Another thought:

If we're looking at a co-ordinate system, we need to identify some sort of audio reference for negative numbers, or a signed binary system which could explain large decimal numbers.

Or, perhaps the co-ordinates are in the form Heading, Azimuth, Distance?

I think you're wrong with this one. They are rotating the camera a little bit while going down and this gives the moving effect.

In the footage from the interview there was a Cobra in space that was glowing green so why not try and recreate that scenario? without the dying of course....

Jmanis pointed out that in Galmap undiscovered bodies have four parameters; just checked & they are: earth mass, radius, orbital period, semi major axis.
