Morning, Mr Grape.

I must admit that I was looking at my all weapons official stats thread yesterday and found myself remembering, with a hint of nostalgia, when DPS, EPS, DPE and all the rest of it were quite relevant to PvP combat.

I've been doing more PVP in the past few weeks than I ever did prior. Personally I'm loving every second of it :D I'm finding it fun to find the best the load out on my ship that best suits how I fly (drunk whale).

I can't really vote on that,
dodged a lot of fights lately.

The missile buff surely is something i anticipated a lot,
but my slow connection hardly lets me get fair fights, even in CqC due to P2P hit resolving.

I can't stand ships scoring hits on me, while they clearly shoot way above my location.

Before the 2.1 I thought, okay it's well balanced so the better Pilot will be the winner so when it happens it's happens then after 2.1 I avoid it where I can :)

It's fun to mod, and my Corvette and FDL are now nearly invincible (other than from heat) but tbh I'm not a huge fan of the heat meta. That and silent running is now gone (for the most part). PVP has turned into a "who's got a bigger gun contest" rather than something that requires skill and a carefully crafted build. Now its literally, throw on the biggest baddest gear you can roll, max out with either heat missiles or multicannons, throw on one corrosive multi cannon and you'll be the best. It was definitely more directed towards the PVE community.

I wonder if SR will be a thing on optimized ships to act as black ops carriers in 2.2 though.
Imagine you stealth around a belt and just employ fighters to hunt your targets from there.

Heat is a thing i want to test a bit, as i lack some real numbers on heat generated by
thermal cascade weaponry. It is good however that heat generated has been capped
and we have another tool to alleviate strong shields.

I wish we could go back to the point where there were no SCBs, no shield boosters, no HRPs.You know, when a trader could actually fight almost on equal terms against a pirate/murderer as long as both of them would rely on a strong shield, an armor, weapons and skills...
The deal for the trader was to sacrifice a few LYs jump range, and a few tons of cargo to be combat-ready.

In short: initially, everybody could PvP.
2.1 added one more time a bunch of stuff to increase the gap between PvP dedicated builds and the other builds.

The heat meta is terrible, and if you remove it, we will be back to an even worse shield / SCB meta with the stacked resistance mods.
...and...they killed silent running, which I used to love (and I never use FAoff + reverse at full speed, so it has never been a cancer from me)...
...as well as the shieldless builds which are non sense now due to the missile module damage buff, though I saw that one coming.

I gave up on PvP, as well as the game (got bored to do the same things over and over again, tired of pretending doing meaningful things) until things eventually change. I am not holding my breathe.

^^ All of this!

I rarely play ED these days. I might come back when 2.2 drops and try the new content. But I will most likely focus on PvE and stay well away from hostile players.

Shame, there was a time when I very much enjoyed PvP in this game. (Mind you I was never very good at it, but at least the gameplay felt somewhat skill based. When you lost a fair fight, the opponent was usually a better player, not just a more dedicated grinder).

There's PvP in ED ?

Thought it was all ganking :D  ;) :p

(Yes, I am joking .. no idea to the answer - fingers crossed people are still here to cause trouble in game for others :))

Overall good.

The highly customizable modules have added a lot of new doctrines and interesting builds plus the freedom to make something really unique.

Heat weapons however need to be removed as a mechanic, as they just weren't well thought out or implemented, and have no appropriate defensive counter.

Lastly, instancing is worse than ever, and is the big PvP issue that needs to be fixed.

greatly. I now know that if I come up against another pilot they might have all the engineer mods and there is no chance so it has kind of spoiled it for me. I try to get mods but it just takes such a lot of time that I become a bit tired.

If they had a scrap yard at certain places which sold modded FSD, weapon mounts etc that would be good. Then the engineers part would be more for tuning up your modded weapons so at least then it would give the casual gamers a taste of the better stuff.

It's funny to see some participation to the poll, but very little comments...
...not that I am pushing people to type depressing / whining comments of course... :) :-/

I stopped fishing for PvP since 2.1 hit.

Motivation dropped with the likelihood for a fun 1vs1 encounter. When I finally find someone it often turns out that loadout is way more important than flying...

I like that Elite was never about playing a role or picking a class like other MMO games. With engineers that has all changed... Now we have healers, tanks, and damage dealers.

I liked the idea of new weapons and more customization, but poor balancing and lack of cargo storage has killed pvp for me. :(

That generally is the case with PvP since SCBs hit.
Premium Beta was a glorious time for fun fights,
where piloting did matter most.
