered under the name Salome, is a much more 'political' statement, almost a call-to-arms - something much more in keeping with the attitude of an Imperial Senator seeking to establish a power base, than with a starship pilot looking for adventure.
It's worth considering that 'Salome the rebel' has much more appeal to the those of us seeking to uncover a mystery that the authorities wish to keep secret than 'Kahina the Senator' would ever have - it's a very convenient disguise for someone interested in taking power for themselves...

So ask yourselves this:
Are you here to solve the mystery, or to help Salome find it?

Interesting question indeed. But to me, only plot-wise. Because I believe the story will likely run its course regardless of our interference. The only control we have in it is the pacing (imo). I have to say though I'm equally curious about the mystery itself as to Salomé's real intentions.

(oh, aside from that: I can't but distance myself from your narrow-minded and prejudiced view of Imperial character traits ;) Seriously though, I like Salomé a lot more than I do Kahina, but we'll find out which side of her will prevail)

You're doing it wrong. "Two Cents," my warfit Conda has 29.3 LY jump range. You give up around 14 LY for the security and sanity that "many guns and shields" brings when your roaming around the black!

I'll have to take another look, maybe there's something I'm missing to save weight. I do have 4 A class shield boosters, which can't help, but it's nice to be effectively a fortress in space.

That video was made by a player dude who put EAFOTS in there after the galnet article and drew then asked could he use it for his blog :p good thinking though

Right.

Found something interesting.

You will need to look visually first. You are looking for a group of 4 stars. 3 forming a triangle with one at the centre. They look somewhat like a target.

They are visible from the far side of the H&S nebula. (But not too far!) Ive seen em before, and they do make a striking pattern.

So far I have located the three outer stars. Go into the galmap, tag them and you will see the target visually when you come out.

The outer stars are:

Triangle Left: EAFOTS CA-A F1
Triangle Right: EAFOTS BA-A G2
Triangle Bottom EAFOTS AA-A G0

Eafots AA-A is a few hundred ly from CA and BA which are quite close. (Notice this A,B,C thing going on by the way?)

HOWEVER. THE CENTRAL STAR. WHATEVER THAT THING IS---ITS DARNED HUGE. Ive been a long, long way out and just CANNOT find it.

So, as I gotta go to work in a few hours feel free to see if you can find it in the Galmap!

Might be nothing, but you never know.

Gypsy out.

I replied in that thread, but the basic gist was, "How do you write it into the story, when the mission is supposed to be a secret?"

Yeah well in that case how do you write about us all searching for it :p is it just going to be this was found in bla bla when it is. I understand the whole story for it will be blurred but thats the problem so far its all thread related apart from the odd clue in galnet. But this needs more ingame related interest for all players unfortunatly its hard but it isnt sparking much interest as when it was first brought out :-(

What do you mean by outer star?? If you mean that by edge of eafots that is incorrect as eafots goes about 300 systems more across to the left.
Also the whole A-B-C naming is like that in all procedural generated systems.

Quick question: the trip to the Rift is a lonely one, and since I'd like to keep up to date, what Discord channel do us Rifters generally use?
DWE Fleetcom? CoR? Or another one? (because those first two, I'm already logged in to)

I think that has a lot to do with pacing. I would be happier, and I'm sure it would generate more interest, if there were more clues to work with. I'm not saying they need to be specific clues. But the pacing and number of clues could go up in order to continue interest in this puzzle. Especially if there was concrete "stuff" to find.

Again, nothing game breaking, but little clues found in perhaps systems in the bubble or other things that aren't tremendously hard to uncover. As long as the clues are confounding enough that we could fuel several investigative directions at once (most of them being wrong), and more are uncovered on a regular schedule, then it would continue to hook our attention.

Absolutely agree. My very first rant after finding the forums was to that effect. So many people playing the game don't realize all this is going on because there is no in game mechanism to support it. I found the forums by accident. Even if the game had a couple forum channels implemented from either the ship, or station where these conversations could be had in game.

I'm not sure we need more clues, outside of the story that's being provided, but more immersion would be nice.

It is just the repeating EAFOTS message. It was done by Jaiotu.

EDIT: Ninjed... a lot.

I agree that the story is going to happen regardless - but only up to a point.
If we, as players, keep failing to pick up on the relevant clues, I don't believe that Salome will eventually say "Ok guys, I found it, you can stop looking now" - without player involvement, the story won't reach it's climax.
I also believe that the plot is central to the Rift mystery - it's not a treasure hunt, where we keep getting "go here" clues - and until we understand the plot, we'll have no way of knowing what it is that we're looking for.

No disparagement of the average Imperial is intended - it's just the 'born to rule' families that I take issue with.

#TeamSalome ;)

The outer stars that form a triangle. With one in the middle. Looks like a target from a distance.

Yeah you see aparantly in the rift story we already have two listening posts in these nebulas so i dont understand how it can be a secret but not at the same time. all i know is there should be "ACTUAL" posts out there and not just shown on a map on an external site. We need to expand this story. Yes the clues are slow i like that but without more people to search from them it could be years before anything is found.

Agreed completely. But it is kind of a two way street; we won't push the story forward if we don't get involved, but for a couple of weeks (or even months?) it's been a bit quiet on the Rift-front. That was because there was just too little to work with. Lately the Galnet article has revived interest for a lot of people (I believe because we failed to 'trigger' that clue ourselves) I just hope by also looking at the motives Salomé, the Empire and the Federation might have, we will be able to push the story forward ourselves this time.

But thats just the thing isnt it. How do we trigger more clues if there isnt much ingame to trigger them. Unless everyone who is out there gets tracked and monitered there is no way any clues can be triggered. Also i beleive the EAFOTS clue was more to re-align the rift with the recent shifting of thousands of star systems to the left which might have caused the rift line to change.
