There is a problem with using the two lines as a pointer to H&S, as these nebulas have gal lng of 134° and 137° (so, 3-4° distance). Here we have a 30° distance.
(we can use gal coords centered on sol since D(sol,H&S) >> D (sol, merope)). So unless the circle is not a circle and so on, it would make little sense, IMO.

This article is a strong indication that the pre "Thargoid missions" part of the FFE lore is valid.

It's a nice solid article which sets down 'the truth' as it is known. The last sentence makes it clear the FD are acknowledging much of what went before, while allowing FD to put a new twist on things because prior 'facts' were rumour.

And INRA, and successful mycoid virus elimination of Thargoids. So war track of FFE (and related journals) is likely the official lore. Maybe. Would be nice to know officially what is canon in the old journals and missions and the like.

What would have been the harm in letting us know this when the game launched?

MB said barnacles were engineered off of an earlier lifeform species thing. What if the barnacles were created from thargoid dna so the federation and others in the know could develop thargoid technology by growing the technology and/or the materials to make it?

The UA and UP might not be thargoid at all. We might be seeing another alien species who knows about the thargoids and are wondering why thargoid technology is appearing again. So they sent out probes to find it and where it came from. Origin of UAs was around the Pleiades barnacle clusters and moved outward. Finding nothing concrete, so far, the more advanced probe came along. Something that reacts to a pulse seen from thargoid ships.

By pushing our tech closer towards thargoidishness, we may trigger the probe/artifacts thargoid detection meter and start something...

Could this be a hint that perhaps we have not yet seen the largest capitals that we will ever see? With new drives allowing larger ships to jump, a whole new era of warship could be on the horizon.
