Yeah i noticed that I have just asked for it to be reinstated. Here's hoping...

I know we have this discussion, I was just thinking it would be nice to have actual numbers.

Maybe i should set up a poll to see how many people want my poll re-instated[big grin]

+1 for instantaneous but high cost based on distance.

Agree waiting isn't a good mechanic, and the game needs credit sinks.
It's going to need to make ship transport to Jaques not really viable. Billion credits plus. Scale backwards from there.

so long as it cost a small fortune and a 24h cool down to move something like a cutter 500ly i dont mind

I can get on board with this, if there is not going to be a wait time, it should cost a lot of money, perhaps something like 75% of the sell price plus a set amount per LY. The cost would be the limiting factor, sure you could get it halfway across the galaxy, but it might break the bank, if you could even afford it at all. We'll have to see to be sure, since the pricing hasn't been balanced yet.

To the instant gratif...I mean transfer crowd: I've change my mind. By all means, keep the instant transfer. It opens up a lot of exploi...I mean opportunities.

I'm going to sit back and giggle when all the flak and screaming comes in about exploits later on...

I would say 1 second per lightyear.
Or even just pay lip service to the delivery.

However , transfer of ship at jaques should cost a fortune.

Immersion in games does not need to follow real life 100% but at least reference it.
The reason I am so over the top with immersion and elite is that it was sold to me by the dev vids as the most immersive game possible...
If this was in another game I would not mind , if they never said they wanted immersion I would have not minded.

Thats why I am fine with instant dock in X and not in elite. X never said they wanted to be realistic so they can get away with it.

Has the vision changed? maybe
Am I still the target audiance? maybe

Its not the worst thing ever , but 2.2 includes some wierd stuff so far.
Pilotless fighters that still have a human inside them (of course its WIP , but imagine if they keep it that was)
Instand transportation of ships across the galaxy (I can imagine the price will be very , very low)
CQC assets that look awesome (but... the devs said they will just spawn ambiant trafic and stuff because ''gameplay'')

Gameplay is core , but in a game like elite gameplay only has meaning if lore and logic is in sight

Let's face it...you won't even NEED a fuel scoop. One of the cooler aspects of this game for me has been making hard decisions about how to set up my ship(s), especially my FdL. This mechanic will be a game changer in a big (bad) way.

The more I think about, the less I like the idea. My needle has moved from "dislike" to the "detest" side of the dial in the 30 minutes.

Fdev needs to think very carefully about where they're going with this; if I personally wanted magic systems with absolutely 0% thought about modules and mechanics going into the equation, I'd be playing NMS. Also, if they persist in going in this direction, DB just needs to shut it about "science."

Fumaroles not good enough for you now? Honestly, I'm still wondering what all the fuss is about. There will be -a- cost to jumping ships around, enough that it won't be "at will", but likely not enough that it will mean ship jumping isn't the preserve of the billionaires club either. So hot drops become a thing, along with magic bag ships, big deal, we're getting rapid-fabrication fighters being dispensed "as ammunition" as it is, effectively this is a scaled up version of that. It does make a mockery of those "immersive" long haul runs because now you can just blap your Annaconda over with it's hot to trot combat fit once you've got into place using a speedy explorer rigged Asp but hey, thems the breaks.

People need to remember these forums aren't the be all and end all of Elite Dangerous, it's a fraction of a fraction here, and they've decided (for whatever reason) that this makes sense, so, work with them to make it palatable, I doubt we'll see wait timers enforced because that would mean some kind of "Stateful" system which needs server resources (bad) or is exploitable by the client (very bad), so the only option to mess with is cost. That'll get balanced in the beta.

I am actually cool with the idea of lots (lots) of ships getting transferred out to Jacques (or anywhere). They will get used, blasted, parted, sold, etc., and play into the one day availability of those same hulls stripped back to stock in a future shipyard out there. Same with the modules. They add to the conceptual ship/parts supply population and future availability in the area.

But I feel compelled that this needs to happen under real time and cost economics, not instant. Even with a 100% real time delivery window... my goodness it will still happen in what feels like a flash.

Poll added to this thread.

Not nit picking, but technically, I think it should have been a more structured poll:

1. Do you want ship transfer? (Yes/No)
2. Do you want module transfer? (Yes/No)
3. If ship transfer is implemented, should that include cargo? (Yes/No)
4. If ship transfer is implemented, how much time would you like it to take? (Multi choice from 'instant' to 'as long as it would take on average in real time based on jump capabilities')
5. If module transfer is implemented, how much time would you like it to take? (Multi choice from 'instant' to 'as long as it would take on average in real time based on jump capabilities')

Shame this board doesn't do Likert scales. ;)

If polls allowed yes/no answers and quantitative answers to single poll questions - maybe.

As to transfer with cargo - we cannot store ships with cargo....

Instant delivery of ships/modules is the only thing in the ocean of new stuff presented at gamescom that I didn't quite like.
I fear that it'll be too gamey and will break part of the immersion.
And immersion, at least for me, is everything.

Currently. But witness the calls for cargo storage for engineers commodities from mission rewards. We're already at the thin end of the wedge, and I was curious as to how many people would go the whole hog regarding gamebreaking. ;) *Edit* I'm assuming the simplest way for Frontier to implement commodities storage, if at all, would be to just tie it to a ship's cargo.

It's not about real life, it's about one activity in ED that takes a player a certain period of time and that is done instantly by another game object; in this case the travel time of a ship, one ship a player flies and another that the player does not fly.

...
Gameplay is in the eye of the beholder: it is also in the eye of the developer who wants to sell their game.
I would love to know what facts, evidence (market research?) etc. came to bear on FD to make this decision.

Transfer of ships with cargo in them would completely destroy piracy.

This is a non-issue. People who will do any of that already do that. You think I leave my fuel scoop, fuel tank and FSD in there when I enter a RES? No, I remove and downsize it all. Then I put it back when I have to move about, just to limit the inconvenience a bit. People should tone the pavlov-response down a bit when something is proposed without knowing how it will be implemented. In this case, how much it'll cost.

Indeed. And I hope they are sensible enough to realise that. But given '3D Fighterprintergate' yesterday, and 'SpaceMagic™' today (plus the general direction since 1.0 dropped TBH) I'm not so sure anymore.
