I must say that I cannot keep up with all the posts but I try to read at least the important ones. I don't know if anyone has noticed this before or if it has been discussed in earlier threads so I thought I would mention it.
I know that MB has said that some of the theories are quite close but most are way off.
I still have the feeling we are missing important info that must be in the image. Assuming the image is a message that was meant for us humans, Like we created the image on the Voyager, it would be unlikely that we need another image to complete the puzzle. It would be strange to send only half a message and expect the receivers to figure it out. So what I did the last couple of days, was to take a look at the image again starting from scratch. I created the image myself from the sound file (I did use an existing sound because I don't have a UP) to make sure no information was already lost in some enhancement process. I Gimped some enhancements and started looking at the parts of the image that are mostly left undiscussed. It seems that everybody is focusing on the sphere/circle so I focused on the right part with the two arc's in it. When I rotated the image 180 degrees (maybe the creators fancied high frequencies over low ones), I noticed a feature that looks like some text. It is unreadable but it certainly looks like it. Of course I have been staring at it for some days now so I see texts in every pixel. I might be my brain just wanting to see a pattern but I still want to share it with you guys. There are some more interesting patterns in that part of the image but I don't know what they would mean.
BTW IF the marks around the sphere are really binary numbers it makes sense to rotate the image 180 degrees. The top right translates to 1, bottom right to 2, bottom left to 3 and top left to 4. This matches the way quadrants are often numbered.
I have marked the area of interest with a red circle (bottom image) and placed an arrow pointing what might be a text.
If you also think the pattern, that the arrow is pointing to in the bottom image, is text, maybe someone recognizes a system, nebula or planet in the text.
